Chapter 107: Amros
"...what do you want to do..." There was suspicion in Rith's voice now.
Vacuse shrugged. "...you said you need to measure my powers so you can know where to accurately start my training, right..."
"...I did say that..." Rith grudgingly agreed. "...you brat... what are you planning?..."
Vacuse merely shrugged as he turned to Captain Mera. "Captain, it seems I need to test my new level of strength. I need to fight the Syncer Soullinked of the Dragon Guards."
She could only stare at him in surprise. She expected a lot of things from him, but definitely not that he would demand to fight members of the Guards.
Her face tightened as she looked at the Dragon heir. She was starting to realize that the mission was not something she should have accepted.
But given that she could not technically refuse any missions from the Dragon Lord, she tried not to dwell on it.
She cleared her throat while all the members of the Dragon Guards stared at her. Those in the Syncer Soullinked stage gave her horrified looks.
She frowned. "My Lord. Dragon Guards in the Syncer Soullinked are not the real deal, just like the new Dawn in the Initiate Boundling. They are more like apprentices in training. The real elite start from the Awakened Harmonic, the third stage.
"Besides, we all felt the pressure and power you gave off. It would be useless for them to fight you." She said the last bit flatly.
Vacuse grunted as he stared at her, and then he turned to stare at those in the same stage as him with a critical, judging look. He had to admit that the aura they gave off was nothing he could not deal with.
But he still was not satisfied.
"Then, I'll fight someone from the Awakened Harmonic."
Immediately, a dangerous look entered the eyes of those at such a stage. They looked eager to crush the arrogant Dragon heir, but at the same time, they stood at attention respectfully.
Captain Mera paused, a slight frown on her face.
The fact that she did not immediately dismiss him made Vacuse smile. "Don't want to take my measures since you're my guard and all, so you can know the accurate time, how, and from what to guard me?"
She was swayed. But in truth, she was also interested in the Dragon heir and the SSS that was supposed to save the Vorrakyn family.
So she nodded curtly. Her eyes narrowed as they glanced over her men. "Amros."
Amros was a man in his thirties with clean-shaven hair. His eyes were sharp, and he held a thin sword in his hand. He bowed to the Captain, then faced Vacuse, giving him a much lower bow. "My Lord."
Immediately, everyone gave them space, leaving only them alone in the middle of the clearing.
"Be careful, Amros. Do not hurt him too badly. This is, after all, the Dragon heir, and he is still in the second stage. Control your strength!" Captain Mera warned.
Amros nodded solemnly. He drew a sword from his side. "I am Amros. Rank B beast, Pathway of the Ironside. Please do not forget, my lord, that I am in the third stage, and thus, I can perform the half shift."
Vacuse nodded, his face serious. "...do you have any tricks, Rith, or should I just use my fists like the barbarians..."
Rith snorted coldly. "...we'll see... I give up on trying to teach you finesse... we'll have to focus more on simple technique, and maybe we can save what's left of your foundation..."
Vacuse smiled at Amros. "Thank you for the warning."
Amros shrugged. There was now a gleam in his eyes. "My pathway grants me the ability to manipulate metal. Unfortunately, the pathway ends at Rank A beasts. We would have been truly powerful."
Vacuse tilted his head. "Who has the pathway?"
It was not one he was familiar with. Besides, there are usually pathways with the same power affinity, like a fire dragon and the phoenix.
The thing is, there is usually something unique about different pathways. What a fire dragon can do, a phoenix could not, and the reverse is the case.
"The pathway belongs to the Vorrakyn. It is one of the other pathways that your family has, my lord."
Vacuse blinked and nodded. "Right."
Amros raised his sword. The sword appeared dull, but there was a silver gleam to it that Vacuse did not trust at all.
Vacuse narrowed his eyes and released his aura. The air around him stilled, and his eyes flashed with a purple glow. Those who were below his stage but looked into his eyes trembled as a shiver passed through them.
Dominance.
He was exuding the aura of a beast.
"I'll try to hold back my lo...!"
Vacuse shot forward. His figure left strings of afterimages behind as he crossed the distance as if it was not there.
Amros's eyes widened. This is a second stage?
The pressure that Vacuse carried with him was also getting stronger, as if his power was a volcano erupting.
Amros slashed.
A silver arc shot forward to meet Vacuse with the threatening glow of cutting down everything in its path.
Vacuse did not slow down at all as he simply pointed a finger. Dark energy exploded from his finger, threads of void that snapped like living tentacles.
The silver energy was instantly cut into shreds, and he entered Amros's space without issue.
Amros's expression turned grim instantly.
His sword flashed with a glow and then crumbled into melting iron that flowed against his body. Within a blink, his whole body was enclosed in an iron suit.
Bam!
Vacuse's body slammed into him. The ground shook and cracked, and a crater formed as his opponent was pushed back.
Amros was actually pushed back.
The thought shocked everyone watching.
The gap between his stage was not something that could be bridged so easily, more so as one continued to advance. Unless you had some Heaven-defying artifact or relic from the old.
But right there, they were all witnessing something that most would not be able to see in their entire life.
