The SSS Legendary Dragon Chose Me On Rebirth

Chapter 106: Control

Vacuse did as he was told quickly, not because he liked listening to Rith, but because he heard an unfamiliar urgency in his voice that made him quickly take out energy potions from his ring and begin to drink them.

And almost immediately, his soul space began to hungrily suck in the energy. It was as if his body was starving.

In the blink of an eye, and under the surprised eyes of everyone, he had drunk up to twenty bottles, and he was only just starting.

"Well... someone must be really starving," Kagerou said, shaken out of his terrified state.

After he drank the potions, his soul space had the energy it needed, and his stomach growled with hunger.

"I don't like this," Rith said.

The Captain ordered her men to begin roasting meat for Vacuse, while water was provided and a cloth-parted area for privacy. The second thing Vacuse noticed was how badly he stank, so he ordered a wash.

"What don't you like?" Vacuse thought back.

"I thought you were going to just reach the peak of Initiate Boundling, but you actually broke through to Syncer Soullinked."

Vacuse shuddered as he remembered the pain he just passed through. If he had known that he would break through and that the process would involve that much pain, then he might not have tried it in the first place.

But again, he had to admit that it was worth it.

He could feel the power in him, far more than it was possible in the Initiate Boundling. What's more, he felt as if he could touch the real edge of the Void Dragon's power. As if he could communicate with the real body despite the distance between them.

"Don't!" Rith shouted. "Don't contact the real body. You should know that your situation is different from all the other Soulbearers. You are SSS!"

Vacuse snorted and let the connection fizzle out.

For normal Soulbearers, it was at the Syncer Soullinked stage that they would begin to truly understand their beast and then begin building and exploring powers individually.

Indeed, Vacuse's case was different.

He quickly washed and changed into a new set of red and black robes. "Why do you say you don't like that I broke through?"

"Because the Initiate Boundling was meant to build up to Syncer Soullinked. We have not even finished exploring the power of the Initiate Boundling, the foundation that was meant to build up the Void power."

Vacuse paused and blinked as he realized that it was the truth. He went from Initiate Boundling to Syncer Soullinked in a matter of months.

Something that should take five or so years. Or never.

He narrowed his eyes. "Is it because I'm an SSS Soulbearer?"

Rith didn't answer immediately.

Everyone in the camp already knew that Vacuse used to zone out like that. It was something that was peculiar to those who communicate with their beast, but Vacuse tended to do it more often than others.

They served him meat, and he dug in without hesitation.

Rith's voice was filled with hesitation when he answered. "I can't say. This is the first time I'm having a Soulbearer."

"Wait... you can have more than one Soulbearer?" Vacuse stopped eating.

Come to think of it, where do the Beasts go after their Soulbearers die? Back to the Pathway Realm? Vacuse had never given it serious thought before.

Rith snorted and didn't answer. "Anyway, this is the first time for me as well. And we haven't really had the time to measure your strength or sit down to train as we should."

A gleam appeared in Vacuse's eyes. "Well, we'll come to that later. But about my powers. Are you saying my powers will become unstable now that I didn't properly build a foundation?"

Rith sighed. "I'm just trying to teach you like the way I was taught. I don't know either, but that was how I was taught... so..."

Vacuse remembered that he said Rith was a really terrible teacher. Now he was adding more. He's the absolutely most terribly useless teacher.

And he was all Vacuse had.

As if Rith could sense what he was thinking, he said in a sullen tone, "Create Flicker Lance above us."

Vacuse raised his grease-covered hand and waved it overhead. Immediately, winds howled and dark energy ripped into existence above him, forming into countless Void needles that looked like rain.

There was so much of it that it blocked the sunlight from reaching the ground below. What was more, each Flicker Lance radiated an intense energy that bore down on everyone with pressure.

Those in the Initiate Boundling flinched and cowered, their eyes shining with fear as they trembled. Those in the Syncer Soullinked, the same rank as Vacuse, all looked up with grim expressions as if a dagger was held to their throats.

Even Vacuse himself was surprised. Was he always this powerful? Just a few days ago, his SSS rank felt almost too weak to him. But now...

"How many Initiate Boundling can I kill with this single attack?"

Everyone shuddered at the excitement of his tone, but before Rith could answer, Vacuse's eyes suddenly narrowed, and he shot up to his feet. He raised his hand and pushed upward as if he was sending something away.

The next instant, the Flicker Lances were sent away just as they exploded.

Boom!

Rippling shockwaves slammed down like hammers. Dust bellowed up. Trees cracked and tore away. All the New Dawn members were sent sprawling, together with the majority of the Orcs, including Lord Ragna.

Vacuse frowned.

His control over his energy seemed to have gotten worse. It seemed the amount of power contained within was too much. After a long time had passed, in which everyone stared at him in shock, he said, "Well, I should have some use for this as well."

"Foolish brat! This lack of control is going to affect you in the future. When you'll need to handle more Void energy, you'll just end up exploding!"

Vacuse smiled. "We'll cross that when we get there. But for now, what do you say about measuring my powers?"
