The Sorcerers

Chapter 6 : Ashes of Memories

Chapter 6

The chapter begins with a flashback — 10 years ago

On a quiet summer night, the city was brimming with life, as the glowing streetlights cast shadows on the bustling alleys. Children's laughter echoed in the air, while Sbyam (20 years old) walked alongside Resa (19 years old). Each held an ice cream cone that was slowly melting, strolling peacefully without anything to disturb their happiness.

Resa looked at Sbyam with a joyful smile and said, "It’s such a beautiful day!"

He looked at her with a questioning gaze and replied with a hint of sarcasm, "What's so special about today?"

Resa chuckled softly, leaned her head on his shoulder, and whispered, "Because I'm with you!"

They continued wandering through the city streets, lost in unforgettable moments amid the laughter and noise of life, as if time itself had stopped just for them.

---

The next day

Sbyam donned his official sorcerer's uniform and put on his glasses, standing before a massive Class-A monster, its enormous body blocking out the sunlight. With a confident smile, Sbyam spoke to the beast, "Come at me!"

The monster charged at him with incredible speed, aiming a powerful punch straight at him. But Sbyam, with graceful agility, vanished before the blow could land. He reappeared behind the monster and delivered a powerful strike to its back, sending it flying through the air and crashing down with a heavy thud. Its claws tore into the ground, leaving deep grooves, but it managed to rise, glaring angrily at Sbyam.

Sbyam smirked calmly and said with a mocking tone, "My friend Berylo isn’t here today! Otherwise, we'd have more fun together."

The monster lunged at Sbyam again, but he remained still, extending his hand forward confidently. A small spark began to form between his fingers. With a swift snap, he sent a tiny ball of sparks flying toward the beast.

The monster, thinking the spark was harmless, continued its charge. However, the spark pierced through its belly like an arrow, lingering for a moment before exploding with devastating force.

The monster's remains scattered into the air, and its blood rained down, soaking the ground in crimson. Sbyam smiled quietly and walked away as if what had just happened was an ordinary part of his day.

Present Day — 10 Years Later

Near the café, Sbyam walked slowly, carrying Resa's lifeless body in his arms. His head was bowed, and his eyes were empty. Cameras captured every moment, while fear etched itself onto the faces of reporters and passersby. Sbyam continued his silent walk, indifferent to the world around him, overcome by grief. The moon shone down, casting a mournful glow over the tragic scene.

---

In the Forest Home (Suero's Family Home)

Salma stood by the window, staring at the moonlight with eyes filled with deep thought. Behind her, Rashid approached and asked softly, "What's wrong?"

Without shifting her gaze, she replied quietly, "Nothing."

Rashid raised an eyebrow, then walked over to the bed and lay down, leaving his wife immersed in her silence.

---

At the School of Magic

Suero was watching the news on TV, his face pale and eyes wide with shock. The remote control slipped from his hand onto the floor as he whispered to himself, "Teacher Sbyam...!"

He rushed out of his room and sprinted across the school grounds, not looking back, breathing heavily, with only one thought running through his mind: "Are you okay, Teacher?"

Meanwhile, Morio was sipping coffee in his pajamas. He noticed Suero running outside from his window and muttered to himself, "What’s gotten into him? This is bedtime!"

Then he closed his door and went back to sleep.

---

At Resa's House

Sbyam stopped in front of Resa's mother’s house and knocked quietly. When she opened the door and saw her daughter’s lifeless body in his arms, her face turned pale, and she fell to her knees, gasping, "What?!"

Sbyam, with a hoarse voice and his head bowed, said, "I’m sorry... I couldn’t protect her."

The mother broke into tears, clutching her daughter’s body and screaming, "She’s... dead... noooooo!"

She held Resa's body tightly as Sbyam's tears fell silently. Whispering to himself, he turned away from the heart-wrenching scene, saying, "I'm sorry, Resa... I hope you can forgive me."

---

The Next Day — Inside the School of Magic

The team members stood inside the school, watching Sbyam with profound sadness. Morio asked him quietly, "Hey... are you alright?"

Sbyam didn’t respond; instead, he entered his room and closed the door behind him.

Baysal spoke with sorrow, "He’s lost his beloved."

Kamio added mournfully, "He was always there for us, but we weren’t there for him."

Everyone remained silent, while Morio continued to stare at Sbyam's door.

---

In the Forest Home

Salma packed her bag, having decided to leave. She muttered to herself, "I’ll ask him... why did he do all this? My son Sbaylo... why did he try to kill her?"

She got into a taxi, closing the door behind her as she left without looking back.

---

Inside Sbyam’s Room

Sbyam sat on his bed, holding a framed picture of him and Berylo. His eyes were fixed on the photo, a faint smile crossing his face, burdened by memories.

He whispered as if speaking to his friend in the picture, "If you were here... you’d support me. I’m sure of it... I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you."

The smile gradually faded, replaced by a deep sadness. He murmured to himself, "They said I was the strongest... but... is strength alone enough?"

Suddenly, he heard a soft knock at the door. Raising his calm voice, he said, "Come in."

The door opened slowly, and Morio entered quietly, closing the door behind him. He sat beside Sbyam on the bed, looking at him for a long moment before speaking with regret in his voice, "I’m sorry... I couldn’t be there for you."

Sbyam gave a sad smile as if understanding his apology. He replied, but in a low voice, "What could you have done? Even if you’d known about the plan to kill her..."

Morio remained silent for a moment, then said sincerely, "You’ve always been our support, Sbyam."

Sbyam nodded slowly, as if his words carried a heavy weight. Then he whispered decisively, as though reminding himself before telling Morio, "That’s my purpose... I won’t leave my students halfway."

The two remained silent for a while, as if his last words filled the room with an unbearable weight. Sbyam continued to stare at the photo in his hands, while Morio looked at him with understanding, though unable to offer any true comfort.

---

Suddenly, Sbyam and Morio heard a loud explosion outside.

Morio jumped up quickly, asking, "What happened?"

They leapt out of the window, flying toward the source of the explosion at top speed, with the rest of the team following close behind.

In the heart of the city, a thick column of black smoke rose. Sbyam asked anxiously, "Where’s Suero?"

Morio replied in confusion, "I don’t know!"

Sbyam’s anger flared as he dashed toward the scene at full speed.

---

When he arrived, he saw Suero standing motionless in front of a burning taxi. His eyes were wide with shock as he muttered hoarsely, "Mother...?"

Flames consume

d the car, as people gathered around it in panic. Suero remained frozen in place, unable to comprehend what was happening.

The chapter ends.
