The Seventh Base

The Douglas incident created an uproar, with major media in the Lucas Star Capital covering the story one after another.

Under pressure, the Lucas Star Federation Government held a press conference, where the Minister of Defense Field publicly apologized for not disciplining his offspring properly and promised compensation to the families of the deceased. He did not seek the families' forgiveness, stating that Douglas would be judged fairly by Lucas Star law and that he would not be involved.

This was a huge scandal, but Lucas Star didn't have a system of collective responsibility; Douglas's actions were considered personal. Although Field was affected, his public apology and promises made somewhat placated public anger, and the government did not dismiss him.

As for Douglas, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The two girls were not directly killed by him; rather, he coerced them into suicide, which was not sufficient for a death penalty.

Though the public was still dissatisfied with the outcome, the government's proactive response meant the incident was, for the moment, over.

But Douglas's life was clearly over now; even if he had a good life in prison, he could never appear in front of the world again—unless he was transferred to live on another planet.

After the incident concluded, within an office, Field stood motionless by the window, looking out, his heart icy cold.

No matter how foolish Douglas might be, he was still his son—now, ruined.

"Xu Mo, Elizabeth." Two names surfaced in Field's mind, and he took note of them.

"Mr. Field." Someone called from outside, and Field left his office and boarded a Flying Device. Moments later, Field arrived at the location where Douglas was imprisoned.

"Dad." Douglas called out when he saw Field, his face still bruised and his body wounded.

"Slap..." Field slapped Douglas across the face. Douglas hung his head, clenching his fists, feeling only humiliation.

"Why did you confess?" Field asked in a deep voice. As long as Douglas himself didn't talk, even if he was responsible for the deaths, no one would know the truth. Without interrogating him under duress and before evidence surfaced, it was impossible to question the son of the Ministry of Defense.

"Xu Mo seemed to specialize in spiritual power oppression; at that time, I think I lost my rationality." Douglas's fists trembled slightly. He obviously knew he shouldn't have spoken. In that situation, he even considered that Xu Mo might have invited him with a recording device, so he did not respond at all until Xu Mo provoked him, which is when he took action.

What happened after that was beyond his control.

"Spiritual power?" Field's eyes were cold: "Is your will that weak?"

Douglas bowed his head; he had nothing to say.

Everything was set in stone; as soon as the video went viral, the outcome was decided. No one could change it. If Douglas continued to deny it, claiming that Xu Mo forced him to confess, it would lead to greater public outcry. The anger of the people could not be contained, and even Field would be implicated, accused of abusing his power to defend Douglas and deny the crime that had become a fact.

"Stay in prison for a while. After the uproar dies down, I'll find a way to transfer you elsewhere. Then, with plastic surgery and a new identity, you'll enter the military," Field said.

"Yes." Douglas nodded, aware that from now on, Douglas would cease to exist.

The level of technology on Lucas Star was certainly enough to change his face; he would reappear with a new one.

That meant, in a way, his former self was dead.

Killed by Xu Mo.

Hate filled Douglas's eyes.

"Dad, I want to kill Xu Mo." Douglas said coldly.

Field looked at him indifferently and said, "Xu Mo is Elizabeth's man, the Princess Guard who appeared when Nilo went to Lucas University."

Douglas was stunned by Field's words, turning pale; so that was it.

He had been played like a fiddle.

Elizabeth!

However, 'Douglas' would vanish, and it seemed unlikely that he would get a chance at Elizabeth, unless she lost in a power struggle with Charlie and became a criminal.

"Reflect on this." Field said coldly, then turned and left.

His eyes also held a hint of murderous intent.

Back on the Flying Device, it took off towards the Lucas Star Federation Government Building. At that moment, someone from behind spoke up, "Minister Field, the Camp Star Embassy wants to contact you."

"Ask them what it is." Field did not take the Communicator, responding coldly, as he was not in the mood.

"I asked, they said it's about Young Master Douglas." The person behind him replied, Field frowned, and then reached out. The other person handed the Communicator to Field.

"Minister Field, this is Steve from the Camp Star Embassy. I would like to report some information to you," the voice came through the Communicator.

"Speak." Field responded.

"I've seen the news not long ago, about the incident between Young Master Douglas and Xu Mo. Regarding Xu Mo, we know quite a bit. He is from Byron Star," Steve seemed concerned that Field might not know about Xu Mo, hence he deliberately reported in.

The enemy of an enemy is a friend.

They had not expected Xu Mo to have such an irreconcilable conflict with the son of the Minister of Defense of Lucas Star, Douglas.

Considering this, Field, the Minister of Defense of Lucas Star, could become a powerful ally for them. Field had a significant influence within the military on Lucas Star, a heavyweight, and if they could form an alliance with him, the odds of killing Xu Mo would be much higher.
