Chapter 2. (9)
He didn’t even notice as an hour later, his father arrived at the front of the Hall and began his speech. At some point Turyn heard his name being called. He first stood up and after confirming that this was the case, he headed towards the front of the Hall where his father was standing beside his mother and two other familiar figures, a girl with beautiful blue eyes and lovely long brown hair which was currently loose with some of its parts missing from having being burnt off, and a tall light skinned boy with large muscular arms, a handsome face and short blonde hair. They were both Jenna Belhild and Gunnar Worgenston respectively. The one’s who placed 3rd and 2nd place in the competition.
Jenna and Gunnar seemed were a bit shocked by Turyn’s current appearance but other than raising their brows in question, they did not say anything at the moment.
Turyn stood beside Jenna as his father continued,
“The reason I have called these three here is in order to congratulate them on their first dragon hunt. They are students who have just recently graduated from their training program just a few days ago and yet have already accomplished an incredible feat of killing a dragon all on their own.”
“Jenna here has managed to hunt a dragon we are all familiar with. Known for its tough hide and the ability to spit out smouldering hot magma.”
“The Gronckle!”
He gestured towards the back to the entrance of the hall where four men dragged a cart containing a large bulky dragon with a blue-greenish bumpy and rough hide, small wings and a large round tail that looked like two bludgeons stuck together. Its eyes were currently wide-open revealing two large yellow lifeless eyes with pupils shaped like thin slits. The dragon had a normal iron spear going through its upper jaw and out the top of its head clearly explaining how it died.
“Well done, Jenna, you have made the Belhild family and the entire village proud. You are now considered a full-fledged Viking before both men and gods alike.” Congratulated Chief Bjorn to a happy Jenna who wore a small smile on her face.
“Next, we have Gunnar who hunted a dragon known for its incredible speed, sharp spines on its tail and incredible hearing and smell. It also possesses a fiery breath capable of melting stone and metal in a matter of seconds.”
“The Deadly Nadder!”
Another two pairs of Vikings dragged in another cart containing a much larger dragon with large, winged forelimbs with large spikes crowning its head and even more spikes lining its tail making it look extremely intimidating. It currently had a large see-through ballista hole running through its stomach which hung low within the regions of its large underbelly. It also possessed a large, curved horn on the front of its head built specifically for ramming purposes.
“Well done, Gunnar, you have also made the Worgenston family and the entire village proud. You are now too considered a full-fledged Viking before both men and gods alike.” Congratulated Chief Bjorn. Gunnar too was also smiling from happiness and pride with his chest raised high.
“Finally, we have the dragon that my own son hunted. A dragon that is considered even more dangerous than the deadly Nadder with a large, long snout filled with large sharp teeth, a long body lined with tough scales, large, winged forelimbs. It possesses a red hot fiery breath capable of easily turning a man to ash and they also possess the ability to light themselves on fire making close combat with them even more difficult. This dragon is known for being incredibly aggressive, stubborn and dangerous even among dragons.”
“I give you the Monstrous Nightmare”
This time it was six people dragging a large flat cart on which lay the corpse of a beast twice the length of the deadly Nadder with wider wings and two long horns sprouting from its back. Its sheer size was overwhelming as while everyone had been awed by the Gronckle and the Deadly Nadder, they couldn’t help but be shocked by the dragon they were currently. There were currently no large holes on its body indicating that it wasn’t shot down like the Nadder hence some villagers couldn’t help but wonder how Turyn killed a dragon of this size alone.
It was only when they focused on its neck that they noticed the large cut on the left side of its neck that went all the way to the bone. The more experienced warriors among them immediately deduced that it was a cut made by a battle axe which was surprising and astonishing as the Monstrous Nightmare was not a creature people dared to engage with in close combat as they possessed the ability to alight their entire bodies aflame with a heat hot enough to melt iron let alone the Viking foolish enough to attack it with a close-range weapon. Nonetheless Turyn had done so with an axe no less, truly incredible!!
“Well done my son, you too have made the Lothbrok family, the entire village and myself proud. You are too now considered a full-fledged Viking before both men and gods alike.” Congratulated Chief Bjorn as he patted Turyn’s shoulder affectionately. Turyn too was happy to have made his father proud as he had a wide smile on his face as he faced the rest of the villagers in the Great Hall.
Claps and cheers began to sound as the three new young true Vikings stood at the front of the Hall together side by side as they looked at everyone with happy smiles. They eventually descended from the stage heading separately towards their previous sitting areas.
Chief Bjorn then mentioned the names of the deceased who would all be buried tomorrow among a few other things before dismissing everyone to go get some rest.
It had truly been an exhausting night for everyone.
