Chapter 22: Chapter 21: Luoying Town
TN:I don't have enough brain cells to think better name for the town
------------------------------------------------
Amidst the mountains and forests, Chihiro and her team moved at a leisurely pace.
Rather than looking like bodyguards on a mission, they resembled a group of travelers enjoying a hike.
The only one missing from the team was Sakiya.
At that moment, she was still off wandering on her own.
She darted through the trees, exploring here and there, but ultimately returned to the group with a bored expression.
After all, there wasn't much to see along this route—just endless rows of trees.
Sakiya had gone ahead for reconnaissance, a task she had insisted on taking.
Originally, Chihiro was supposed to do it herself, but Sakiya had made her case.
"If we need to scout for enemies in the shadows, then naturally, the Eye of Death is indispensable!"
That dramatic declaration had earned her the privilege of running ahead.
Of course, in the end, she found nothing.
With a sigh, Sakiya leapt back into formation, a slightly dejected look on her face.
Ochiaisuke, their guide, chuckled as he watched her return.
"Haha, didn't find anything, did you?" he teased.
"This area is full of dense forests, so it's easy to stay hidden. Bandits rarely block roads around here, and overall, there's not much danger."
Chihiro nodded in agreement.
"The town we're headed to—Luoying Town—is near the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Grass. It's a remote place but generally peaceful. This route is well-hidden, so we shouldn't encounter any major threats."
Hearing this, Sakiya's interest visibly waned.
On the other hand, Tsuchiya Tsukigami and Sakuragi looked relieved.
Chihiro glanced at the three young shinobi, smiling at their reactions.
"And remember, C-rank missions usually don't involve enemy shinobi… unless—"
She suddenly turned toward Ochiaisuke with a knowing look.
Ochiaisuke stiffened under her gaze, then quickly shook his head.
"No, no, no! I haven't done anything to provoke ninja! There's no reason we'd get involved with them on this mission."
Chihiro smirked.
"I never said you did. Why so nervous?"
"I…uh…"
Ochiaisuke opened his mouth but quickly realized that the more he spoke, the worse it sounded. In the end, he chose silence.
At that moment, Chihiro's expression shifted.
Her sharp eyes narrowed, and without hesitation, she pulled out a kunai and hurled it toward a nearby bush.
Sakuragi and Tsuchiya immediately went on high alert, reaching for their weapons.
Sakiya's eyes, however, lit up with excitement. She didn't move.
The moment the kunai struck the bush, a deep, guttural roar echoed through the trees.
A massive bear emerged from the foliage, standing on its hind legs.
The kunai Chihiro had thrown was now lodged in its shoulder.
Sakiya's eyes widened in awe.
"It's an Earth Beast!" she exclaimed.
Chihiro's face twitched.
Ignoring Sakiya's dramatic outburst, she drew her blade and spoke calmly.
"Tsukigami! Sakuragi! Protect Mr. Ochiaisuke!"
"Yes!" the two replied in unison.
"Sakiya, you—wait, hey!"
Before Chihiro could finish, Sakiya had already dashed forward.
"Earth Beast! The Eye of Death will be your doom! Prepare to fall in my first battle of the Infinite Dimension!"
With reckless enthusiasm, she charged at the giant bear.
Roaring in anger, the bear raised its massive paw and swung at the incoming shinobi.
"Eye of Death! Declaration of Doom!" Sakiya shouted.
A series of glowing circles unfolded in front of her, one after another.
WHAM!
The bear's paw crashed right through the glowing symbols—
—And sent Sakiya flying.
In the blink of an eye, Sakiya vanished—leaving behind a log in her place.
Chihiro and the others, watching from a distance, could only sigh.
"All those flashy effects… just for a simple Substitution Jutsu?"
And then—
They turned their gaze toward the log.
The surface was charred from the impact, but what stood out the most was the pink ribbon tied neatly around it, complete with a little bow.
Chihiro's eye twitched.
"Why… why would you tie a bow on a substitution log?!"
Meanwhile, the massive bear stood momentarily stunned. But as soon as it realized its target had vanished, frustration boiled over. It let out a furious roar, thrashing its paws wildly, searching for its missing prey.
The beast may not have been able to locate Sakiya, but the others could see her position clearly.
She had crept behind the bear, moving low to the ground.
Silently, she drew a kunai from her pouch.
Standing behind the towering creature, she barely reached half its height.
She raised the kunai, hesitating, carefully evaluating where to strike.
Tsuchiya and Sakuragi, watching from the sidelines, exchanged glances.
Sakiya's exaggerated gestures, her tiny frame in comparison to the beast—it was… oddly comedic.
Chihiro, unable to take it anymore, sighed.
With a swift motion, she unsheathed her sword and dashed forward.
A single strike.
The bear collapsed instantly.
Sakiya, still mid-deliberation over where to stab, blinked in surprise as her "Earth Beast" crumpled before her.
Then, realization hit.
"My mighty Earth Beast… How dare you—"
Before she could finish, Chihiro deftly unwrapped a piece of candy and stuffed it into Sakiya's mouth in one quick motion.
Sakiya froze.
The sweet taste melted on her tongue, her expression momentarily blank.
Then—
She spat it out, shooting Chihiro a fierce glare.
Or at least, she tried.
Within seconds, her eyes flicked to the candy in her hand. She hesitated. Licked her lips.
Then, without a word, she popped it back into her mouth and strolled back to the group as if nothing had happened.
Sakuragi and Tsuchiya watched the scene unfold, utterly speechless.
And then—
Both of them turned to Chihiro with expectant eyes.
Chihiro immediately understood what they wanted.
She smirked, curling a finger in a "come closer" gesture.
Excited, the two stepped forward eagerly.
Chihiro leaned in as if to whisper a secret.
"I'm not giving you any."
Then she walked off with a smug smile.
Sakuragi and Tsuchiya stood frozen, stunned like a pair of stone statues.
—
With the bear incident behind them, the journey continued without further danger.
As Chihiro had predicted, this route was safe.
After several days of travel, they finally arrived at Luoying Town.
The town's location was truly remarkable—nestled in a valley, surrounded by towering mountains.
After passing through a desolate forest, they reached the edge of the valley, and suddenly, it was as if the clouds had parted.
A vibrant, bustling town stretched out before them.
The sharp contrast between the lifeless woods and the town's prosperity left Sakiya and the others momentarily awestruck.
Ochiaisuke surveyed the scene with a satisfied expression, a hint of pride in his eyes.
"Luoying Town~ Three years ago, it was just a forgotten village. Peaceful, yes, but also terribly poor. But thanks to our caravan, the town has flourished into what you see now."
Sakuragi adjusted his glasses, the lenses flashing with interest.
Tsuchiya looked at Ochiaisuke with admiration.
"So you were the driving force behind this town's revival? That's incredible, Mr. Ochiaisuke!"
Ochiaisuke chuckled, shaking his head.
"No, no. The real credit goes to Lord Tokumoto Kyotoshi. He's the one with the vision and leadership. We're just small players in the grand scheme of things."
Tsuchiya's eyes lit up.
"Then I'd love to meet Lord Tokumoto Kyotoshi in person!"
Meanwhile, Sakiya gazed at the hidden town with awe, her eyes sparkling.
"A convergence of energy… This is a rare treasure in the infinite dimension!"
Chihiro raised an eyebrow, then casually ruffled Sakiya's hair.
"Then let's go explore this 'treasure' of yours."
Annoyed, Sakiya swatted Chihiro's hand away, baring her small fangs.
"Stop messing with my hair!"
Chihiro smirked, pulling out another piece of candy.
Sakiya hesitated.
Her eyes darted between Chihiro and the candy.
After a long pause, she let out a small huff, snatched the treat, and unwrapped it.
The moment the sweetness spread in her mouth, her expression softened.
Chihiro took the opportunity to sneakily pat her head once more before they stepped into Luoying Town together.
