Chapter 16: Chapter 15: Graduation assessment
Konoha was a peaceful and loving village—at least for its civilians.
But that peace would soon be disrupted with Sakiya Kihana and her classmates' graduation.
The world of ninjas was one of constant battles and bloodshed.
As the protagonists of this story grew, so too would the dangers they faced. Graduation marked the end of ordinary days and the beginning of real, life-threatening missions.
Sakiya stood in front of her mirror, carefully tying a small red bracelet around her wrist.
It was a gift from her mother, meant to bring her luck on her journey as a ninja. She traced the knots with her fingers, a soft smile forming on her lips.
It almost felt like she could still feel her mother's warm touch.
"Don't worry, Mom. I'll make it home safely."
She shifted her gaze to her reflection, her left eye shimmering like a starry sky. The power within it allowed her to see the lines of death, the weak points of any object or living being.
But controlling it at will?
That was still beyond her.
With a deep breath, she covered her left eye with a blindfold and grinned at her reflection.
"Graduation exam! I'm going to make this look good!"
—
Sakiya arrived at the classroom earlier than usual that morning.
To her surprise, she wasn't the only one.
Ino was already there. So was Hinata Hyuga.
Even Naruto Uzumaki had beaten her to class.
Now that was unexpected.
It didn't take long for her to figure out why.
Naruto was probably hoping to sweet-talk the teachers into letting him pass.
After all, the theoretical exams were already over, and Naruto had barely scraped by.
To be fair, many students had struggled with the written test. Ninja training prioritized combat, not book smarts.
Iruka-sensei understood that. He was lenient with the theory exam, but the practical test was a different story. If a student couldn't perform even the basic Three Basic Jutsu, how could they possibly survive in the field?
That was why Naruto was in trouble. He sucked at transformation and cloning.
No amount of pleading was going to change that.
The moment Naruto spotted Sakiya, his face lit up.
"SAKIYA-CHAN!"
Sakiya walked past him without a word.
Naruto's grin froze, his body turning stiff like a stone statue.
She took a seat next to Ino, ignoring the boy completely.
Ino, curious about Sakiya's unusual punctuality, raised an eyebrow. Usually, this girl barely made it to class on time.
Could it be…?
Was Sakiya Kihana actually nervous?
Sakiya, keeping a composed expression, sat straight in her chair.
Without even turning her head, she muttered in a deep voice,
"The successor of the Dark Emperor… Ino! You truly are my lifelong rival. You have awakened from the void before me, one step ahead."
Ino twitched.
Did she just say "void"?
Was this girl calling her an early riser?
A dark aura formed around Ino as she casually placed a hand on Sakiya's shoulder.
"Sakiya…"
Her voice dropped into an eerie whisper.
"Don't test me."
She suddenly squeezed Sakiya's shoulder.
Sakiya shivered.
"Hmph… The Eye of Death will never yield…!"
Ino applied a little more pressure.
"Oh?"
Sakiya felt a dark, suffocating presence. She gulped.
At that moment, Naruto—completely unaware of the tension—decided to step in.
"Ino, don't bully Sakiya-chan!"
Bad move.
Ino turned her glowing red eyes on him.
Naruto instantly regretted opening his mouth.
"Hehehe… Naruto~" Ino purred darkly. "This is just a friendly conversation between friends~"
A sinister aura swirled around her.
Naruto broke into a cold sweat.
He could almost see a demonic figure looming behind her.
Maybe it was best… not to interfere.
A sudden chill settled over the room, instantly breaking the atmosphere.
"Boring."
Sasuke walked past with his usual cold expression and took his seat without sparing anyone a glance.
It took Naruto a moment to react.
"Oi, Sasuke, you bastard! Just 'cause you act all cool doesn't mean I won't kick your ass!"
Sasuke didn't bother responding. To him, Naruto's provocation was nothing more than background noise.
With Sasuke's arrival, more students began filing into the classroom.
Shikamaru strolled in, rubbing his eyes sleepily before dropping into his seat, propping his head up with one hand.
Kiba, with Akamaru perched on his head, barely spared a glance at Naruto and Sasuke's usual squabble before shrugging and taking his seat.
Before long, the whole class had arrived.
Right on cue, Iruka entered, stepping up to the podium. He scanned the room briefly before offering a smile.
"Well, you're all here early. Looks like everyone's excited to start their ninja careers."
His gaze flickered to Naruto, whose face had already fallen.
Iruka sighed. He wasn't going to go easy on him.
"Alright, let's begin the graduation exam. The test will cover the basic Three Jutsu."
Naruto groaned.
Ignoring his student's reaction, Iruka continued, "Who wants to go first?"
Typically, no one volunteered. The usual process was for Iruka to call names in order.
But today, a small hand shot up.
Iruka's eye twitched. He immediately recognized Sakiya Kihana—and knew this meant trouble.
Still, he had already asked the question. There was no going back now.
Suppressing a sigh, he forced a smile.
"Alright, Sakiya. Step forward."
Sakiya confidently strode to the front of the class.
Iruka cleared his throat. "First is the Transformation Jutsu. Use me as the target."
Nodding, Sakiya began forming the necessary hand seals.
But as she did, intricate symbols glowed faintly beneath her feet, forming a circular pattern.
Iruka's brow furrowed. Since when did the Transformation Jutsu require a setup like that?
With a puff of smoke, a perfect copy of Iruka appeared at the center of the glowing circle.
Well, almost perfect.
The clone's eyes were… unsettling.
Iruka pinched the bridge of his nose. "Sakiya… What exactly did you add to this technique?"
The transformed "Iruka" smirked.
"With the power of my Death Perception, my transformation is even stronger."
Iruka's strained smile barely held.
"Riiight… and what exactly does that—"
Before he could finish, the clone's eyes shimmered, and its body dissolved into a flurry of translucent butterflies.
The real Iruka stiffened.
A second later, an identical Iruka appeared beside him, smirking knowingly.
The real Iruka's eyes widened slightly.
What the—?
He hadn't sensed her movement at all.
Is this some combination of Transformation and Clone Jutsu? But it's more advanced than a simple mix of the two…
Iruka took a deep breath and smiled.
"Well done, Sakiya. That was impressive."
The magic circle beneath her faded as she reappeared at the front of the room, her small frame brimming with quiet pride.
Her classmates erupted into chatter.
"Whoa! That was insane, Sakiya!"
"She really went all out!"
Shikamaru, arms crossed, analyzed the performance. "That wasn't just two techniques stacked together. She's doing something else entirely."
Naruto, of course, was the loudest.
"SAKIYA-CHAN IS THE STRONGEST! SAKIYA-CHAN IS THE BEST!"
Sasuke, who had barely paid attention before, now eyed Sakiya with newfound interest.
He narrowed his eyes.
I didn't fully grasp what she did… This girl might not be as ridiculous as I thought.
Iruka, satisfied that Sakiya had passed the exam, moved on.
"Alright, that was an interesting take on the Transformation Jutsu. You pass. Who's next?"
But Sakiya didn't step down.
Instead, she raised her hand again.
Iruka blinked. "Sakiya, you're already done."
Sakiya shook her head. "I still need to test my Substitution Jutsu."
Iruka let out a tired sigh.
"There's no need. You've already passed."
She stared him down.
For some reason, he actually felt pressured.
"…Fine. You want to show off your Substitution Jutsu, go ahead."
Just as Sakiya was about to demonstrate, a voice cut in.
"I'll go next."
It was Ino.
Her head was slightly lowered, making it hard to see her expression.
But Sakiya could feel something dark radiating from her.
A shiver ran down her spine.
Without another word, she stepped back and returned to her seat beside Ino.
The moment she sat down, Ino lifted her head—her usual bright, sunny smile back in place.
Iruka, confused by the silent exchange, shrugged it off.
"Alright then, Ino. Come to the front."
The rest of the exam proceeded as expected.
No one else tried to break reality like Sakiya had.
And, just like in the original timeline, Naruto failed.
Mizuki appeared shortly after, delivering his usual false hope.
Sakiya, watching from her seat, made no move to intervene.
She had no intention of interfering.
…Well, maybe just a little.
"That scroll… it might be worth taking a peek at."
She eyed Naruto as he sulked out of the classroom, deep in thought.
