Chapter 36: Dinner and Classes
The chandelier's warm light fell on the dinner table—there were food of all kinds, and even too many selections—and the robots kept bringing more food.
When they returned to the kitchen, and through the open door, Kael was able to see the robots working tirelessly to prepare even more dishes.
'The robots are doing everything here. Cleaning, cooking, taking care of the dishes, and serving the guests.'
Kael thought and reached towards the bread in the basket, but then the student sitting across from him shook his head.
"Not yet. We'll pray to the Ten Gods first, and then we'll break bread."
Jeff said.
He was a curly-haired young man with a slight dirt on his cheeks—it looked like he just came from the mines—and his voice had a comforting drawl.
'I think Dark Jewel's Corner is a mining town, so I think this one has a money-making job while also studying.'
Kael thought to himself, nodded at him, and put his hand away from the direction of the bread basket.
At that moment, Arthur and everyone around the table interlocked their fingers and bowed their heads.
"The Ten Guardians of the world, thank you for blessing this food and giving us strength to protect our lands from evil forces.
"Maragdi, the strongest God, we thank you for your unwavering protection and guidance.
"Kira, the smartest Goddess, we thank you for your wisdom and divine insight as we navigate the challenges ahead.
"Suzuki, the leader of all Gods, we thank you for your leadership and strength.
"Aerial, the most graceful Goddess, we thank you for your beauty and grace in all that you do.
"Wren, the scariest Goddess, we will always be in your debt for what you have done for us…"
Arthur finished praying to the last of the Gods, and Goddess—then he opened his eyes—and clapped his hands.
"Let's eat!"
With that, the students greedily filled their plates with all kinds of food, poured themselves drinks, and started eating.
It was also loud, as they were talking among themselves.
"My name's Jeff, by the way. What's yours?"
The curly-haired young man asked while eating some fresh sausages, potatoes, and scrambled eggs. There was also some broccoli, green beans, and toast on his plate.
"Kael, nice to meet you."
He said while cutting through the steak with his knife and dipping it in some steak sauce before taking a big bite.
There was also some mashed potatoes and gravy on the plate.
The cup was filled with some red juice, the small plate had a dinner roll smothered in butter, and there was some white bread.
"We usually have a tradition to keep everything pretty transparent here. It starts with the Pathways. I am of the Fighter Pathway; what's yours?"
Help us out by reading on M|V|LEM5PYR.
"Outlaw."
Kael said without hiding it.
He wasn't feeling awkward or embarrassed about his Pathway—he was proud of it—and he wasn't going to let anyone badmouth it.
"Oh…"
Jeff nodded with interest.
Ears perked up, a red-haired girl looked up from her full plate of food at the mention of the Outlaw Pathway.
She had freckles dotted across her cheeks and had deep chocolate-brown eyes that looked really pretty.
"You're of the Outlaw Pathway? So am I!"
Willow said with a bright smile.
It was impossible to tell that she was part of such a dark pathway because of her cheerful personality.
'Right, there was another Outlaw over here…'
Kael thought, nodded at Willow, and resumed eating to fill his empty stomach.
He was feeling quite lucky that the dinner bell came before he did the ritual because when he was making his way down to the dining hall, he suddenly became very hungry.
With a quick look, he was able to see the few people that he hadn't met before and briefly heard their names.
A long black-haired girl with cold black eyes was silently enjoying her meal—she didn't seem very approachable—but she looked really pretty, like a cold princess.
Her name was Sage Everett, and she was part of the Magician Pathway.
Right next to her, a hazel-brown-haired young woman with a beauty mark under her left eye and a mischievous smile on her lips was sipping her tea and chatting animatedly with her friends.
She was quite tomboyish and very outgoing.
Her name was Hazel Sterling of the Ranged Pathway.
And across from her, a cold-looking young man with a dark aura kept drinking some cocoa and was eating some chicken wings.
While he looked cold, he also was easily the shortest one around and resembled a young child more than a grown man.
His name was Levy Porter of Stealth Pathway.
"The headmaster, Arthur Nameless, is of the rare Summoner Pathway and has reached level 6—he is a High Ranker and is close to being a Divine Ranker—we're honored to have him teach us."
Jeff said.
"Level 6…? What's his class name? He can summon those robots, right?"
Kael asked out of curiosity.
"Lord of Robots!"
A shout came from the head of the table—it came from Arthur—and with a wave of his hand, he created yet another robot.
The robot began to clean up the empty plates and glasses from the table.
"I am quite curious about these classes. What's yours, if I may ask?"
Kael asked curiously from the curly-haired young man.
"I don't really mind. I am just level 2. The first level of Fighter is called Fighter, pretty obvious one yeah, but from the next level onwards, it'll be different for everyone.
"However, since level 2 is so early still, there can be people of the same class, and since I am mainly a user of swords, my class name is simply Swordsman."
Jeff said.
"Oh, okay…"
Kael rubbed his chin.
"I am Leader, level 2, and my class name is Strategist, if you're interested."
Elias, the high school history teacher, said from right next to him while enjoying some orange juice.
"Owen's is already getting different from others as he has reached level 3. Mind telling him your class name?"
Jeff asked.
With his mouth full of food, Owen quickly swallowed it all and said.
"Ranged Pathway, level 3, and the class is called Combat Archer!"
'It does seem the classes will become more personal the further one gets in the levels. I am quite interested to see what my class names will be.'
