The Second Chance of Reincarnator

Chapter 21: The Last Prank

Whisper~ Whisper~

Students crowded the hallways outside their classrooms, laughing and chatting with their friends while enjoying the fifteen minutes between the classes.

The girls giggled with each other while the boys tried to attract the attention of their crushes—it was a typical scene on a bustling high school campus.

It was a warm day, but a light breeze helped to keep everyone comfortable, and the sun was shining brightly in the clear blue sky.

"Mmh~"

A young man stood before the open window, enjoying the fresh air on his face and the hair on his head gently blowing in the wind.

"So hot…"

His friend had already taken off his jacket and was leaning against the wall, waving it around to create a cool breeze.

He then saw a girl walk past him with her friends, and he couldn't help but feel a flutter in his chest.

The skirt of hers billowed out behind her in the wind, and the hair that spilled over her shoulders danced like fire.

"Charlotte… She must be the prettiest girl in the world. If only she became my girlfriend, and we'd spend the hot summer days together… Just the two of us, lying on the picnic blanket under the shade of a tree, kissing, and more…"

He breathed dreamily, turned to his friend, and put his head out of the window to feel the cool breeze in his face.

"She is way out of your league, buddy."

The young man said with a chuckle and received a disgruntled groan in response, and then he heard whispering around him.

He turned around and saw a dark-haired young man walking down the hallway—most of the students looked at him and whispered.

The dark-haired young man was holding a gift-wrapped box in his hand.

"Kael… Did you hear about that Soul died in Whitesky?"

The young man talked to his friend, who nodded and sighed.

"Yeah… I was in the same middle school class as Soul, and to think he is dead. I can't believe it."

His friend said.

With his head hanging low, Kael ignored the gazes and just made his way through the hallway with the gift-wrapped box.

At that moment, the phone in his left pocket vibrated, and he pulled it out before accepting the call.

"This is Kael."

He said, opened the door to his homeroom teacher's class, and walked inside the empty classroom.

"Hello, Kael. This is Thomas Rheiner. Are you available to have a meeting face-to-face whenever you're free?"

The dishonest voice came from the other side.

He could tell that Thomas was after something, as he sounded like he was looking for a favor, like some of his friends asking for the homework answers.

"I am quite free now. Want to meet me at the roof of the plumbing company that is across from my school?"

Kael asked and placed the gift-wrapped box on the desk of his teacher, then left the classroom through the sliding door, closed it behind him, and made his way down the stairs.

"Sure… But why there? I thought about meeting after school hours back in Old Bob's ramen shop."

Thomas said, sounding like he was confused.

"I don't have time to meet you after school. My parents wanted me to go home straight away, so if you want to meet, now's the time."

Kael left the school building and hurried out of the yard, crossed the street, and used the alleyway stairs to reach the roof of the plumbing company.

"Very well. I'll be there shortly!"

Thomas shouted, and the phone call ended.

Kael sat down on the roof's edge and pulled out the cigarette and an old rusty lighter before lighting the cigarette and taking a long drag.

"Huff! Huff!"

This chapter is part of the collection on MV2LEMP2YR.

Thomas reached the top of the roof, used the napkin to wipe off the sweat, and saw that the dark-haired young man was sitting there.

"You arrived in time. You haven't missed the show just yet."

Kael said and tossed the cigarette off the roof—it landed on the sidewalk below with a soundless thud.

"What show? Aren't you also supposed to be at school?"

Thomas asked and then heard the school's bells ring—the next classes were about to start.

"School… School… It's such a worthless thing, no? Does anything matter in life? I already know what my future holds."

Kael said.

"…Hmm. You wanted to show me something?"

Thomas asked, sat next to him on the edge, and looked towards the school buildings.

"Look there. That classroom window. You see the doors opening, and students pouring inside. Keep your gaze there, and you'll see something."

Kael said.

Thomas nodded and looked there, where Kael pointed his finger, and saw that all students took their seats behind the desk.

The window seat of Kael's stayed empty—some of the students wondered where he was—and some saw the gift-wrapped box on the teacher's desk.

They wondered what that was about.

At that moment, the teacher entered the classroom, greeted the students, and walked to the desk, surprised to see the gift-wrapped box.

He asked the students if they knew who brought it there, then saw that there was a card attached to the box and saw that it was for him.

With a surprised gaze, the teacher opened the box out of curiosity, and when he opened it, a glitter explosion went off and filled the room with sparkles.

The teacher and students panicked—the glitter was everywhere—on the walls, ceilings, windows, and even in their hair and clothes.

"The hell?"

Thomas asked in surprise.

"My last prank. I am done with school."

Kael jumped to his feet, stretched his arms above his head, and laughed in genuine happiness.

"You're done? What are you going to do now? I wanted to ask you whether you're willing to return to Whitesky."

Thomas said in a hurry.

"Return to Whitesky? You must've lost your mind. I am never going back to that place again."

Kael said with a frown and headed to the stairs.

"Wait! Please, reconsider it. I will be able to get you blessed, and this time around, you won't be as helpless as before!"

Thomas said.

'The nerve of this guy. He doesn't care that he is sending me to my possible death and only cares about keeping his job…'

Kael shook his head and made his way down the stairs.
