The Second Chance of Reincarnator

Chapter 18: My Child

Close to the Ants Village, near the ditched carriage, a ghostly figure walked barefooted on the road and walked with a slow, deliberate pace.

She was translucent, wore a white dress, and had short shoulder-length hair that flowed gently in the breeze.

While her face looked hazy, it was clear that she was incredibly beautiful.

"…"

She stopped by the carriage and looked around—she could tell that something happened over here.

'A dying breath of Rav'akari happened here. It happened here, but he dead-walked away and stopped a distance away.'

She pointed to the distance, saw through the thickness of the trees, and saw the wood cottage a few clicks away without a problem.

With a wave of her hand, a gust of wind swept through the air, carrying the scent of pine and earth with it.

At the same moment, the memory ghosts of two figures, a horse, and a wagon appeared—she saw how one of the figures spilled something at Rav'akari and burned him to a fiery ash.

"I don't sense a Blessed power within him, and yet, he killed a Rav'akari using only his wits."

She said in surprise and felt her heart skip a beat—it also started racing—and she stopped the memory.

The figures froze.

A distance away, the burned figure was trying to crawl away while the other one was still sitting on the ground.

She crouched in front of the sitting person, looked at his ghostly face, and traced her hand down his cheek.

"I sense so much pain."

She kissed him on the forehead, teared up, and whispered into his ear.

"You've done well, my child."

With that, she snapped her fingers, and the memory shattered apart, and she disappeared into the wind alongside the scent of pine.

Kael opened the locker and changed into his Earth clothes, then placed his Whitesky clothes back inside the locker before locking it.

He looked at his silver locket around his neck, caressed it gently, and took it off before stuffing it into his pocket.

It was the only thing he was going to bring back to Earth from this trip.

'I know how to return back to Earth—the Whitesky coin is still in my system, so all I need is to cough it out. My brother said it's easier than it sounds…

'I also know that it somehow only works inside the altars. If I coughed the coin out in the wild, like when I met Rav'akari and decided to escape back to Earth, it wouldn't work.

'I guess it only works in a place where the presence of the Ten Gods is at its strongest.'

Kael thought to himself, leaned on the locker, and put two of his fingers down his throat—he immediately coughed up the Whitesky coin, and it landed on his hand.

'It was really easy…'

He thought, and at that moment, he got sucked inside the purple mist that appeared out of nowhere.

Its pulling force was so immense that he couldn't resist despite his best efforts, and thus, he disappeared from the world of Whitesky.

Entering the yard through a fence gate, Kael found a key under the welcoming mat and opened the door.

He entered, put his shoes by the entrance, and hung his jacket from the coat rack.

"Whew…"

Kael combed his hair back, let out an exhausted sigh, and didn't want to do anything more than just sleep for the rest of the day.

"Who…?"

At that moment, his mother popped her head from the kitchen with a spatula in hand, and when she saw Kael, she looked surprised.

"What were you doing outside? I thought you were sleeping."

"I went for a walk, mom. To clear my head, and all that."

Kael said, saw that his mother's eyes were still quite red, and she looked very tired, as if she hadn't slept much.

He wasn't surprised, as they were still deep in the mourning phase of his brother.

"Oh… Alright, the breakfast will be ready soon."

She said and went back to the kitchen—she was cooking to get her mind off things—but it was difficult to concentrate with the weight of sadness that hung over the house.

"Yawn… I'll go back to sleep."

Kael said with a tired gaze.

"Sleep? You have school in an hour!"

Alissa said.

"…Right, school."

Kael stopped in his tracks and pinched his glabella, as he had completely forgotten about the fact that he was still a student.

"Can I skip today?"

He pleaded.

"…That's fine."

Alissa said softly, stirring the spatula in the pot of chili.

'She has never allowed me to skip school before. I was only allowed if I was so sick that I couldn't even get out of bed…'

Kael thought with a sad look.

He could also see the pain in her gaze when she looked at him—after all, he shared Soul's face.

At that moment, his sister walked down the stairs—she saw him, and her eyes turned curious—she also didn't sleep a wink last night.

"How are you doing, lil sis?"

Kael ruffled her hair, making her pout, and she plopped down on the kitchen table, looking absentmindedly at the fruit bowl.

'…I have never seen her like this before.'

Kael thought and turned to the living room—his father was there reading the newspaper in silence.

He just kept turning the pages, not saying a word, and occasionally sipped on the coffee that was placed on the table next to him.

Kael went upstairs to his room and pulled out the Whitesky coin from his pocket—when he returned back to Earth, it was on his hand.

Thus, whenever he wanted, he could just swallow the coin again and go back to Whitesky, but he went to the desk and put it inside the drawer.

He locked it tight.

Kael lay down on the bed, covered his eyes with his hand, and let his body relax down into the soft mattress.

His body was done for—he doubted he could walk one meter even if he wanted to—and he drifted off into a deep and dreamless sleep.
