[20ps]

The desert town was alive with voices, merchants barking over fruit and spices, wind sweeping dust through alleyways, and the occasional clank of armor from passing guards. Rael and Kaya had just arrived, the weight of the heat pressing down on them as they strolled through the bazaar in search of food and a place to rest.

Rael's golden eyes shifted around calmly, taking in the layout of the place, noting anything suspicious. Kaya adjusted the scarf over her head to shield herself from the blazing sun.

As they passed a quiet alley, a desperate scream broke the buzz of the crowd.

"Help! Please, someone!"

Rael's gaze snapped toward the sound without hesitation.

A girl was being cornered by a group of thugs in the shadow of the alleyway. Her long blue hair was matted with sweat and dust, her clothing torn as she fought against three filthy men. One had a blade; another was licking his lips like a predator.

"We're gonna have fun with you first," one of them sneered, grabbing her wrist.

She screamed, tears in her eyes. "No! Please!"

Rael's figure was a blur.

One instant, the man with the blade was smirking.

The next, he was flying backward, his ribs crushed with a sickening crack as Rael's punch folded him like paper.

Another thug barely turned before his face was slammed into the wall with enough force to leave a crater. The third dropped his weapon and tried to run, but a dagger embedded itself in his calf, pinning him to the dirt.

The girl had frozen in place, staring at the man who had just saved her as if he were a divine apparition.

Kaya arrived seconds later, pistol drawn, but lowered it quickly as the danger had already been handled.

Rael looked down at the blue-haired girl. "Are you hurt?"

She shook her head, breathing heavily. "No... I-I'm okay. You... saved me."

He helped her to her feet, his expression unreadable.

"Thank you," she whispered, eyes filled with awe. "Truly."

Kaya glanced at her carefully. "You're not from around here."

The girl hesitated, then glanced around before answering in a low voice. "No… I'm not. My name is Vivi."

Kaya blinked. "Vivi? Wait, as in the royal—"

"I'm Princess Nefertari Vivi," she said quietly. "I didn't want anyone to recognize me… but I guess that failed."

Rael studied her expression. Her voice was genuine, laced with desperation and urgency. "Why are you here? And why were they after you?"

Vivi looked down, then back up at him with tears forming in her eyes. "Because I'm trying to save my kingdom. I came alone to investigate Crocodile and Baroque Works, but I was discovered. My people are suffering. War is brewing. Crocodile is turning the people against the royal family. If I don't stop him, Alabasta will fall into chaos."

Her hands trembled. "I tried. I really tried to fix things on my own, but I'm just one person. I can't do this by myself anymore."

Rael said nothing, simply watching her.

Vivi continued, her voice cracking, "Please… I beg you. Help me. You're strong. I've heard of you—people speak of a warrior who defeated a Vice Admiral, someone the World Government fears."

She stepped closer to Rael, her expression raw with emotion. "Please. I don't care if you're a pirate or a wanderer. I just want to save my people."

Rael remained still for a long moment, his gaze unwavering. Kaya stood silently beside him, watching the desperation etched into the princess's face.

Finally, he spoke with a calm voice. "I have my own goals right now. But when I'm finished… I'll help you."

Vivi's eyes widened, tears now running down her cheeks—but not from fear. From relief.

"Thank you!" she cried, and without warning, she leaned forward and kissed Rael on the lips.

The moment stunned him.

Kaya's jaw dropped. "W-What?!"

Rael blinked, barely reacting, still caught off guard by the boldness.

Vivi pulled back quickly, face flushed red. "S-Sorry! I— I didn't mean to—!"

Kaya stormed up between them, gently separating Vivi from Rael with her hand on the princess's shoulder.

"He said he'd help. That doesn't mean you can throw yourself at him," Kaya said, trying to keep her voice even despite the jealousy rising in her chest.

Vivi bit her lip and nodded quickly, stepping back with a shy smile and blushing cheeks. "Y-You're right. I'm sorry. I was just… overwhelmed."

Rael let out a small sigh. "Let's move. If those men were watching her, others might be nearby."

Kaya narrowed her eyes at Vivi, but didn't say more. Vivi, for her part, looked genuinely apologetic… but she also kept stealing glances at Rael with curiosity and something else stirring beneath.

And so, the three moved through the winding streets of the desert town, unaware that Crocodile's agents had already caught wind of the incident.

Far away, within the walls of Rainbase, a report was being drafted. One that would soon land on Crocodile's desk—with the name Rael written in bold across the top.
