The Scrap Tamer

Chapter 181: Future [2]

"Alright Evo, let's do this" Reid said and was immediately transferred to the forge lab.

Appearing in the forge lab, Rusty, Beel, Nyx, Axie and Atlas were already there, waiting.

[Let's Begin] Evo said and multiple circular platforms rose from the lab's white floor.

Another rose close to Reid which confused him for a moment, until Evo explained.

[Due to you developing a core, I can't just let your soul power automatically increase] she started, [I'll have to make sure your core is completely stabilized before increasing your soul power.]

"I see," Reid nodded and stepped up the platform, with his forged beasts following his lead.

But unlike on the platforms, instead of robotic arms descending from above, a cylindrical tube like glass sealed him on the platform.

Looking at it with more of curiosity than suspicion, Reid asked "what's this for?"

[You'll have to be knocked out while your soul power merges with your void energy] Evo explained, [I don't know how painful it's going to be, so the tube will ensure your body stays stable.]

"Alright," he nodded, "let's start."

His tube was suddenly filled with a faint silver mist.

"Hmm?" Reid tilted his head a bit after a couple of seconds, "I don't think this'll—"

Before he could complete whatever he wanted to say, he was completely knocked out causing Evo to let out a chuckle.

[Alright, let's get you as strong as possible.]

_____________

While Evo worked on Reid and his forged beasts, Reid faced his red eyed self again.

But this time, instead of a destroyed world, they both stood in a pitch black space, almost like the one Reid previously met the watcher.

"Show me again," before red eyed Reid had the chance to say anything, Reid spoke up "this time, I want to see everything."

"Are you sure?" Red eyed Reid asked, but the look in Reid's blue eyes was all the answer he needed.

"Fine," He said with a sigh, "but I'm ending it the moment you start having another breakdown."

Reid just nodded, choosing to say nothing. His previous encounter with Chaos was still fresh in his mind.

He could even feel the lingering fear instilled in him from the previous 'encounter', but that was exactly the reason why he needed to face it again.

He needed to overcome that feeling, the feeling of being so helpless in the face of that much power.

It overwhelmed him so much that he felt himself drowning.

The black space around them suddenly started gaining color as the scene changed.

They reappeared back in the destroyed City, giving Reid the chance to actually take in the destruction around them.

But like before, they headed towards the sound of fighting again, arriving the exact moment Malrath fell.

The same suppressing aura descended on Reid's shoulders again, forcing him to his knees but instead of screaming due to the pain the pressure caused him, Reid clenched his fists and gritted his teeth.

Blood suddenly started dripping from his nose, something which shouldn't have been possible since Reid wasn't physically present but neither was Chaos.

"You... impress me, mortal," Chaos spoke to the Reid that stood...no, floating before it , its voice forcing Reid to cover his ears that had also started bleeding as he bit his lips, trying his hardest to keep his sanity.

"That a fragile flicker of flesh could unravel five of my progeny... Curious. I did not foresee such defiance from something so... impermanent."

"It matters not," Chaos said, its vast form looming closer to the planet. "All your efforts are meaningless. There is nothing left to save."

Future Reid gripped the sword in hand tighter. Chaos was right, there was nothing left to save, nothing left to fight for.

Their universe has almost been returned to nothingness, the humans of his world were no more, he was the last one standing after months of war against these things and to be honest, he was exhausted.

At this point, he only wanted to be with them again but he couldn't die, not before making sure not a single trace of Chaos remained.

Reid pointed the sword at Chaos before saying, "I'll take you down if it's the last thing I do."

His voice sounded weary, maybe due to the unhealing wounds he had gained through these months or maybe it was the lack of sleep.

But the reason didn't matter, all that mattered was taking Chaos down.

Chaos on the other hand tilted its head, if that was even a concept that could be applied to it, "your words baffle me human, how do you intend to take down that which is beyond your understanding?"

Future Reid didn't flinch.

"I don't need to understand you," he said, his voice low and his sword still in hand. "I just need to end you."

After his words, as if space folded on itself, Reid was suddenly before Chaos's titan form, his blade already swinging.

The blade seemed to create cracks in reality itself but all that power didn't matter as the blade just disintegrated the moment it got close to Chaos.

Reid's eyes widened in disbelief, but he didn't have time to process it. A massive ripple of force erupted from Chaos's form, launching him through the crumbling remnants of skyscrapers, the shockwave distorting space itself.

He smashed through building after building, until his armored body finally crashed into the side of a collapsed spire, leaving a crater.

Gasping for breath, blood trailing down from the corners of his mouth, Reid pushed himself up slowly. His clawed hands trembling. His blade was gone.

That blade was the last thing received from his master, one that couldn't be so easily destroyed.

Yet, without even doing anything, Chaos destroyed it. Still, Reid stood.

"You truly are persistent," Chaos mused, drifting closer. "Even in the face of oblivion, you crawl."

Reid coughed, a weak chuckle escaping his lips. "I've… come too far… to stop now."

"You cannot kill me, Mortal," Chaos said, its voice booming through the void. "I am entropy. I am the undoing. The universes, planets, stars, living, even your memories, your soul—will be consumed."

As if to prove it's point, a wave of dark purple headed towards him threatening to end him and everything else in its path.
