Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Alibi
Now, the thing about us, Tony Macaroni and I, was that we were soon to become partners in crime.
He wanted to keep me on as a henchman. I wanted to stick it up to him.
It was as simple as that.
But that wasn't the important part. No, we were there, negotiating with the thin air. Because Tony didn't want to give up his hero status!
No! He wanted to be the Sun Who Lied! A man so vile, that most people just thought of his sort as someone who was neither bad nor good.
Just vile.
"And I can throw in this armor," he said, as he took my armor from the sack! The one he stole!
"Listen here, you!" I was willing to do just about anything to make him give me back my armor. "One of us has to be in armor, or the nymphs of the Central Forest Pond won't take us seriously!"
These nymphs were said to be the prettiest in the land. The ones who were so beautiful that even the satyrs didn't dare to make cat calls behind their back!
Besides, if one dared to make a cat call about one of them fine ladies, they killed them.
Or had them killed.
Gruesomely.
"I don't care about women!" He protested, but his cheeks were crimson!
I thought that it was the happiest day of my life! After all, if he really wanted to have something to do with a nymph, then he was not going after me!
A fairy's worst fear was to become a henchman. Not only that, but to become a love interest. There were a few things which I couldn't abide by!
And me playing for a team I had no interest in was one of them!
"I care about Mike!"
Oh, shit! Which sort of vile witch had given me to Tony? What happened to his girlfriend?
"You might not remember," Tony told me with a straight face, showing me his ring.
A ring which belonged to my mother!
Now, the fact that he managed to put on a ring which was magical and for a woman was beyond my comprehension. But the fact remained that he was a git!
And as all gits, he was not going to get me!
Not in his bed, not in his heart, not in his pants!
I blinked.
Now, I was just mumbling things out loud, weren't I?
"Look, I don't know where you found this, but I'd like it back!" I was ready to curse him.
To tell him he was rotten to the core!
But my mother never liked me. And her ring liked me even less.
It glowed, magicking a ring on my finger. There, right next to my name on the system screen, was: husband; henchman.
"What?" So, now everyone could marry whomever they wished, just because they were their henchmen?
The heck? Was that even legal?
Or was it just something that the people did, when they thought that no one was going to make them pay?
"Well, dear," Tony had the gall to say. "I think that we should use the dragon teeth to get you something nice!"
I looked at the road ahead of us. Slowly, the miasma of the Black Market began to dissipate.
Of course, it did!
The goblins would let you in only then when you wanted to buy something.
Not when you wanted to sell something.
"And!" He continued, as he waved the dragon teeth in my face! Hey! When did he take them? "I think it's adorable that you have put: Tony Macaroni next to my name!"
I didn't find it cute. I found it demeaning. But that, apparently, was beside the point.
A goblin who had no business looking so smug came at us. He already had armor on display, tugging it behind him with a rope.
"I heard you want to buy some armor for your beloved, sir?" I wanted to strangle the darn creature! Who did he think I was? Calling me Tony's beloved like that!
"We just got married," Tony chirped. I wanted to sink into the ground, but it refused to take me.
I could bet that, had I been gay, Anthony would have never wanted me. He would have never even dared to consider that I might actually be someone worth having.
But now, that he was considering it, I could bet that I needed to get out of there, and fast!
Because, as much as I didn't like the idea of being a henchman, I liked the idea of being with a boy even less! A boy who was going to become a man, one day!
Who was going to do unspeakable things with me in a bed! Darn it, why did mom decide to marry me to the boy who stole her wedding ring?
And what is more, why did she even let it get stolen?
"Yes! Give me adamantine with enough runes to withstand dragon flames!" Tony placed the entire bag with the loot there, by the goblin.
The green creature rummaged inside, taking out tooth after tooth, bone after bone, as I was slowly losing my mind.
Anthony was spending this much for me. He was going to continue my dream of becoming a Dragon Teeth Thieving Fairy?
One of a kind fairy, who showed everyone that tooth fairies are not to be underestimated?
He was…
"And this leather armor for Mike over there! You see us, do you need to take our measurements?"
I blinked, as the goblin eyed me.
Leather armor? My husband wanted me to fight dragons in leather armor?
The fudge!!!
"You scum!" I began because some things could not be forgiven. "I gave you my best years!"
"Mike," Tony began with the voice my father used every time my mother used that same way of speaking. "This armor has enough runes on it to withstand a charge from a raging giant. Come see for yourself, please."
I gulped. He was buying me the better armor.
I felt like a wreck then, as he smiled a charming smile at me.
His dimples doing their magic on my fragile, easily bought, heart.
