Chapter 28: The Blood Raven King
"Damn it, why am I so unlucky?" Liam Smith muttered dejectedly.
Hearing the approaching Blood Ravens behind him and their increasingly distinct hisses, Liam Smith didn't dare to look back at all. Without the slightest pause in his steps, he dashed frantically towards the grass in the forest.
Alistair, on the other hand, seemed completely unconcerned and chuckled a couple of times. "Little guy, now you know that the world is full of dangers everywhere, right? This experience is good for you."
Liam Smith gave him a withering look. "What time is it now, and you still have the mood to joke around? Why don't you hurry up and help?"
"Help?" Alistair sneered. "I didn't attract these Blood Ravens. What help should I give? Besides, they're just some Blood Ravens. I believe you can handle them."
"Come on!" Liam Smith said with a look of annoyance. "It's easy for you to talk like that when you're not the one in trouble."
As they were speaking, a rather robust Blood Raven had already caught up. With a strange cry, it pounced on Liam Smith, flapping its wings vigorously and creating a strong gust of wind.
Liam Smith was startled. His body suddenly shifted to the left, and he flew backward.
But it was still a bit too late. Although he managed to avoid the Blood Raven's attack safely, he got another wound on his shoulder.
These creatures were too fast. If he kept running, he probably wouldn't be able to escape. He had to find a place to hide and wait out the danger. Otherwise, his body wouldn't be able to take it.
With these thoughts in mind, Liam Smith kept running while observing the surroundings, desperately hoping to find a place to evade the pursuit of the Blood Ravens.
Just then, Liam Smith suddenly noticed something abnormal with his body. Several of his wounds started to feel hot, and a stream of heat began to penetrate his skin and flesh, flowing through his meridians and spreading throughout his body.
At first, his body just felt a bit of restlessness in his blood and qi. But soon, Liam Smith clearly felt a burning pain, as if his whole body was being roasted over a fire. It was really unbearable.
"Why is this happening?" Liam Smith became a bit anxious.
Alistair said calmly, "It's about time."
"What's about time? Master, do you know what's going on?" Liam Smith asked.
"Don't worry. It's just the toxin of the Blood Ravens taking effect in your body."
As soon as he heard that he had been poisoned, Liam Smith immediately thought of the Detoxifying Elixir he had bought earlier on Silvermoon Valley Commercial Street. He quickly took it out and swallowed one. His vital energy circulated, rapidly refining the elixir.
The effect of the Detoxifying Elixir was obvious. Moments later, Liam Smith felt a surge of medicinal power suddenly emerge in his body, colliding with that burning heat. The two forces gradually neutralized each other, and Liam Smith felt more and more comfortable.
Liam Smith dodged the attacks of several more Blood Ravens, looking a bit out of breath. But he still didn't have a chance to rest. These Blood Ravens seemed to have gone crazy. Along the way, they had already eaten several of their companions that Liam Smith had killed. And now they still stubbornly chased after Liam Smith, as if they wouldn't be satisfied until they had killed him today.
The Blood Ravens that had been chasing him from behind were now only a step away from him. Liam Smith could clearly feel their breath.
Suddenly, a series of rapid chirps sounded. The Blood Ravens that had been following Liam Smith flapped their wings violently. One by one, they shot towards Liam Smith like arrows released from a bow.
Although Liam Smith didn't look back, his natural instincts and keen senses made him roll sideways. He tapped his toes on the trunk of a nearby big tree, and his body bounced out again. In an instant, he was several feet away from the Blood Ravens.
Unexpectedly, these Blood Ravens were quite smart. They actually understood the principle of attacking from both the front and the back. Liam Smith knew that he couldn't outrun the Blood Ravens, so he didn't stop. He pushed aside a cluster of grass and crawled in. At this moment, he didn't have time to distinguish the direction.
In order to prevent the Blood Ravens from catching up with him and to buy as much time as possible, Liam Smith kept changing directions. Soon, Liam Smith was also a bit confused and completely lost his sense of direction.
But the Blood Ravens obviously wouldn't give Liam Smith a chance to rest and figure out his direction. In the dark night, their eyes seemed to be able to see as clearly as in the daytime, and they could clearly see Liam Smith.
As time passed, Liam Smith's mood became more and more gloomy. His vital energy was constantly draining. He estimated that in a little while, it would be completely exhausted. By then, he would probably be eaten up by the group of creatures behind him.
So Liam Smith took out two Soul crystals, one in each hand, and while running, he began to restore his vital energy. He also took a restoring vital energy Elixir whenever he had a chance. For a while, there wasn't any immediate danger.
But after all, the rate of consumption was higher than the rate of restoration. Even if he could hold on for a while, in the end, he still couldn't escape.
Just as Liam Smith was desperately thinking about how to escape, his eyes suddenly lit up. Not far ahead, there was a stone wall. The surface of the wall was bare and extremely smooth. On the rock wall, there were several caves of different sizes, vaguely visible.
The large ones were about half the size of a person, and the small ones were only the size of a fist. They were scattered chaotically around the rock wall, seemingly naturally formed.
Liam Smith had an idea. As long as he entered the cave and then took out the Mo Stone to block the entrance, as long as the entrance and the Mo Stone were of the right size, the Blood Ravens wouldn't be able to get in, and he could escape from the jaws of the ravens.
Thinking of this, Liam Smith showed a triumphant smile at the corner of his mouth. He increased his pace and quickly ran to the bottom of the rock wall. He glanced at the Blood Ravens behind him, and then his body lightened as he climbed up the protruding or recessed stones on the rock wall.
Just as Liam Smith found a cave of the right size, the Blood Ravens also caught up. Liam Smith almost crawled into the cave with his hands and feet. Then he took out the Mo Stone from his Storage bag and blocked the entrance. The series of actions were as smooth as flowing water.
The Mo Stone fit the entrance quite well. There was only a gap of a few inches. Liam Smith could see clearly outside, but the Blood Ravens couldn't fly in through the gap.
Looking at the Blood Ravens hissing outside, looking angry but unable to get in, Liam Smith finally let go of his heart. He let out a long sigh of relief, sat down leaning against the Mo Stone, still feeling a bit scared.
Since the entrance of the cave was originally very small, Liam Smith's head was only a few inches away from the cave ceiling.
Before Liam Smith could catch his breath for a few moments, a discovery made him unable to stay calm anymore.
He had thought that he was already safe, but when he looked around the cave he was in, his heart was raised again.
There were actually quite a few red dots on the cave ceiling, and there were also faint breathing sounds.
Liam Smith felt that his heart had reached his throat, and he didn't dare to breathe too loudly.
Instinctively, he wanted to leave, but thinking of the Blood Ravens still outside, he gave up this idea.
Suddenly, a strange cry sounded in the cave, and a black shadow shot towards Liam Smith.
Liam Smith was immediately stunned. This creature was none other than a Blood Raven.
At this moment, Liam Smith realized that he might have accidentally broken into the lair of the Blood Ravens. There were actually more red dots hanging upside down on the cave ceiling than the ones chasing him outside.
Looking at the Blood Raven flying towards him, Liam Smith didn't think twice. He took out a fine iron dagger from his Storage bag and stabbed it into the body of the Blood Raven.
A stream of blood shot out. After flapping its wings a few times, the Blood Raven went limp and fell to the ground.
Perhaps because of the smell of blood, the Blood Ravens in the cave couldn't hold back anymore. A chaotic noise sounded, and a group of Blood Ravens immediately flew down and began to devour the body of their dead companion in front of Liam Smith.
Liam Smith couldn't help but take a few steps back. He knew that once these creatures had finished eating the body of their companion, it would probably be his turn.
Was he really destined to die here today? But he wasn't willing to. He still had a lot of things to do. He couldn't die.
Liam Smith's eyes suddenly burst out with a ray of spirit and light, and he gripped the dagger in his hand even tighter.
Alistair's voice sounded calmly, "Little guy, have you decided to fight to the death?"
"You old guy, you're the one who caused all this. Now that I'm in a life-and-death situation, you're happy, aren't you?" Liam Smith said angrily.
"Hehe, don't be angry. As the saying goes, there's always a way out."
"There's always a way out?" Liam Smith gave a bitter laugh. "This is a complete dead end. The entrance of the cave only leads to the front and the back, and the top and bottom are thick rocks. But now there are Blood Ravens in both the front and the back directions. There's no way out at all."
"How do you know it's impossible if you haven't tried?"
"Hmm?" Liam Smith could tell that there was more to Alistair's words. Did he mean that there was still a chance of survival?
The directions of the top and the bottom were highly unlikely. The situation outside wasn't good either, and he had just come in from outside.
Was the way to survive inside? Liam Smith looked into the cave. It was pitch black, but he could confirm that the passage inside the cave was quite long.
At this moment, there was no other option. Since Alistair wasn't going to help, he could only brace himself and go deeper into the cave.
Taking a few deep breaths, Liam Smith silently counted to three in his heart. With a soft shout, he suddenly removed the Mo Stone. While the Blood Ravens inside were still eating their companion, he shot into the cave.
Although most of the Blood Ravens in the cave were feasting on their companion, there were still a few that were pushed outside and couldn't get a bite. Now they naturally fixed their eyes on Liam Smith.
As Liam Smith jumped over the group of Blood Ravens, four or five Blood Ravens also flew up. It seemed that Liam Smith was a delicious meal.
Without the Mo Stone blocking the entrance, the Blood Ravens outside also flew in. After a series of chirps and strange cries, it seemed that the body of their companion on the ground had been completely eaten up. A group of Blood Ravens began to chase after Liam Smith.
The cave was quite peculiar. The further inside he went, the larger the space became. The whole cave was like a slope.
The further he walked inside, the more stuffy Liam Smith felt. It was very likely that he had already reached inside the mountain of the rock wall. The surrounding air, including the Spirit of heaven and earth, was gradually becoming thinner.
Suddenly, Liam Smith stopped in his tracks. In front of him was a huge cave. There were small and large holes all around. Some were naturally formed, and some were probably made by humans or the Blood Ravens themselves. There were some dry grasses and other things at the entrances of some of the holes, which should be the places where the Blood Ravens usually rested.
As if to confirm Liam Smith's guess, a few breaths after he entered, a pair of red eyes appeared in these small holes. They were the familiar red eyes of the Blood Ravens.
On a stone platform directly opposite, a pair of red eyes suddenly opened in the darkness. A somewhat heavy voice sounded, and a figure larger than the other Blood Ravens leaped up, flapping its wings and charging towards Liam Smith.
This was also a Blood Raven, but for some reason, its body was a bit larger than an ordinary Blood Raven. It was probably the leader of these Blood Ravens.
Liam Smith quickly dodged to avoid the attack of the giant Blood Raven and leaned against the nearby stone wall.
The Blood Raven crashed directly into the ground, and a piece of rubble burst apart.
Liam Smith didn't know what would have happened if he had been hit. Anyway, the result wasn't something he wanted to see.
"Master, why is this one so big?"
"Hehe, the Blood Raven King is naturally different from other Blood Ravens."
"The Blood Raven King?" Liam Smith looked at the huge creature in front of him, and his heart sank to the bottom.
