The Rise of the Black Plain

Chapter 140: On Alert!

As they approached Dry City, the three members of the Silva family immediately noticed a wall growing closer and closer. It was very tall and surrounded the entire region of the city.

In fact, they couldn't even see where it started from or ended at!

It was as if it stretched infinitely and was completely concealing the interior of Minos' city, to the point where the trio could only see one of the entrances leading to the place. And at the entrance was a big steel gate, with a cylindrical building, where some soldiers were currently patrolling.

"Huh?" one of them made a surprised sound upon witnessing the sight before them.

The blond man then turned to look at the oldest in their group who was wearing a shocked expression on his face. "Dennis, did Dry City have a wall like this in the past? I've never been inside this city, so I'm in doubt..."

"This... No, there definitely was no such thing in the past. And even if there was a wall before, it would be minuscule when compared to this. It wouldn't have reached this level!" Dennis uttered in response, disbelief clearly evident on his face.

Dennis had already traversed through this city 30 years ago, during one of his trips through this region. 'Did the king order the construction of this wall during the time that has passed?' He questioned himself skeptically.

However, he quickly dismissed the thought, knowing that the king wouldn't have taken such a measure in a location as such.

'No, it cannot be. The king would not do such a thing in this place.' He further probed the spiritual energy of the region and realized that it was almost as weak as before which supported his thought.

"What has happened here in these 30 years?"

He muttered to himself.

"30 years? Pay attention. This wall seems to be quite new!" the woman leading the group remarked as the carriage of the three approached more and more closer to the city wall. "This must be something related to that kid, Minos! He must have erected this wall to protect himself!"

Upon hearing this, the blond man burst into laughter. "Hahaha, what an idiot! This guy is truly squandering his few crystals in this shitty place!"

"Interesting... I am even more curious to see what he wants to hide behind such a high imposing wall!" Sarah commented with a faint smile on her face.

As the group approached closer, they could not see the plantations made in the Black Plain, as the terrain of this region hid these areas well.

The region where the crops were growing was at a point where the altitude of the terrain hindered visibility.

After all, a plain is never completely flat!

Furthermore, apart from being visible from the sky, the fields could only be seen from a long distance and that too if the people were coming from a specific direction from the city.

Otherwise, to see these fields from the ground, someone would have to be very close to them, which was not the case for the three investigators from the Silva family.

And since the group belonging to the Silva family did not come from that direction and were not close enough to the place either, they remained completely unaware of this crucial place.

...

Meanwhile, at the checkpoint near that entrance, the prowling soldiers noticed a carriage approaching the entrance from the west.

And as the soldiers recognized the symbol of a silver eagle on the carriage, several of them had already understood who these people were!

"Quickly, activate the sound array and send a warning signal to the mansion and headquarters! The Silva family members are approaching!" one of the leading soldiers at this post shouted out loud for this to be done urgently.

Minos had already made it clear to his soldiers that the Silva family was an enemy of the Black Plain Army and because of this, all the soldiers were already aware of this and knew how to identify the members of this enemy force!

And as for the sound array in question, it was a low-level array, which could emit audible warnings from a distance.

It always worked in conjunction with other arrays of the same kind, where one side could alert the others.

The Black Plain Army had bought these arrays from the Cohen family store even before the wall was completely ready. After all, it would be useless to have a checkpoint if it could not even receive reinforcements or warn about specific dangers.

...

Meanwhile, in the central part of Dry City, two buildings not far from each other suddenly started to blast a high-volume alarm, alarming everyone in the vicinity.

Woop!

Woop!

The piercing warning sounds rang out all of a sudden, causing everyone in Minos' headquarters and mansion to stop what they were doing and raise their heads as they looked from side to side.

Many of them knew what such an alarm meant.

This could signify a severe threat to the city, prompting all the available soldiers to immediately gather in front of the mansion to take orders from Minos or whoever was in charge of the town!

Meanwhile, the civilian members of Minos' forces wore confused looks on their faces, many of them did not know what could be happening. In no time, a crowd had already started to form on the freeway avenue leading to the headquarters of the local government.

At the same time, in Minos' office, the young Stuart was alone while engrossed in making some plans for the city, when he suddenly heard the blaring alarm sounds.

He turned to the side of his office window and gazed at the cityscape. 'Is it one of the noble families of the kingdom?' A thought raced through his mind.

Along with the Silva family, which was already their sworn enemy, the arrival of any other noble families of the Brown Kingdom was also thought to be a warning notice. After all, if any of them discovered what was happening in Dry City, it would be almost impossible to avoid a confrontation.

And as soon as that happened, it would only be a matter of time before this whole region was turned into a battlefield!

There were no noble families who were truly benevolent or those who did not care about power. Though some of them might choose to live peacefully without interfering in the affairs of others, that was something that only occurred among equals!

The Black Plain couldn't even be considered an average force in this region. So, even a 'peaceful' power would have their eyes on this place with greed!

That was human nature. The strong could have everything, while the weak had no right to anything!

'Hmm, I better take certain precautions... Whoever it is, now that you're here, you can give up on leaving this city alive!' Minos contemplated with a determined look.

For the sake of his own security and stability of the Black Plain, the young Stuart was prepared to exterminate any group that would pose a threat!

Minos disliked killing someone without good reason. Still, being a leader he knew that he must protect his domain with an iron fist and eliminate any threat. And Minos wasn't naive to believe in things such as 'repent' and 'we're not going to say anything,' any witnesses had to be eliminated, or terrible consequences could unfold because of this in the future!

Zum!

The space around Minos trembled slightly as he was suddenly teleported to the Spatial Kingdom. If the enemy force was much stronger than the army could handle, he wanted to leave Emlyn in charge.

When she sensed someone's approach, Emlyn, who was lying quietly next to the big house, suddenly opened her eyes and saw her daughter playing with Alison while the young Lee was cultivating elsewhere.

The two youths had returned to their training shortly after Minos returned from the Cromwell Kingdom.

Anyway, Butler Dillian was also in this place in addition to these two. He was dedicated to cultivating as much as he could since he was getting closer and closer to level 50.

Finally, Emlyn noticed Minos approaching her when she swiftly flapped her six tails and walked towards him. She found it a bit strange that this young man had returned just after finishing his training just a few minutes ago.

Moreover, it had been just two days since she had already managed to reach the 6th stage!

Of course, she was able to reach her current level with the help of her remarkable potential and also after eating many of the herbs provided by Minos.

Spiritual beasts could not use spiritual crystals like humans, so they were more dependent on spiritual medicines and energy-rich foods to level up.

Of course, with their greater compatibility with spiritual energy, beasts could be much more efficient at absorbing these resources than humans. Also, they did not have to deal with many impurities left by these resources since their bodies had much more affinity with these items.

Finally, Minos arrived in front of Butler Dillian, who was sitting in a chair in front of the house. At the same time, Emlyn, the big fox, stood nearby, waiting to hear the reason for this unusual visit.

"We have an emergency in the city. Both of you need to come with me immediately if we aren't able to handle this alone." said the young Stuart with a hint of worry in his voice as he looked at the two.

It could be possible that the unwanted visitors were just weaker people, similar to Darell's group in the past. And if that was the case, then Minos alone would be more than enough to stop them.

However, the young Stuart didn't want to take any chances. The enemy group could be much stronger than that, and they might even end up in a terrible situation. In such a case, he would need Butler Dillian to heal the wounds suffered by the soldiers. At the same time, Emlyn could save the day if it were necessary.

After saying this, Minos did not wait for any response from the two as he just stepped forward and held one of Emlyn's paws while having his other hand on Dillian's left shoulder.

Zum!
