Chapter 614: Chapter 614: Judging a Hero by Size
"Cheers!"
On the second deck of the superyacht "Rising Sun," a chorus of toasts echoed, including from Matthew, David Ellison, Big Beard Jack, Helen Herman, the bald CEO, Megan Ellison, Amanda, Stephenie Meyer, and Sean Daniel, along with their companions. They raised their glasses to celebrate the preliminary preparations for two large projects.
A few glasses of champagne downed, the atmosphere on the yacht grew even more lively.
Nina Dobrev looked at the super luxurious yacht and then at the Hollywood bigwigs, feeling confident she had made her way into an extraordinary circle.
She had come with Matthew, spending most of her nights with him recently.
After the collective toast, the guests started mingling freely. Handsome and beautiful servers, both men and women, entered the scene, bringing fruit platters and drinks to the guests.
Taking a fruit platter from a female server, Nina Dobrev examined them closely. All were strikingly attractive, clearly chosen with care. Some women even rivaled her in looks.
But these people were there to serve her, allowing her to enjoy their services like a princess.
Moreover, the bigwigs on the deck greeted her politely, and she...
Nina Dobrev glanced at Matthew: she only needed to keep him satisfied.
She had no illusions about what a man like Matthew could offer in reality. Though she was young, she was clear-headed enough to understand. Even if she weren't, one look at the beautiful women serving on the yacht would make things clear—pretty women were never in short supply for a man like Matthew.
Nina knew what Matthew was interested in: her ability to perform more complex moves, something fresh and exciting. Once that thrill faded, she guessed he wouldn't seek her out again.
That's how playboys were, after all.
She didn't complain or feel dissatisfied because it was her choice, and she had gained plenty from it. Media interviews, a minor role in "Fast & Furious 4," and widespread media attention from being seen with Matthew.
Her time with Matthew had attracted increasing paparazzi, and her name, "Nina Dobrev," was appearing more frequently in entertainment media, almost making her a star.
She had even been approached by film crews for auditions, something unimaginable before.
Seeing a pretty blonde woman approach Matthew, Nina, holding her fruit platter, walked over.
Standing by the railing on the second deck, Matthew felt the cool sea breeze, slightly salty, as Amanda stood opposite him.
"The foundation has officially been renamed the Women's and Children's Foundation, and the procedures are complete," Amanda said, arms crossed. "Our first charity donation for women has also been sent."
"Thank you for your hard work," Matthew replied with a smile.
Amanda shook her head slightly. "It's just part of my job." She noticed a girl approaching and asked, "Are you planning to date her officially?"
Knowing whom Amanda meant, Matthew didn't hide the truth. "No."
"You're just like that..." Amanda sighed, "Forget it; I won't bother lecturing you."
She turned to leave, saying, "I won't interrupt you and your girl."
Matthew just smiled without responding as Nina Dobrev arrived.
"Have some fruit," Nina said, offering a grape to Matthew and glancing at the direction Amanda had left, though she didn't ask about her. Instead, she commented, "This yacht is huge."
"It's Larry Ellison's yacht," Matthew replied, taking the grape. "Last time I was here, David told me his father once said, 'A man is judged by his size.'"
Nina suddenly laughed and leaned in closer to Matthew, whispering, "So you're a true hero!" She winked at him. "Your size... is impressive."
Matthew popped the grape into his mouth as Nina continued, "I thought of a new idea. I used to do gymnastics. How about we try it tonight?"
Matthew, not one to refuse such an invitation, said, "We'll head back after the party."
"Hey, Matthew."
David Ellison's voice came from the left. He walked over, casually asking, "Why are you hiding here?"
"It's a good spot for the sea breeze," Matthew replied, leaning against the railing.
David nodded at Nina Dobrev, acknowledging her, and leaned against the railing with Matthew. "We're finally ready to make our move."
Matthew, however, joked, "What if I lead you into a trap and we end up bankrupt after these two movies are released?"
"No worries," David said confidently. "We've each invested less than a hundred million dollars; even if it fails, it won't cripple us."
Hearing this, Nina Dobrev was secretly shocked. Losing tens of millions wouldn't cripple them? David was a super rich second-generation, but what about Matthew?
She looked at Matthew, wondering just how wealthy he was.
David slapped the white railing and said, "When have you ever misjudged a movie? Disney even lowered their cut to secure distribution rights!"
He glanced at the sea and added, "I didn't expect you to be into such cheesy romance novels."
Matthew shrugged. "I stumbled upon it by chance." He gestured towards Nina. "I found 'Twilight' at Nina's place. I thought it was interesting, especially the mix of a cheesy love story with werewolves and vampires."
"Nina," Matthew lightly patted the gymnast's arm, "I haven't thanked you yet."
David glanced at Nina Dobrev, commenting casually, "You're really something."
Flirting your way into a project, that's impressive.
Nina Dobrev, much like when Matthew first met her on set, smiled shyly.
"By the way," David brought up another topic, "do you remember going to the Kodak Theatre last year?"
Matthew knew he was referring to last year's Victoria's Secret show and nodded. "Yes, I remember."
David suggested, "Are you going this year? If so, let's go together."
Without hesitation, Matthew agreed, "Of course."
"Great," David said. "I'll get the tickets."
He suddenly slapped his forehead. "I almost forgot, Stephenie Meyer was looking for you earlier."
Matthew nodded. "I'll go find her."
With that, he and Nina Dobrev left, greeting Megan Ellison and Kathryn Bigelow briefly along the way.
As they departed, Matthew glanced at Kathryn Bigelow. She was not just tall and robust...
She wasn't fat, but her frame was naturally large, making Charlize Theron look petite by comparison. Next to Kathryn, Nina Dobrev looked like a slender reed.
Megan approached David.
"Do you trust him so much?" Megan asked bluntly.
David, initially confused, then smiled, understanding she meant Matthew. "Didn't you see '300'? Why not trust him?"
Megan scoffed, "He's just a reckless guy."
"Our dad was a reckless guy when he was young," David countered. "Who believed he would succeed? Matthew has achieved countless successes; I believe he will continue to do so."
Megan shook her head. "David, are you obsessed with Matthew Horner?"
She snorted. "If I didn't know your orientations, I'd think you two were a couple."
David glared at his sister, then said, "Enough about me. You're the one involved with Summit Entertainment, investing in Kathryn Bigelow's 'The Hurt Locker.' That's the real high risk."
Megan ignored his comment, instead warning, "I should remind you, Summit Entertainment isn't happy about you taking the 'Twilight' series rights from them."
"So what?" David retorted, showing his super-rich kid attitude. "What can they do to me and Matthew?"
Megan just shook her head. Summit Entertainment was a small company; they couldn't do much against someone like Matthew Horner or David Ellison.
Elsewhere, Stephenie Meyer finished her conversation with Matthew and left with a smile.
Watching her fiery red figure, Matthew knew similar situations would happen again. He'd need to discuss this with Sean Daniel and Sophia Coppola.
Stephenie Meyer had recommended an actress named Rachael Leigh Cook for the role of Alice Cullen, but Matthew couldn't just agree. If it were a smaller role, using the author's recommendation would be fine, but no one wanted to take unnecessary risks for a major role.
So, he only agreed to let Rachael Leigh Cook audition in the future.
These kinds of personal recommendations were common in Hollywood, especially since Stephenie Meyer was not well-versed in the industry and might be flattered into such suggestions.
The yacht reached the dock, marking the end of the small celebration party. Remembering Nina Dobrev's suggestion, Matthew left with her.
