The Reawakening Of the Clockwork Soverign

Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Power Through Numbers

The first snow of the season drifted in from the north, falling in soft, lazy spirals across the rooftops of Harthvale.

The village square was quiet. A strange tension in the air, as if the earth itself was holding its breath.

In the barn-turned-command hall, the Sovereign Protocol hummed steadily performing countless rapid scans and calculations. Steam hissed and whistled from the forge's core vents. Glowing wire circuits ran like blood vessels through the walls, pulsing in time with Leonhart's commands.

At the central terminal, maps of the surrounding unfolded in layers—each marked with enemy territories, shrine locations, and mana convergence nodes. Red for divine-aligned settlements. Blue for neutral. And green... for Sovereign-controlled zones.

On the map only Harthvale was green.

For now.

Leonhart's mechanical hand hovered over the interface. His voice, when it came, was quiet but focused.

"Rett," he said. "How many volunteers have come forward?"

Rett leaned against a nearby support beam, his newly forged armour clinking against the metallic beam softly as he stood crossing his arms. He looked more confident now-stronger not just in body, but in spirit.

"Thirty-two," he replied. "All of them healthy. Farmers, woodcutters, a few from the former guards. Two young mages, barely trained."

Leonhart raised an eyebrow, surprised by the amount. "And they're willing?"

"They saw what you did, lord", Rett said. "You protected them without asking for worship. You bled for them. You built defences to protect them. Fed the hungry without asking for anything in return. The people may not understand you, lord… but they trust you."

Leonhart looked toward the dimly lit barn doors.

"They don't need to understand us immediately," he murmured. "Not yet. Faith can be taught. But trust-"

"Trust can only be earned," Rett finished with a nod. He too believed in his lord's ideals because of which he decided to offer his whole being to his lord.

Leonhart turned back to the Sovereign console and issued the next command.

[Order Confirmed: Begin Mass Production – Mechanical Infantry Mk I][Processing Conversion Chambers: Active][Material Yield Rate: 72% Efficiency][Estimated Time to Completion: 5 Hours – 20 Units]

Gears turned in the mechanical forge, rumbling and rattling the barn as if a slumbering beast came to life. Golden sparks flew as the psitons hammered the glowing hot metals into shape.

From the back of the barn, platforms lowered into the forge's sub-chamber. Reclaimed metals, bones from slain bandits, and processed faith residue fed into the machines. What emerged were shells of soldiers gleaming with silver metallic lustre, waiting to be given purpose.

"Numbers are power," Leonhart said. "Wars are won by soldiers and collaboration. Not just brute force. A network. A system. Obedience without doubt."

Rett walked over to one of the forming units, their shells still hot from the forge. "They follow without question."

"They follow without fear," Leonhart corrected.

Suddenly, a knock echoed through the barn.

Arel Thorne entered through the door, hat removed, his expression drawn but respectful. Behind him stood a girl-no older than sixteen, her eyes alight with energy and innocent curiosity. She held a crude wooden staff in her hands topped with a copper ring.

"This is Nara," Arel said. "Daughter of the herbalist. She... wants to help."

"I can use magic," Nara said quickly, stepping forward with her head lowered. "Not much, but I can light fires. Heal small cuts. I've always wanted to be a priestess, but the church said that my talent was lacking and I wasn't 'pure' enough."

Leonhart studied her.

"Magic-at the core is just skill," he said. "Not morality. The system doesn't care about your talent or your shortcomings. If you're willing to learn, the Sovereign Protocol will make you more than the church ever could."

Her eyes widened with hope. "What do I have to do, lord?"

"Serve. Not me-but the system. Not like your previous false gods through blind faith, but the kingdom we're building through practice and understanding."

She hesitated for a moment, but then nodded quickly.

[New Volunteer Acquired: Initiate-Class Mage]

[System Recommendation: Begin Servo-Arcanist Conversion Process]

[Mana Core: Compatible – 87% Efficiency Potential]

Leonhart looked at Rett. "Her training will be left for you Rett. Light duty for now. Full conversion within the week."

"Aye," Rett said with a small smile. "She's brave."

"Just like you Rett. They'll need to be," Leonhart replied, a rare smile forming on his face only for a moment.

Outside, more villagers gathered at the Loyalty Altar. Some knelt. Others simply placed offerings of whatever they could offer- bread, tools, or even wood carvings. Not because they believed Leonhart was divine.

But because he had given them hope.

The first wave of Mechanical Infantry stood like statues around the perimeter-gleaming in the pale snowlight, unmoving until commanded. With each unit forged, Harthvale's defence strengthened, and it grew stronger. Its borders hardened now like an iron fortress on the inside with the cover of a primitive village. A hidden dagger built to overthrow the gods and reclaim the buried history of Leonhart's empire.

Inside the Sovereign's mind, a quiet hum ticked louder.

[Servitude Matrix: 8.3%]

[Faith Conversion in Region: 12%]

[Unlocked: Battalion-Level Command Protocol]

[New Tactical Option: Swarm Formation – Autonomous March]

That evening, Rett and Leonhart stood atop the village wall, looking out across the frost-covered fields shining white like the moon at night.

"Why do you fight, lord?" Rett asked suddenly. "You have this system with unprecedented knowledge, knowledge of the essence of this world... You could have stayed hidden. Lived in peace and silence. Let the world burn because of its blind faith and ignorance."

Leonhart didn't answer right away.

Then, with a slow breath, he said, "I came from a place where the world did burn. Because no one acted. Because people relied on myths and rituals to save them. I was given this system not just to survive-but to correct that mistake, to lead people towards a brighter future carved from facts and reasoning."

Rett nodded slowly. "You really believe you can replace the gods, lord?"

Leonhart turned to him, eyes glowing faintly in the dark.

"I don't want to replace them, if I did that then I would be no different than the ones who destroyed my empire and erased our history," he said. "I want to make them obsolete."

"No longer would our people believe in others for help and strength. I will teach you to carve power and understanding out of your own free will"

[Unit Count: 28]

[Servo-Arcanist Conversion: 2%]

[Next Objective: Capture Shrine at Windmere Hills]

The revolution was no longer just an idea.

It had begun to take shape and structure. It had numbers now.

And numbers, as the Sovereign well knew, could change the world.
