The Pinnacle of the Navy! Starting from Being Captured by Garp

Chapter 37: Chapter 37: Joining the Marines

On the returning Marine warship, in the medical bay.

The medical bay was filled with the smell of disinfectant. The walls were white, and the instruments flickered with a faint light. Rosinante, covered in bandages, lay quietly on the bed, his breathing weak but steady. Beside the bed, a young Law was趴 on the sheets, his small hands tightly gripping the corner of the blanket, his face still streaked with dried tears. He had fallen into a deep sleep, his long eyelashes trembling slightly, looking particularly fragile.

At the door, Roy stood quietly watching this scene, his gaze gentle, but a hint of complex emotion flashed in his eyes. He adjusted his cape and ultimately did not go in to disturb them. Instead, he gently closed the door, his movements so careful it was as if he were afraid of waking the tranquility in the room.

He turned and walked to the bow. The sea breeze howled, carrying a slightly salty smell. The morning light shone through the thin clouds onto the deck, as if draping the cold steel in a layer of warmth. Roy stood at the bow, his gaze deep as he looked at the skyline that was gradually being lit by the rising sun, as if he were contemplating something.

"What a touching scene~" a lazy voice suddenly sounded from behind him, with a hint of teasing. Kizaru had appeared beside him at some point, his hands in his pockets, his shoulders slightly shrugged, looking completely carefree.

Roy didn't turn around. "The Op-Op Fruit has already been eaten by Law."

Kizaru raised an eyebrow, a half-smile on his lips. "What a hassle That little kid is now a walking 5 billion Berries. He'll have to be careful when he goes out"

"So," Roy's voice was low and firm, "he must come back to the Marines with us."

Kizaru shrugged, as if he didn't care at all. "That kind of thing, you should go explain it to Fleet Admiral Sengoku. I don't want to get involved~" As he spoke, he had already turned into countless golden particles and drifted away with the morning breeze. Clearly, he had run off to slack off again.

Roy watched the light dissipate at the end of the deck, couldn't help but shake his head, and sighed helplessly.

Just then—

"Buru-buru-buru—"

The Transponder Snail in his pocket suddenly rang, its half-closed eyes opening, emitting a regular "buru-buru" sound. Roy looked down, took the snail in his palm, a glint in his eyes.

"Hello."

"Roy..." Sengoku's voice came from the other end, hoarse and tired, as if from a long night of work. Unlike his usual authority, his voice now held a hint of... gratitude?

"Fleet Admiral Sengoku," Roy's voice was calm, but his tone held a heartfelt respect.

The other end of the snail was silent for a moment, as if composing himself. Then, Sengoku took a deep breath, his voice low and sincere. "Thank you... for saving Rosinante."

Roy was taken aback for a moment, his eyes moving slightly. He then shook his head, his tone gentle but firm. "You're too kind, Fleet Admiral. It was my duty."

"No..." Sengoku's voice suddenly trembled, carrying a deep-seated emotion and guilt. "That child... is very important to me."

Roy didn't answer immediately, just listened quietly, as if he could feel the heartbeat and breathing from the other end of the snail. After a long while, Sengoku seemed to have composed himself and continued, "I've already heard about the Op-Op Fruit."

"Yes," Roy nodded, his brow slightly furrowed. "Law has eaten the Op-Op Fruit... His ability is now attractive to all factions."

The other end of the snail was silent for a long time, with only the sound of the wind whistling through the cracks in the bridge. Then, a deep sigh sounded. "Bring him back to Marineford. I will personally arrange for his subsequent protection."

"Understood." Roy gently closed his eyes, his gaze slowly lifting to the deck where the morning light was falling, a faint smile appearing on his lips.

When the first ray of morning sun shone through the porthole into the medical bay, it fell warmly and gently on the bed. The faint smell of disinfectant lingered in the air, so quiet it felt as if time had slowed down.

Rosinante slowly opened his eyes, squinting slightly, as if still adjusting to the light. He felt the soft bed beneath him and the bandages wrapped around his body, and he suddenly realized he was still alive. A faint sense of relief washed over him.

He slowly turned his head, his gaze falling on the small figure beside the bed—a young Law was趴 on the edge of his bed, sleeping soundly. The boy's little face was buried in the sheets, slightly red, his long eyelashes fluttering like a butterfly's wings. One small hand was still tightly gripping the corner of his blanket, as if afraid of losing him upon waking.

Rosinante was slightly taken aback, then a smile unconsciously appeared on his lips, a hint of gentleness and affection in his eyes. "Has this kid been watching over me all this time?"

As if sensing his gaze, Law's eyelashes trembled slightly, and he slowly opened his eyes. When he saw the familiar and warm figure before him, his golden pupils instantly widened. Tears welled up in his eyes and immediately began to fall.

"Mr. Cora—!" Law threw himself into Rosinante's arms, his hands clinging tightly to his neck, his cries full of the relief and fear of having almost lost him. "I thought... I thought you would never wake up..."

"Hiss! Oww, oww, oww—" Rosinante was squeezed so tightly he gasped, but he still chuckled and ruffled Law's hair, his voice full of fond amusement. "You brat, be a little gentler... I'm a seriously injured person right now."

Hearing this, Law quickly let go and hurriedly wiped the tears from his face. His little face was slightly red from the tension and joy, but he couldn't suppress the smile on his lips anymore.

Around noon, the door to the medical bay opened silently. Roy stood at the door, holding two trays of hot lunch, leaning leisurely against the doorframe, a gentle smile on his face as he looked at the two who were happily chatting on the bed.

"Looks like you're recovering well, Rosinante."

Rosinante and Law both turned their heads. Seeing who it was, Rosinante subconsciously tried to sit up and salute. "Rear Admiral Roy—"

"Don't bother." Roy raised his hand to signal him to lie down, walked into the room, and placed the trays on the bedside table. "Your lunch. Eat it while it's hot." The trays held a sumptuous and exquisite Marine meal, the meat soup smelling so tempting it made one's mouth water.

Rosinante looked at the two trays and scratched his head in embarrassment. "Thank you... If it weren't for you, we probably..."

Roy pulled over a chair and sat down, his gaze calm yet reassuring. "It was my duty."

The room was quiet for a moment. Law kept staring at Roy, a complex and awestruck expression in his eyes. "This person... is the one even the powerful Doflamingo could only flee from? Mr. Cora is alive because of him."

After a moment of silence, Rosinante finally asked, "I hear... you let Doflamingo go?"

Roy turned to look at him and nodded lightly. "Yes, in exchange for all their family's resources and intelligence."

Hearing this, Rosinante's mouth twitched slightly, his expression complex and conflicted. "I understand your considerations... it's just that that man, he'll probably..."

Roy raised his hand slightly to interrupt him, his voice low and calm. "I know, but some things can't be completely resolved right now."

Rosinante was slightly taken aback for a moment, then sighed with a wry smile. "You're right... no matter what, he is still my brother. As much as I hate him, my heart is still a little complicated..."

Roy was silent for a moment, then looked at the young Law, his gaze serious. "Fleet Admiral Sengoku has already made arrangements. Law will return to Marineford with us and receive systematic training."

Rosinante smiled slightly and exchanged a look with Law, as if the two had already reached some kind of unspoken agreement. "I have no objection." Rosinante's voice was gentle but firm. He looked down at Law. "Kid, what about you?"

Law clenched his small fists tightly, his eyes burning with fighting spirit. "I will definitely get stronger, so strong... that I will never let anyone important to me get hurt again."

Roy quietly looked at this tender yet determined boy, a hint of approval in his eyes. "Very good."

In the afternoon, the warship continued to sail steadily towards Marineford. Rosinante leaned against the window by his bed, looking out at the vast and azure sea, a smile of emotion and relief on his face. Law stood quietly beside him, looking out at the distance.

And at the bow, Roy stood there quietly. "The rest of the road... is up to you to walk."

Looking at the endless sea, a faint smile appeared on his lips—"But, with me here, at least I won't let you get hurt so easily."

The sea breeze howled, the sun was bright, and the warship sailed steadily towards hope.
