Chapter 30: Chapter 29: Campfire Whispers
Saturday Morning – 6:45 AM
The street outside their apartment was unusually lively. Cars lined the curb, kids in backpacks chattered beside their parents, and school vans honked as they pulled up.
Ava stood by the door, bag packed, practically buzzing with energy.
"You're sure you packed everything?" Raven asked, zipping up his own plain black duffel.
"Yes."
"Bug spray?"
"Double yes."
"Your toothbrush?"
"I'm not a child," she huffed.
Sol walked past in a navy windbreaker, holding a packet of protein bars. "You forgot your journal."
"…Okay, maybe a little bit of a child."
They stepped outside into the early morning sun, greeted instantly by a busload of students and guardians already arriving at the school gate.

At School
As the trio approached the schoolyard, a wave of silence briefly fell over the students—especially the girls.
Gasps. Whispers. Stares.
"Who are they?"
"That tall one with the silver eyes…"
"No way they're Ava's brothers… she's so lucky."
Raven adjusted his hoodie, already sensing trouble.
Ms. Hanami, clipboard in hand, waved them over. "Ava! Over here!"
Ava pulled them forward proudly.
"Sensei, these are my elder brothers. That's Raven, and this is Sol."
Ms. Hanami blinked at the two towering, sharp-jawed figures standing beside Ava like mismatched bodyguards. "Ah… I see."
Before another word could be said, a group of girls surrounded them.
"Do you guys have girlfriends?"
"Can I get your number?"
"Are you Ava's real brothers? You don't look alike—wait, are you adopted?!"
Sol blinked at them, then turned to Ava. "Are all school environments this… intense?"
Raven crossed his arms, unmoved. "Not interested."
Sol nodded. "Hard pass."
The girls pouted but didn't back down.
Meanwhile, the boys on the other side of the courtyard watched in jealousy and defeat.
"Great, now we don't stand a chance…"
"They're not even trying."
"I think one of them just rejected Sakura… with a look!"
Ava giggled to herself, loving every moment.

Bus Ride – 9:00 AM
They boarded the buses, and as expected, Raven and Sol were given VIP attention by the teachers ("Please sit at the front, we want to keep an eye on the students near you") and glares from the boys ("Please fall off the bus").
Ava sat between them, headphones in, scribbling away in her journal with a giant grin on her face.
Ms. Hanami, walking down the aisle, smiled. "You three seem close."
Sol replied, "We're family. That's all that matters."
The bus engine roared, the wheels turned, and as the city melted into forests and lakes, Ava leaned her head on Raven's arm.
"Thanks for coming," she whispered.
Raven looked out the window, the sun catching in his eyes.
"…Wouldn't miss it."
