The Mind-Reading Mate: Why Is the Lycan King So Obsessed With Me?!

Chapter 292: Just One Favor

Besides that, how did that person know everything about Primrose? Had they performed some kind of ritual to find a compatible vessel? Or had they been watching her long before she was even aware of it?

The thought sent an uncomfortable chill down her spine.

Now she wondered … was that person close to her?

"Maybe … maybe my ability didn't come from that third possibility. Maybe it really is a blessing from the heavens," said Primrose.

Leofric shook his head. "Where you got that power from doesn't matter, Your Majesty. Even if you inherited that ability through your bloodline, the heavens would still believe you must go through a heavenly trial."

Primrose's shoulders sank. She suddenly felt hopeless, thinking she might die just as quickly as she had in her past life.

What if one day, while she was simply taking a walk with Edmund, lightning struck her dead on the spot, leaving her husband standing there, holding her lifeless body?

The image made her stomach twist. She could almost see the look on Edmund's face, the way his hands would shake, the way his voice would break when he called her name … and she hated it.

Damn it! She needed to erase that image from her head right now!

Just as she was teetering on the edge of despair, Leofric suddenly said, "But … there is something I have that could keep the heavens from sensing the mind-control ability in your body."

Primrose stopped pacing and immediately strode toward Leofric, her eyes locked on him. "What is it? Tell me."

"Relax, Your Majesty." Leofric leaned back slightly, putting a bit of space between them. "I'm not going anywhere."

Primrose let out a heavy sigh and suddenly realized that something as valuable as what he was talking about could never come for nothing.

Leofric might be Edmund's one and only close friend, and sure, they seemed to have a good relationship. However, friendship meant nothing when it came to something as rare and dangerous as this.

Her eyes narrowed. "Alright, Leofric … what do you want in return?"

Leofric gasped, looking shocked, but Primrose could clearly tell it was nothing more than cheap acting. "Your Majesty, how could you think I'm that kind of lowly person? I have served this kingdom for years. Of course, I'd be willing to do anything for my Queen."

Primrose stared at him with a flat expression. "Then I'm not giving you any—"

"Alright, if you insist," Leofric cut in smoothly, a small smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "I will ask for one thing in return."

Primrose narrowed her eyes. "What is it?"

"I want you to use your mind-control on someone," he said.

Primrose didn't react for a few moments, too stunned to respond. She hadn't even fully mastered her ability yet, and now Leofric was suddenly asking her to use it.

"On … who?" she asked hesitantly.

Leofric was still smiling as he looked at her, but there was something strange in his eyes. He didn't look happy at all, in fact, there was a flicker of sadness he seemed to be trying to hide behind that smile.

"My sister."

Primrose's eyes widened. "Y-you want me to use my mind-control ability on your sister?"

She hadn't even known Leofric had a sister.

Was his sister someone who had made him suffer in the past, and now he wanted revenge on her?

Primrose had used her ability to kill a few men before, but that was because she had been on the brink of death, and all of those men had done something unforgivable to her.

But Leofric's sister? That was entirely different.

Primrose had never met her, never even heard of her before. Even if she wanted to help Leofric get rid of some evil sister, Primrose wasn't sure she could bring herself to kill someone who had nothing to do with her at all.

More than that, wasn't his request basically the same as using her as a weapon?

She knew this would happen eventually, but she didn't expect it to happen so soon.

"Yes," Leofric finally said. "I want you to use your mind-control ability on my sister. Just one time, that's all."

Primrose swallowed hard. "I … I don't think I can kill someone without a reason."

Leofric chuckled. "Oh, don't worry. I'm not asking you to lead my sister to her death. Well, technically it might seem that way, but the words you'll say to her won't contain any malice at all."

Primrose tilted her head, feeling even more lost about where this conversation was heading.

What kind of harmless words could she say to someone … that would still somehow lead to their death?

She wanted to know what he was thinking, but unfortunately, she couldn't break through the magical barrier in his mind.

"What … exactly do you want me to do?" Primrose finally asked.

Leofric took a deep breath. His smile softened slightly as he spoke in an unusually gentle tone. "I want you to make her believe that… she is healthy."

"What?" Primrose blinked at him, unsure if she had heard correctly. "You … want me to make her believe she's healthy? That's it?"

"That's it," Leofric confirmed, his voice calm but laced with something heavy. "She's been ill for years. The healers have done everything they can, but nothing works anymore. Lately, she's … given up and started thinking the world is nothing but darkness."

"This request … isn't meant to make her believe she can survive longer." Leofric lowered his head, his smile finally disappearing completely from his face. "I just … want her to think she's healthy, so maybe … we can have fun one last time before her body withers away forever."

Primrose's lips parted, but no words came out.

She had expected Leofric to ask for something selfish, maybe even cruel, yet here he was, asking for something that sounded so heartbreakingly human.

For a brief moment, she saw no trace of the sly, sharp-tongued man who constantly teased her. Instead, she saw an older brother who was desperate to give his sister one last memory without pain, without fear, without the shadow of death looming over her.

Her throat tightened. "Leofric …" she murmured, unsure of what else to say.

He raised his head, his usual smirk nowhere to be found. "If you can do that for me, Your Majesty … then I'll give you what you need to hide your power from the heavens."
