Chapter 85: Can’t You Ever Just Talk Normally?
"So, did you want a weapon?" Tony asked, but Bane shook his head.
"Not to insult you, but I don't think that any of your weapons could handle me using them. I also have three astral soul weapons, so I don't really see the need for more. Especially since I probably can't store them in my body the same way as the others either," Bane explained, and Tony nodded.
"So you are just coming to compare shops?"
Bane shrugged. "If I am honest, this was Lysia's idea. I had no intentions of coming here. Nothing against you, but I like my dirty shops and asshole proprietors."
"You are such a jerk," Lysia growled, and Tony smiled, and then laughed.
"You two are funny, you are engaged, right?" Tony asked, and Lysia blushed a bit, but Bane nodded.
"Yeah, crazy, right?" Bane said with a grin, and Tony nodded.
"I will not argue with that. Still, since you are here... I wonder... Would you like to look at my personal collection?" Tony asked slowly, suddenly seeming uneasy, and not looking at Lysia.
"Oh, you have got to be kidding me! You too?! Do all blacksmiths hoard their weapons during wars?!" Lysia snapped, but Bane patted her head.
"They are prideful people, and even if Tony is a nice guy, I am sure there are some things that he doesn't want to just be given away. I mean, would the people during the war care and take care of the weapons? Or would they just get thrown in a barrel? Maybe stacked on a wrack haphazardly? Do you understand what I mean now?" Bane asked, and Lysia let out a sigh.
"Whatever, the war is over, so there is no point in getting angry about it. I still don't understand why keeping weapons is more important than helping to save lives, but I will drop it," she growled, but Bane put his arm around her and pulled her into his side.
"That is because not everyone gives a shit about random people. While there are reasons why people fight wars, it's hardly ever the reason why people fight in wars. Wars are never fought by the people that start them, or they weren't where I came from. Maybe this world is different, but there will always be people that are indifferent to things unless they are knocking at the door," Bane explained, then gave her a kiss on the top of her head. "You are a good person, but I can assure you that the vast majority are not, and the reason I know is because I am one of those people."
"So, should we look or not?" Tony asked, and Bane nodded.
"Lead the way," Bane said, then turned to follow the blacksmith, dragging Lysia along with him, but she didn't complain.
After a moment, they were led into a room filled with weapon racks and display cases. On the far wall was a massive rack filled with axes, swords, and spears. To the left were several cases, filled with daggers, throwing knives, and a bunch of other small weapons. The place was not as lavish as Barrock's backroom, but Bane noticed a few weapons that were of high quality.
"So? What do you think? Are these better?" Tony asked, and Bane let go of Lysia and walked over to what he assumed to be the best weapon.
It was a two handed greatsword with a blood red blade. On the blade, a dragon was etched, and the hilt was carved with a phoenix. The cross guard had a pair of dragon heads facing outward, and the pummel was a silver ball with a dragon claw gripping a blue orb.
"This is a nice blade," Bane said, and then picked it up with one hand. He hefted it in his hand, noticing that the blade was actually very heavy. Even with his strength, Bane didn't think he could swing the sword for more than a minute.
"Are you okay, Tony?" Bane heard Lysia ask the shop owner, and Bane turned around to see a startled look on his face.
"You can lift that?"
"Tis what I am doing, is it not?" Bane retorted with a regal tone, but the humor was lost on Tony, who could just nod along. Noticing this, Bane looked at Lysia. "Do you want to try holding it?"
Lysia frowned, and looked at Tony again. "Isn't this the one that you made for Bilgarth, but he said it was too heavy? He told me about it awhile back, but I didn't know what it looked like."
Tony nodded, not saying anything, and Lysia sighed. "I don't think I could lift it then. If it gave Bilgarth trouble, then I would probably have to struggle, and I have no reason to prove anything. A more reasonable question is how you are already strong enough to lift it? You were just barely able to beat me a couple days ago, yet you have grown this much?"
Bane snorted. "Yeah, all thanks to Nina's continued attempts to kill me, I mean train me, and shitting my entire existence out. Really does wonders for your constitution."
Tony and Lysia laughed at his comment, and the shop owner stepped forward.
"It was an honor meeting you, and seeing the weapon I have been working on for the last decade wielded with ease by another person. Since I don't know another person strong enough to wield it, I would be honored if you took it. After all, it was meant to be a gift, but since I went overboard, the original recipient did not want it, I would like to see it go to a good home."
Bane thought about it, and looked at the blade, and then turned it over. He ran his finger over the phoenix and the dragon, and then smiled. "Alright, if you insist. I just don't know where I can put the thing."
"We can go see Madam Dory after this. She sells storage items," Lysia said, and Bane's eyebrows lifted in surprise.
"Oh? Really? I need to have another round with Master Toothpick in the basement, and I want to bug him about Nina. She clearly has a bug up her ass, so I had best figure out how to get it out without having to shove my hand up there," Bane said and Lysia looked mortified.
"Can't you ever just talk normally? Why do you always have to say it in such a weird way?! Now I have a mental image of you elbow deep in... ugh! You are the worst!"
"Yeah, but you love me. Anyways, since we have a destination, and a place to put the blade, is there anything else you want to do, or are we heading out?"
"Yes, we can go. I was only going to stop in and say hi," Lysia replied, and Bane looked at Tony.
"Thanks for the gift. I will try to take care of it."
Tony nodded, and bowed deeply. "I look forward to seeing the stories surrounding you in the future."
"Meh, probably nothing special. It is unlikely the story of the idiot that was killed by his fiancé is going to become a legend," Bane said, making Tony laugh.
