Chapter 18: A welcome surprise
Despite her weakened state due to recent events, Sete was still a deity. As a result, the heavy impact against the concrete didn't cause any serious injuries, just a few painful scratches and bruises.
She used the wall she had been thrown into to support herself, slowly getting up, half out of breath. Spring certainly wasn't used to pain.
The leader of the servants of the End was the only one of the monsters left, and he was getting closer and closer to Sete. Just under a meter away from the girl, the distorted shadow stopped and raised its long arm to deliver a fatal blow.
— YOUR DESTINY IS TO CEASE TO EXIST, SPRING, KE-KE-KE-KE. — The creature's deep-set eyes rolled excitedly as its gurgling voice spread through Ousbury. — SERVE MY LORD WELL AND BE GONE-
The servant of the End was interrupted by a sudden gale, forming a whirlwind of dust and gray leaves in the middle of the street.
Momentarily distracted by the unusual event, the monster turned its back on Sete. Even with the dizziness caused by the excessive use of powers, the young deity quickly summoned a dagger from a nearby weed stem. The weapon was small, but deadly.
Then, stealthily and swiftly, she drove the vegetable blade between the shadow's ribs, hitting a vital spot. The monster squirmed and turned towards the girl, trying to attack once more. However, its limbs were already starting to disappear.
Before dissolving completely into black smoke, the creature turned its twisted head and faced Sete.
— KE-KE-K... — The servant of the End disappeared while laughing.
Exhausted, Spring let herself lean back against the dilapidated wall and slid down until she was sitting on the floor. Her vision was blurred, but before she lost consciousness she noticed two human silhouettes emerging from inside one of the abandoned buildings and slowly approaching Kai, the only one of the trio who remained awake.
Sete tried to keep her eyes open, she had to keep protecting the boys. However, she exhausted the last of her strength and fainted.

The young deity gradually woke up. Her head throbbed with pain as she tried to open her eyes. Sete was lying on a narrow iron-framed bed, completely exhausted.
She noticed that the boys weren't in the room, but she could hear some voices talking in the background, probably in another room. Among them, Spring recognized Kai's laughter and Thomas' rational tone.
A sharp sound of bells interrupted her train of thought. It was a notification from Vez:
"Congratulations, you have met the requirements to receive rewards for the achievements [Looting Servants of Corruption] and [Purification Begins]!" — The girl didn't have much of a reaction, which left the System a little disappointed. — "You received 160 coins from the seed store. And for protecting the heirs of the Deities once again, I'll be rewarding you with 2% divinity!"
Sete felt that her injuries no longer hurt as much, and noticed that her strength was returning a little more quickly than before. It seemed that regaining divinity had a direct influence on restoring her physical stamina and the energy to use her powers.
With a little more confidence, Spring tried to get up, but all she managed to do was roll around on the thin mattress. The old bed frame creaked with her movements, and she noticed that the distant voices fell silent.
After a few more attempts, the little deity finally managed to sit up with her back against the headboard. Her movements, of course, caused several creaks in the metal bed frame. Perhaps that's why the people in the other room realized that she had woken up. After all, the next moment, cautious footsteps approached the room's worn wooden door.
The person standing on the other side of the door hesitated before knocking, indicating that they were about to enter.
