Chapter 174: Destruction
Upon seeing Kai return to the fort with all of the missing people, everyone rushed to see how they were doing. He explained what he saw and the demons who were there, telling them what they looked like.
"I also destroyed the place, so if you felt a shockwave or heard a loud boom, then that was me." He informed them.
"Kai! Thank Gracia, you're okay." Janna hugged him.
"I'm sure she just sat back and watched, but yeah, thank her, I guess."
"Did you find out the reason why they were captured?" Kirlia asked as she scanned the crowd to find her husband.
"Yup. They were using them as an energy source to summon the demon king, like I suspected. But I stopped it before it could finish." The smile on his face faded as he felt a disgusting wave of energy pulse through the air, darkening the sky and causing the clouds to crackle with purple lightning.
"Are you sure about that?!" Janna asked, stepping back as fear crept up her body.
"W-What's that?!"
"I-Is the world coming to an end?!"
"This energy! It makes me want to vomit!"
Soldiers struggled to keep calm as the disgusting energy crept up their bodies. Their minds went crazy, and their worst fears started to run wild in their head.
"Aghhh! Run away!"
"We're gonna die!"
Kai squinted his eyes at the swirling storm that was approaching the fort at supersonic speeds. At first, he thought there was a person inside the storm, coming at them with the intent of destroying the fort and killing everyone there.
But when he looked a bit closer, he saw that it was simply a wave of energy produced by whatever caused the sky to run wild.
Thinking quickly, Kai placed a barrier around the entire fort. He wasn't expecting the energy wave to be that destructive, but it was best to still be cautious. Thankfully, he opted to do this because when the wave touched his barrier, it nearly shattered.
"What the hell?!" Kai went full power, not holding anything back as he fortified his barrier with more mana. The cracks vanished, and the energy wave passed by as if nothing had happened. But what happened outside of the barrier shocked everyone to the core.
As far as the eye could see, and as far as the energy wave traveled, there was nothing but death and destruction. The grass, plants, trees, animals, bugs, and anything that was alive were now dead. The only remnant of their existence was bones from animals, or the hole where trees once were.
But that wasn't all. The darkened sky now flashed red, and space warped around like crazy. Mountains toppled, and the land was made flat as anything that stood tall was vaporized.
"W-What was that?!" Janna could barely believe her eyes. She just witnessed a powerful energy wave effortlessly destroy everything in its path. She was so grateful that Kai was here to protect them.
The power was so intense that Kai could feel his hand shaking. The only time he had ever felt this way was when he fought Dante.
'No way, right? It can't be! I destroyed the place!'
Then, before he knew it, the church of Gracia arrived on flying chariots pulled by horses with wings.
"Kai! Thank Gracia, you're here!" Celeste sighed with relief as she descended from the sky.
"Sup, pal." Horith landed on his feet and patted Kai on the back. "I see you beat us to him first."
"Him?" Kai asked
"The demon king."
Everyone froze. They knew the wave of energy was powerful, more powerful than anything they felt, but to think it came from the demon king, some of them nearly passed out after hearing that.
"But I stopped the process," Kai explained what happened and what he learned.
"Seems like he had enough energy to still break through the boundary that separated the demon world and the mortal world. No worries, though, we're both here, and we have Saintess Celeste." Horith was confident in their abilities.
"Yeah." Kai wasn't scared. He was more than confident in his abilities. He was more surprised than anything.
"We'll have to wait for him to fully emerge. For now, we should focus on getting all these people who cannot fight to a safe place. That might take some time so-"
Kai waved his hand, and everyone who wasn't able to fight was teleported away to the capital. As for Kirlia and Janna, he teleported them back to their home. Luckily for him, they found Ian, so he was able to teleport him with them as well.
"Or you can do that, sweet."
Celeste walked over to Kai. "Listen closely. The demon King isn't like normal demons. Every power that a demon has, he has them as well, and it's way more powerful. This doesn't even include the unique abilities he has on his own. To face him, you and Horith will need to be in sync, and I'll be giving my support. The soldiers, superpowers, and the members of the church of Gracia will also handle the monsters the demon king sends out."
Speaking of the church members, Kai noticed that their forces were a lot smaller than he had realized.
"Are these all of your men?" While there were still hundreds of them, he expected more.
Celeste shook her head. "No. We have thousands of troops, but the continent will be attacked from all sides, so we spread out our forces to help all over. The same thing is being done with the royal military, and even local hunters, mercenaries, and adventurer Guilds are stepping up to aid in this battle."
"I see." Since Kai was needed here, he sent a clone back to the Academy to check up on his girls, including the ones he planned on adding to his extended harem.
"Get ready, everyone, the battle that will determine the fate of the continent will begin now."
A wave of demonic beasts materialized from the disgusting energy that centered around the mountain Kai had blown up.
These beasts were even more vicious and ferocious than the ones he faced in the Scarred Valley. But to him, they were nothing but easy targets for him to kill.
