Chapter 166: Deserter
Lissana braced herself for the oncoming lightning spell Amaya summoned. She crossed her arms, and a barrier formed around her body.
"That weak shit isn't going to save you!" The lightning bolt merged with her hand, making a lightning fist, and Amaya shattered the barrier with one punch while sending Lissana skidding backward.
"Eughh!"
Amaya dashed behind Lissana, her sword ready to cut her down, but Lissana reacted in time.
"Hah!" Bolts of pure mana were fired from a magic circle on her hand, each of them having enough power to critically injure a person, but Ayama avoided with with ease, cutting through the ones that came too close.
"Tch, what a nimble bitch!" Pressing both hands to the ground, Lissana forced the terrain to change using earth magic. The ground shifted, shaking like an earthquake, spikes shot upward, and the ground split apart.
Amaya leaped to the side to avoid the spikes. She concentrated mana on her feet to keep herself upright, and she leaped over the splitting earth.
"S-Shit!" Lissana flung one hand upward, and the ground rose up high, and in her other hand, she prepared a fire spell.
Amaya easily tore down the earth wall, but Lissana expected that, so when she was in sight, Lissana cast her fire spell.
"You'll learn not to mess with me ever again! [Flame Vortex]" A massive spiraling flame blasted in Amaya's direction, and the heat it gave off was enough to melt stone.
Amaya wasn't worried about the spell at all. She was more powerful than Lissana, and no spell she used would harm her. So, instead of blocking or avoiding the flames, she spun right through while using wind to coat her body and dispel the flame spell.
"I-Impossible!" That was all Lissana was able to say before Amaya clobbered her in the face, kneed her in the stomach, then aimed her sword at her throat.
"Amaya! That's enough!" Janna shouted as she finally caught up with them.
"Tsk, lucky bastard." Amaya sheathed her blade and walked away.
By this point, hundreds of students had seen the fight and were utterly shocked. Lissana was one of the most skilled and intelligent people in the school, yet Amaya handled her like she was nothing.
Sure, Lissana wasn't going all out, but neither was Amaya.
That day, Lissana's image dropped significantly. Still, people didn't dare say anything about it, because even though she lost badly, she was still the daughter of a duke, and one wrong move could get most of them killed if she wanted to be petty.
'I'll never forget this humiliation!' Lissana stood up and stormed off.
---
"And that's what happened!" Amaya said with a happy expression as she purred on Kai's shoulder.
"Wow, that's freaking awesome."
Kai had approached her after learning she was the one who beat up Lissana. Amaya was more than happy to explain everything. She might have exaggerated things here and there, but the overall story was the truth.
"Wait, so you joined the Disciplinary Committee? That's honestly surprising. I expected you to join the swordsmanship club or something like that."
"Meh, I planned to, but when I learned how frequent fights happened here, I knew I had to join the Disciplinary Committee. They are one of the few clubs that meet every day, so I always have something to do as well. It's really fun!"
"Haha, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself."
"I am! It's great! You should join it too!"
"Heh, nah, I'm good. I already joined a club."
"What kind of club?" Amaya wondered, now lying on his lap.
"The fun kind."
She scoffed. "I bet you're just having sex."
Kai nearly choked on his own saliva. "N-No! We meditate and circulate our energies!"
"Oh, that does seem fun!"
'Phew, safe.'
"Okay, I have to go now, Disciplinary Committee duties. I'll see you later." Amaya waved Kai off and ran away.
"Bye." He sighed, leaning back in his chair, looking up at the ceiling. "I really thought this place would be fun. It's barely been a week, and I'm already losing interest in it. Oh well, I'll tough it out until the Demon King arrives."
---
After Kai got out of his second class, he wandered the school campus, taking in the sights, enjoying the vibes, and taking a few girls to the side here and there to have...fun.
When he reached the courtyard, he saw Janna sitting on a bench, looking down. Normally, she would be in high spirits, protroling the school, but now, it looked as if her whole world came crashing down.
"Hey, Janna. You don't seem to be doing well." He sat down next to her and placed his arm around her shoulder.
"Oh, hey, Kai."
"Wanna talk about what's bothering you?"
She sighed heavily and placed her head on his arm. "It's my home. My mother sent me a letter saying that my father has been accused of desertion. Our home could be taken away, and we'd be stripped of our status."
"Wait, there's a war going on or something?"
"Huh? You don't know?"
"Know what?"
"The Cult of Demons has been attacking the kingdom for the past few months. My father is on the front lines fighting them, or was, I guess. This is a part of the reason why I wanted to join the Rolimont Hero Academy."
"Hmmm. So your father was accused of being a deserter, but you don't think he is one, right?"
"Of course not! My father is an honorable man! He would never do such a thing! Our family descends from a long line of knights. It's in our blood to fight and defend the kingdom!"
Kai smiled. "Okay. Let's go find him then."
Janna's eyes lit up with excitement. "Really? How would we do that, though?"
"First, we should visit your home and get all the information from your mother. After that, we will use what she gave us to find clues that will lead us to the truth."
"Okay! I'm in! Just one problem. It will take at least a month, if not longer, to get to my home."
Kai smirked. "Not a problem. Do you remember where your home is?"
"Of course. How could I forget?"
"Great!" Kai read her mind, locating the image in her head of her home. Then, he grabbed her arm.
"Hold on tight, you might puke after experiencing this."
"Huh? Experiencing WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!"
He teleported them both to her family estate.
