Chapter 138- Extremely Selfish
While Sol sat cross-legged on the library's dusty floor, he placed his hands together in his lap and formed a circle with his thumbs.
His shirt was still removed, his chest moving up and down while he breathed steadily.
The Legacy Rune on the back of his right hand was faintly flashing. Meanwhile, on his back, an outline of it was beginning to appear, overlapping with the Seven Runic Paths of Samsara Formation.
Sol's hair blocked a portion of the Formation, but the process could still be seen clearly.
The blue lines of the Legacy Rune formed a circle in the center of the black heptagon Samsara Formation. The numerous runic patterns that were in the center of the Samsara Formation shifted to accommodate the Legacy Rune.
The overlapping process was slow, but it was extremely smooth.
At the ten-minute mark, a miniature version of the Samsara Formation started to appear on Sol's left hand.
This was no longer his Master's Seven Runic Paths of Samsara Formation, nor was it Su Moon's Heavenly Canopy Grand Formation.
This was Sol's Heavenly Samsara Formation.
As the creation of this new Formation was reaching its peak, the Heavenly Canopy Grand Formation around the palace began to react to the changes.
The Formation appeared on the ground and the walls of the library in a multitude of small complex blue runes.
Little Abdu was observing this silently while he sat at a specific table, but when he heard the sound of a child laughing, he suddenly felt gutted.
Right after the child's laughter echoed out, blue illusory images of a boy and a cat suddenly walked into the library.
The boy's intricate robes looked like they were fit for royalty. His appearance and demeanor were quite striking as well.
He looked around fifteen or sixteen and had long black hair with soft but define features.
His smile seemed infectious, but a simple glance at him would tell you that this child was extraordinary.
The child's laughter was perhaps a result of the cat walking next to him.
It was Little Abdu, and thus the child could be deduced to be Su Jin.
Little Abdu watched in silence as the boy chased after his illusory version. He seemed happy, but Little Abdu knew now this was Su Jin acting for his sake.
He was suffering in silence. Fed up with being trapped in here, but at the same time terrified of going outside.
It was a contrasting feeling that was eating away at his mental health.
Slowly, the illusory scenes faded to be replaced by an older Su Jin. He was laughing, but compared to his laughter from before, it felt different; almost forced.
As if knowing the progression of these illusory scenes, Little Abdu wanted to look away, but he couldn't. It was torture to watch them, but he really couldn't look away. This might be the last time he saw them.
The illusory scenes faded one by one, and each time Su Jin grew older and older.
This was the only change in these images except for the fact that Su Jin was no longer laughing. He would give forced smiles here and there, but after a while, he stopped smiling altogether.
Another change was the frequency Little Abdu was by his side when he entered the library.
Slowly Little Abdu stopped accompanying Su Jin to the library.
Little Abdu looked to his left. Su Jin's illusory image was right next to him reading a book.
Suddenly, Little Abdu's past self came into the library for the first time in a long while. He leaped onto the table and sat exactly where the current Little Abdu was, causing their figures to overlap.
Su Jin turned to look at Little Abdu before he smiled and said something.
There was no sound as he spoke, but Little Abdu knew what he said. He remembered this memory very vividly, and what he responded.
"Don't worry, I'll still find time to come to our daily library visits."
Little Abdu was heard muttering under his breath.
Su Jin's smile grew wider, and this was unlike the others, it truly seemed like he was genuinely smiling for the first time.
"It's okay Little Nian, I know you're busy with the duties father once had. So don't feel bad for not being able to visit me."
Su Jin then raised his hand and patted the illusory Little Abdu's head, but because of the real Little Abdu's position, it seemed as if Su Jin was petting him instead.
Little Abdu closed his eyes, his heart feeling a flurry of complex emotions.
Soon, Su Jin stopped, and the illusory version of Little Abdu leapt off the table and walked out of the library.
Little Abdu looked at his past self and scolded.
"You idiot, look back."
Little Abdu watched his past self leave the library without ever looking back. If he had looked back, he would have seen the tears running down Su Jin's cheeks.
Little Abdu turned to look at Su Jin, who wiped his tears before going back to reading his book.
Time passed in the illusory scenes and Su Jin was seen alone reading in the library in each scene. Little Abdu never returned after that visit.
He would occasionally see Su Jin in the palace, but it was always brief.
In the last scene, Little Abdu watched Su Jin close the book he was reading and got up to leave the library.
The book remained there on the desk even after the illusory scenes faded away.
Little Abdu sighed.
That was it, those were some of the memories that were stored in the Heavenly Canopy Formation. These illusory scenes of Su Jin were likely shown everywhere in the palace during this time. But now they were gone, forever.
Little Abdu felt a mix of emotions.
In truth, he didn't go through with his plan because Sol's words convinced him not to.
They did play a small part, but it was due to the fact that he was scared, almost terrified even, of the possibility of losing Sol.
Sol reminded Little Abdu of Su Jin greatly. Their personalities were the same, their laughter was the same, and even how he was treated by them was exactly the same.
The possibility of Little Abdu's plan succeeding was close to zero. What if he had gone through with his original plan and it failed?
Not only would he have lost Su Jin, but he would have lost the one person who was so much like him.
Little Abdu didn't want to risk it, so he chose to let go of Su Jin.
It was extremely selfish of him to make this decision after what he did to Su Jin, but Little Abdu hoped that he would forgive him.
The blue runes covering the library's ground and walls soon faded away. Sol had successfully absorbed the Legacy Rune and merged it with the Samsara Formation.
Sol opened his eyes and turned to look at Little Abdu.
Even though he was focused on merging the two Formations, those memories were something he saw as he absorbed the Legacy Rune.
