Chapter 130- Making a Friend in an Unlikely Place
Sol gulped down a large lump of saliva before he got up. He resisted the urge to leave as this room was the reason he came to this haunted place to begin with.
It was Su Jin's room.
"But is this really his room? Did he do all of this?"
The room was about as big as Su Moon's office which was destroyed by the Ninan Beast.
There were two windows that were hanging off their hinges, while a few simple pieces of furniture decorated the room, a small bookshelf along with a desk and a chair near the window; all of them were mere splinters.
Strangely, there was no bed.
Sol walked to the only door in the room and opened it to find a simple washroom.
After exiting the washroom, Sol looked around the completely destroyed room before walking over to the wall where one of the words 'Get Out' was carved.
He used his fingers to trace over the marks.
"Just what had happened in here?"
As Sol was getting confused by why the room was like this and if Su Jin did it, he suddenly sensed a presence at the door behind that made so him immediately spun around in a panic.
Sol thought it was perhaps the ghost of Su Jin coming to get him for entering his room, but who, or rather 'what' Sol saw at the door was completely unexpected. It caused him to do a doubletake and stare with incredulity.
A cat was at the door.
Its fur was midnight black. If Sol wasn't a cultivator that could see in the dark somewhat, he would have missed this cat entirely.
The cat swaggered into the room under Sol's gaze, as if this place was its home. However, when it turned its head and saw Sol standing inside the room while staring at it, it froze.
It seemed as if the cat hadn't expected to see anyone, alive, or at least conscious, in this room.
The cat and Sol didn't make a move. It was as if they were observing the other expecting a reaction.
Sol instinctively checked his bracelet and felt it was still in the West Wing; he also didn't sense the Formation Array restrictions he set up in the main bedroom coming undone. He sighed a relief at this, but then focused his gaze back on this creature, his curiosity overflowing.
Sol had never seen this type of animal before. It resembled Little Zeel's miniature form quite a bit, but its features were different.
For one, Little Zeel's green fur was slightly longer and made him pleasant to rub. He also had round and chubby cheeks with two big emerald-green eyes that made him look even cuter.
This creature instead had short black fur that made its slender body seem as smooth as silk.
'It's not the same as Little Zeel's fur, but I bet it would be fun to pet.'
The creature also had a weak and delicate appearance that made one want to hold it and give it a few protective cuddles. However, if Little Zeel was chubby and lovable, this creature was dignified and aloof, making one get the sense that it disdain being touched.
Nonetheless, Sol had the urge to pet this creature. Its golden vertical pupils seemed as if they were calling for him to do so. The urge became so strong that he took a step forward.
Unbeknownst to Sol, his breathing had become ragged and his gaze intense. This scared the cat, and it took a step back as if it was about to turn and run back through the door.
"Ah, wait! Here…"
Sol suddenly slapped his storage bag and took out a dakkochi he had gotten from Mar-Dule.
After taking off a single piece of meat he placed the rest back into his storage bag.
The aroma of the meat immediately drifted over to the cat, and it stopped in its tracks.
Sol knelt down on the ground to look as small as possible.
"It's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you or anything. Just—Just let me pet you."
Sol's breathing became more ragged.
Perhaps his first impression of Little Zeel and Little Nheer had caused him to develop a fondness for small Spiritual Beasts. He thought they made great campions. Also, Little Zeel could use a friend.
However, Sol found something rather peculiar about this creature.
'Strange. It doesn't seem to be a Spirit Beast. I don't sense any cultivation aura from it.'
As Sol thought this, the cat seemed to have been persuaded by the meat dangling between Sol's hands. It turned and slowly walked over him.
It would pause and stare at him with hesitation a few times, but with the patience of a saint, Sol remain where he was not moving. Finally, his patience won the cat over as it came up and lightly took the meat from between his fingers.
Sol watched as it ate the meat before he reached out and petted its head. He felt the cat's body twitch under his palm, but it eventually relaxed and allowed Sol to pet it.
This caused an explosion of euphoria to erupt in his heart.
"Little Zeel is going to be happy when he sees you."
Sol said excitedly.
Suddenly, the cat looked up at Sol and tilted its cute head.
"Meow…"
Sol froze when he heard that. Even the sound it made felt like it was tickling the deepest recess of his ears and bringing him a warm, comforting sensation.
However, Sol soon snapped out of his dazed state and looked at the cat.
"Do you want more?"
"Meow."
"Ah, okay, okay. These are for Little Zeel when he wakes up from his naps, but I hope he wouldn't mind me giving them to you."
Sol then took out the remaining dakkochi and feed the pieces of meat to the cat one by one.
After it was done eating, the cat meowed and walked closer to Sol. It then began rubbing itself against his foot.
Sol didn't understand what it was doing at first, but then he figured it saw him as a friend now.
Sol grinned from ear to ear before he picked up the cat and carried it in his arms like he would a baby.
Sol rubbed its belly as he walked around to examine the room some more. He wasn't so freaked out by everything anymore now that he made a friend in this unlikely place.
However, something was still bothering Sol. He was sure he saw something in the hallway.
The person's features were distorted, but he was sure from his side profile, it was that of a man.
