The Grim Fate of Those Who Arouse the Wrath of the Most Dreaded Marquis

Chapter 31

Chapter 31: Leon and Fiona’s Unhappy Newlywed Life

“Leon… I might as well dispose of you too.”

Leon’s thoughts came to a complete halt at Lord Giorg’s words. No, to be precise, the emotion of fear filled his heart so completely that he couldn’t think of anything else.

“Well? How does it feel? How does it feel to have the parents you looked down on killed by me? And how does it feel to have your life and death in my hands?”

“Eek!! Please, have mercy!! Please!!”

Leon begged Giorg, rubbing his head against the ground, desperately pleading for Giorg’s mercy. The sight was too pitiful for words. But for Leon, the feeling of humiliation didn’t even register. All he felt was overwhelming terror. If it meant escaping this fear, rubbing his head on the ground was nothing.

“Hmph, how pathetic. Begging for your life from the man who killed your parents… I’ve never seen such a pitiful creature.”

Though Giorg’s contempt was blatant, Leon couldn’t stop his body from trembling. In the face of a natural disaster, all a person can do is pray for their own safety.

“Gazel, Almada, your son is a complete coward. He just trembles in front of the man who killed you, his hated enemy. Truly the son of trash.”

As Giorg finished speaking, Leon sensed two other presences besides Giorg’s.

(Huh? What? Who’s there?)

A sudden question arose in Leon’s heart amidst the fear. Trembling, he looked up and saw two pairs of feet standing beside Giorg.

“Leon, look up.”

At Giorg’s command, Leon immediately raised his head. He no longer had the strength to resist Giorg’s words. In fact, the very idea of defiance had completely vanished from his mind.

“Eek!!”

What Leon saw when he looked up were his supposedly dead parents, Gazel and Almada. Their eyes were hollow, dried blood clung to their lips, and their abdomens were stained with massive amounts of blood.

“Father!! Mother!! Eeeek!!”

Leon clutched his head at the sight of them.

“Leon, why didn’t you save us?”

“Leon, why didn’t you help us?”

Gazel and Almada’s voices were filled with hatred for Leon. Their icy, bone-chilling voices made Leon tremble with fear once more. He could only clutch his head and beg for mercy.

“Leon, look up.”

Giorg’s merciless voice rang out again. Leon couldn’t defy Giorg’s command. When he raised his head, his eyes met Gazel and Almada’s.

“Answer their questions.”

Giorg issued the cruel command.

“Eek!! P-please, forgive me!! Father, Mother!! I can’t defy Lord Giorg!! If I defy him, I’ll be killed like you were!! I don’t want to die like that!!”

“You…!!”

“What kind of child are you?!”

The moment Leon answered, Gazel and Almada lunged at him.

“Eeeek!! H-help me!!”

Gazel and Almada grabbed Leon and pinned him down with incredible strength. Leon tried to resist with all his might, but for some reason, he couldn’t muster any strength and was completely at their mercy.

“Aaaahhhh!!”

Leon screamed with all his might, unable to break free. But Gazel and Almada showed no signs of stopping. Instead, their hollow eyes only intensified his terror.

At that moment, Leon felt a powerful shake. It was a force entirely different from the one Gazel and Almada were using to pin him down.

“Aaaahhhh!!”

Leon screamed again.

Then, he found himself in his own bedroom.

“Haa… haa…”

Looking around, he saw Fiona’s exasperated expression.

“A dream…”

Realizing his situation, Leon let out a sigh of relief.

“Ugh!! Every night!! Every night!! Can’t you just stop already?!”

Fiona’s shrill voice pierced Leon’s ears. Her tone wasn’t one of concern for his nightmares but rather annoyance at being kept awake by his screams. To Leon, who was aware of this, Fiona’s exasperated face was utterly infuriating.

Following Giorg’s orders, Leon and Fiona had been forced to marry after the execution of Gazel and Almada. Both understood that this was a measure to ensure Giorg, as a Marquis, wouldn’t be disrespected. But unable to defy Giorg, they reluctantly married, and their newlywed life was far from sweet.

Fiona, once the daughter of a Count, had been disowned by the Serens family and was now a commoner. Leon, too, had been exiled from the House of Zarfing, making him a commoner as well. While it was a marriage between commoners, both had lived as nobles until recently, and their noble mindset hadn’t completely faded. This disconnect between their mindset and reality constantly stressed them out.

In such a situation, it was only natural that their marriage was far from harmonious. Arguments were a daily occurrence. But with Giorg’s strict order forbidding divorce, both were trapped, left to stew in their mutual resentment.

“It’s your parents’ fault my life is ruined!!”

“What?! You betrayed Giorg and sided with me too!!”

“Ugh, you’re so annoying!! Everything is your fault!!”

“What?! You should be grateful I even married a whore like you!!”

Leon immediately fired back at Fiona’s words, and despite the late hour, their marital spat escalated into a full-blown fight. Their faces twisted in ugly anger as they hurled insults at each other, a sight no one else should ever witness.

“I can’t take this anymore!! Why do I have to go through this?!”

“That’s my line!!”

After a round of mutual insults, they both turned away from each other.

The first time they fought, Leon had stormed out of the house, but before he could take ten steps, three men tackled him and dragged him back home. The men quietly warned Leon and Fiona, “Next time, we’ll kill you.”

This made them realize they were still under Giorg’s surveillance. Since then, no matter how heated their arguments got, neither Leon nor Fiona dared to leave the house. After all, Giorg had brutally executed Leon’s father and his wife. There was no way he’d show mercy to their son.

However, this was an overestimation of their own importance. Giorg had no direct involvement in this; it was the subordinates acting on their own. In fact, realizing the couple’s fear of Giorg, the subordinates had already stopped monitoring them.

Of course, Leon and Fiona didn’t know this. Their fear of Giorg continued to bind their spirits.

As a result, their home was anything but a place of peace. The constant feeling of being watched and the overwhelming fear that Giorg might decide to dispose of them at any moment made their lives a living hell.

Nightly nightmares, a toxic marriage, the discomfort of being constantly watched, and the crushing fear of Giorg’s whims—Leon and Fiona had lost all hope for the future.

For Leon and Fiona, a lukewarm, endless hell continued.
