Chapter 4: Adam Marcellus, the Blood Magician [2]
Adam Marcellus' eyes widened when he saw a white-haired boy fighting against the giant. Not because he was winning but rather because of how he was losing. His spells were incredibly weak; Adam could just blow them away with his mouth, and there was only one projectile at a time. But the boy's fire rate was incredible. Adam saw how the boy had no Mana for a short time using his Perception stat of 90. Adam had reached the pinnacle of humanity in almost every stat, with 100 being the maximum for normal humans. This maximum could be changed with talents, but those were so rare that even Adam, one of the strongest humans, had practically no hope of ever getting one.
Adam stopped pondering when he saw the giant getting closer to the boy. He shouted to the boy that he should duck, and the boy did so with an incredible reaction time. Adam was becoming more and more intrigued every second. He conjured a blood lance, which sped toward the giant, which tried to block it. Of course, the giant was way too weak for Adam, so the giant took his last breath, looking hatefully at Adam. Adam did not care. He turned to look at the white-haired boy who, in his estimation, was about 15 years old. Adam looked him in the eyes and was amazed by their indifference. It was almost like the boy did not care that one of the strongest humans in the world was standing before him. Adam started to chuckle. The boy furrowed his brows in response.
Adam quickly collected himself and spoke with his baritone voice:
"Hello. Are you okay? Are you hurt somewhere?"
The boy answered with a very calming, almost enchanting voice:
"No, I'm fine, thank you for asking. But let me ask you: who are you, you are strong."
"You don't know me?" asked Adam with a disheartened look "By the way, what's your name, boy?"
"No, I don't know you. It seems I lost my memories. I only know that my name is Rados."
"Hmm. Well, memory loss certainly isn't rare these days. But congratulations, or rather sorry, Rados. You are the only survivor of this village. Thankfully, I was here before that giant got to you. But you were fighting valiantly. How did you shoot so many rocks?"
Rados thought about it for a moment and decided to answer honestly. "I have a strong Mana Breathing Technique."
"What's its name? I wonder if I know I; it seemed as strong if not stronger than mine, Mana Bloodstreams."
"I'm sorry, but I'd prefer not to answer that question. By the way, what's your name?" asked Rados with his piercing green eyes. For some reason, Adam felt comfortable looking at his eyes, almost like he could fall asleep right here.
"Oh, I'm glad you asked. My name is Adam Marcellus. I am one of the strongest humans out there and also the principal of the Everdusk Academy. But we can talk in the car, follow me."
Rados' eyes widened, but he decided to follow Adam to his car while looking at his destroyed surroundings. "It's a tragedy what happened to this place," he said.
"Yes, such devastations happen weekly nowadays. Those are volatile times we're living in." was the response of Adam, who had a sad look on his face.
After a short walk, the duo arrived at the car. Adam sat in the driver's seat and told Rados to sit next to him. Rados walked around the car, opened the door after thinking for a few seconds, and sat down. He looked at Adam with a shy face and said: "I'm sorry, but I don't understand what a car is..."
Adam started to smile and started to explain: "A car is a machine we humans built to travel quickly. We use magic to create electricity, which we then use to power a so-called engine that turns the wheels."
"Ahh, I understand it now, thank you, Mister Marcellus."
"No problem, but you must've hurt your head badly if you even forgot this. By the way, you can just call me Adam."
They drove off with Adam, driving masterfully but more slowly this time. He was en route to his mansion in the capital of Uskington with the same name. During this half-hour drive, he and Rados talked with each other, and Adam found himself becoming fonder and fonder of the boy. He had never spoken with such a mature and wise 15-year-old before.
After arriving at the mansion, Rados left the car and took a look around. He was amazed at the progress humanity had made during his long time of meditation when he stopped observing the human realm. He saw bright neon lights and huge buildings in the distance, but right before him was the biggest building he had ever seen in the human realm. Suddenly, the front door opened and an old man in formal clothing ran outside to greet his mast, Adam. He knelt and spoke: "Welcome back, master, we hope you are unharmed. And also...". He looked at Rados and furrowed his brows. He got closer to Adam and whispered in his ear so that Rados couldn't hear. "Master, the Emperor, and the other ruler of the seven states wish that you'd have a child that can replace you when you die."
Adam shook his head and answered: "How many times do I need to tell them Eve is too frail to give birth to a child, and I'd never cheat on my wife? So I'd have to adopt a child and it's not like I can just find a suitable successor. He needs enough potential and also needs to be smart enough". While speaking, he became slower and more silent. His head slowly turned toward Rados.
"Hey, Rados.", he started...
