Chapter 2: Oh, the Humanity
Since the origin of mankind, it has formed many societies. They were differently advanced in structure, technology, and magic. But now, in the year 847, after the end of the God Era, the world has reached new heights in all disciplines. For a large reason, this is due to the rise in the importance of magical and physical prowess over the last 100 years. The reason for that lies in the fact that 100 years ago, a new sort of monster, dubbed Daemons, started to appear. They are humanoid in nature but are mostly evil and try to either rule over or kill as many humans as possible. With the sudden appearance of Daemons, many old nations fell, and only the strongest survived. But even the most powerful countries were affected and had to change their ways. Now, strength is the most important characteristic of a person.
To strengthen humanity, all remaining nations agreed to build a grand academy in the middle of the continent on a huge floating island: the Everdusk Academy. Led by one of the strongest humans in the last century, Adam Marcellus, the Blood Magician, it aims to improve the caliber of every generation and trains them to fight against both Daemons and Beasts who roam the other continents and the ruined lands on the continent of Gliseon.
Gliseon is divided into seven countries, all in either the west, the south, or the east. The north was completely devastated during the rampage of Daemons and is thought to be uninhabited by humans. In the West, there is only the Rolenem Empire. The South is shattered into four states united in the Southern Cross, and the East consists of two rival Kingdoms trying to increase their might.
Humanity has reached a technological level with electronics such as Smartphones and Cars existing. Most electricity is generated using magic. Weaponry has also gone a long way with new mechanical swords using the mana of the user. Mechanical bows no longer need physical strength to pull the strength, and mana bombs can level entire cities. Humanity would be in a golden age if not for the looming strength of Daemons and beasts threatening the lives of all.
All humans can use magic, but everyone can use it to a different degree, which is why Valor was developed during the God Era. Valor uses a combination of mana and physical strengths to achieve feats impossible without using magic. One can accelerate themselves, strengthen their bodies, or even open a dominion, in which their abilities are amplified. People primarily using Valor are called Hunters, and people primarily using Magic are called Magicians.
Beasts are primarily found in the wild, but others, stronger ones, are found in dungeons. Dungeons are legendary subspaces created sometime during the God Era for reasons unknown to today's humanity. In it, one can find rare treasures such as Valor techniques, Mana breathing techniques, and Talents. Talents are abilities unique to one person or bloodline. They range from being useless to being skills invaluable in battle. One person can have up to three talents, but most of the population has none.
Mankind is primarily atheist, but some cults of certain Gods and Goddesses do exist. They are often hiding in the shadows, trying to influence major players.
