The Former Marine

Chapter 47: Chapter 64: The Big Nike Partnership

It was a normal afternoon at Derek's gym, where he continued to teach his personal training and classes. Since the celebrities started showing up, the space was gaining notoriety, and his name was becoming increasingly known outside of military and special operations circles. But that afternoon, something big was about to happen.

Derek had just finished an intense workout with some students when he received a call that surprised him.

"Derek Rogan speaking," he answered, wiping the sweat from his face with a towel.

"Hello, Mr. Rogan. This is Mark, representing Nike. We've been following your gym closely and all the success you've had with your classes. Our executives have been talking about the possibility of a partnership."

Derek frowned, but smiled slightly. He'd heard rumors that big brands were eyeing him, but Nike was a giant in the sports world. "I'm listening, Mark. Can you explain more?"

Mark, on the other end of the line, explained enthusiastically: "We at Nike are interested in providing high-performance sports equipment for your gym. But this is just the beginning. The main idea is for you to train and teach some of our sponsored athletes. We know that you have a degree in physical education and are licensed as a personal trainer, in addition to your extensive experience in the Marine Corps. We think this combination would be perfect to offer something unique to our elite athletes."

Derek was silent for a moment, processing the proposal. He knew this was a unique opportunity. Not only did it mean a huge step forward for his gym, but it would also give him the chance to work with world-class athletes, helping them improve their performance. Plus, working with a global brand like Nike was something he had never considered before, but it made perfect sense.

"That sounds amazing, Mark. But tell me, what exactly would my role be in this partnership?" Derek asked, eager to get to the bottom of the details.

Mark got straight to the point: "You would be the official coach for a number of Nike-sponsored athletes, developing customized training programs based on your unique experience. In addition, we envision you also serving as a sort of brand ambassador for advertising campaigns related to physical performance and military training. We think your story, combined with your knowledge, is something that can inspire many."

Derek smiled even wider. He loved training, and the prospect of applying his skills to elite athletes was enticing. "I like the idea. But I want to make it clear that training is the main focus. I'm not so interested in the advertising side of things."

"Sure, Derek, we totally get it. The main focus is your work with the athletes. The advertising side would be an extension of your role, but we will always respect your priorities."

"Perfect. Can we set up a meeting to discuss the details and see how we can formalize this?" Derek asked, already excited about the prospect of expanding his impact on the world of sports.

"Absolutely! I'll schedule a meeting with our executives for next week. We'll send our best representatives to your gym. And don't worry, Nike will make sure you have all the support you need, from equipment to technical support."

After hanging up, Derek was thoughtful for a moment. He looked around his gym, reflecting on how much it had grown since he opened it. The partnership with Nike was validation of the hard work he had put in so far. More than that, it was an opportunity to get back to doing what he loved most: helping people reach their full potential, just like he had done with his students and his own teams back in the Marine Corps.

Later that night, Derek shared the news with Kylie as they sat in the kitchen cooking dinner. Stormi and Aire were playing in the living room, laughing loudly as they played with toys.

"So… I guess I'm going to start working with Nike," Derek said casually as he chopped vegetables.

Kylie, who was stirring a pot on the stove, stopped for a second and looked at him in surprise. "What? Seriously? Nike? That's huge, Derek! What do you mean?"

Derek laughed at her reaction and explained the proposal. Kylie listened intently, her excitement growing as Derek detailed the partnership. "You've always been so good at training and running your gym. I knew something big was going to happen, but this… training Nike athletes? This is a dream, Derek."

He smiled. "Yeah, it seems like everything is falling into place. But honestly, I'm more excited about being able to help these athletes. It brings me back to my roots."

Kylie nodded in admiration. "And you deserve it. You've worked hard to get here, and this is proof that what you do is worth it. It's going to be amazing to see you coaching these athletes. I can already imagine the motivational videos."

Derek laughed. "Yeah, I imagine Nike would want to do something like that. But like I said, the focus will be on the training. I want to make sure these athletes are at their best."

On the day of the meeting, Derek was prepared. When Nike representatives arrived at his gym, he greeted them personally, showing them every detail of the space and explaining the training philosophy he followed.

Mark, who was present, seemed impressed with the setup. "Derek, you really have something special here. I think this partnership will be beneficial for everyone."

"I think so too," Derek replied with a smile. "I can't wait to get started."

The meeting was a success. Nike executives were thrilled with the idea of having Derek coaching their athletes. Not only was the partnership confirmed, but it was also decided that they would begin sending custom Nike equipment to his gym. The first group of athletes would arrive in a few weeks to begin training under Derek's supervision.

When it was all over, Derek felt satisfied. He knew this was a golden opportunity, but more than that, it was a chance to continue growing in a field he loved. And now, with Nike by his side, he was ready to take his gym and his members to new heights.

When Derek returned home that night, he told Kylie everything, who hugged him proudly. "I knew you could do it, Derek. This is just the beginning."

Derek smiled, looking at Stormi and Aire playing in the living room. "Yes, it's the start of something big. But most of all, I want to keep doing what I love: helping others achieve their best. And if I can do that with Nike, then I'm on the right track."

Kylie agreed, and together, they toasted yet another milestone among many others to come.

Merry Christmas to all
