Chapter 20: Arc Conclusion – (REMAKE)
The discovery of the Time Vault had changed everything. Joe and Adam spent the next few days in a whirlwind of whispered conversations, covert planning, and nervous glances at Harrison Wells. They had the proof. They had the truth. Now, they just needed to figure out how to expose him without getting themselves erased from existence.
" This is it. The final boss of the first arc. And I'm pretty sure he's got a cheat code. But so do I. Sort of. My cheat code just involves a lot of dying and sarcastic remarks."
They decided to confront Wells, subtly at first, to gauge his reaction. Joe prepared a series of pointed questions about Nora's murder, questions that only someone with intimate knowledge of the crime could answer. Adam, meanwhile, kept his 'Enhanced Observation' on, ready to catch any tell, any flicker of the Reverse-Flash beneath the façade.
Just as they were about to put their plan into motion, the alarm blared. Not a metahuman alert. Something else. Something bigger.
"We have a situation," Caitlin's voice crackled over the comms, her usual calm replaced by genuine fear. "Military presence. General Wade Eiling. And he's… he's here for Barry."
Adam's blood ran cold. Eiling. The man who experimented on metahumans. The man who would eventually become a major threat. This wasn't just a random event; this was a direct, calculated move. And it was happening now.
" Of course. Just when we're about to expose the time-traveling supervillain, the military industrial complex decides to show up. Because why have one crisis when you can have two? This universe really hates my vacation plans."
General Eiling, flanked by armed soldiers, stormed into S.T.A.R. Labs, demanding Barry Allen. He accused Barry of being a dangerous metahuman, a threat to national security.
"Dr. Wells," Eiling barked, "you will hand over the asset. Now."
Wells, however, remained calm, his face a mask of benevolent concern. "General Eiling, Mr. Allen is a civilian. He is under our care."
Adam watched Wells closely. He knew Eiling was a pawn in Thawne's larger game, a distraction, a way to push Barry, to test his limits. Wells was playing both sides. He was protecting Barry from Eiling, yes, but he was also using the situation to his advantage.
"This is ridiculous!" Barry exclaimed, stepping forward. "I'm not an asset! I'm just trying to help people!"
"Help people?" Eiling scoffed. "You're a weapon, Mr. Allen. And you belong to the government."
The tension in the Cortex was palpable. Joe had his hand on his gun. Cisco and Caitlin looked terrified. Barry was vibrating with anger and fear.
" Okay, Adam, this is your moment. You can't expose Wells now; it's too chaotic. But you can help. You can guide them. You can show them that even in the face of impossible odds, they can win. And maybe, just maybe, you can get a new skill from Eiling. He's definitely a killer."
Adam stepped forward, a sarcastic grin plastered on his face. "General Eiling, with all due respect, you're barking up the wrong speedster. Barry Allen is a good guy. He's barely figured out how to tie his shoes at super-speed, let alone be a 'weapon.' Besides, if you want a real weapon, you should try the guy who can control the weather. Or the guy who can make copies of himself. They're much more impressive."
Eiling glared at him. "And who are you, civilian?"
"Adam Stiels," he said, offering a small bow. "Unofficial consultant to the CCPD, part-time S.T.A.R. Labs intern, and full-time expert in pointing out the obvious. And the obvious here is, you're making a mistake. Barry's not the enemy. He's the hero. And you're about to make a very powerful enemy if you don't back down."
Eiling scoffed, but Adam's words, combined with the unwavering support of Joe and the nervous energy of Cisco and Caitlin, seemed to give Barry a surge of confidence. Barry, with a newfound resolve, vibrated his hand, creating a sonic boom that sent a shockwave through the room, knocking Eiling and his soldiers back.
"I'm not going anywhere with you," Barry declared, his voice firm. "And I'm not a weapon. I'm The Flash."
Eiling, surprised but undeterred, ordered his men to open fire. Barry, with a blur of motion, disarmed them, moving too fast for the human eye to follow. It was a chaotic, exhilarating display of his growing power.
Adam watched, a sense of pride swelling in his chest. Barry was becoming the hero he was meant to be. But he also saw Wells, observing the chaos, a subtle, almost imperceptible smirk on his face. He was enjoying this. He was learning. He was still in control.
The confrontation ended with Eiling retreating, frustrated but not defeated. Team Flash had won the battle, but the war was far from over.
Later, as the dust settled, Joe and Adam stood together, watching Barry train.
"He's getting stronger," Joe said, a note of awe in his voice. "Faster."
"He is," Adam agreed. "And he's going to need to be. Because Eiling's not the only threat out there. And Wells… Wells is still playing his game. We have to be ready, Joe. For everything."
Joe nodded, his gaze fixed on Barry. "We will be. We'll find a way to expose him, Adam. We will."
Adam looked at the System interface. He was still Level 3. He hadn't died from Eiling, as Eiling wasn't a designated killer for him yet. But the encounter had solidified his resolve. The first arc was over. They had faced metahumans, criminals, and the terrifying truth about their mentor. And they had survived. But the true battle, the battle for the timeline, was just beginning.
" Arc one, complete. No major timeline paradoxes, minimal collateral damage, and I'm still alive. Mostly. Now, for arc two. More villains, more secrets, and probably more opportunities for me to die in increasingly ridiculous ways. Bring it on, universe. I've got lives. And a very sarcastic attitude."
