Chapter 12: Chapter 12: Weak Legs
As soon as Xia Wan's feet touched the ground, her body lost control and suddenly lurched forward, falling straight into the broad and warm embrace of Huo Siyuan.
She quickly regained her senses and tried to stand upright, only to realize with shock that her legs felt numb and weak, as if they had lost all sensation, unable to support her weight.
She inwardly groaned in distress: "This is terrible! He must think I did this on purpose to throw myself into his arms. Just look at his cold, distant demeanor…"
At that moment, Huo Siyuan was initially slightly stunned by the unexpected situation but quickly regained his composure and instinctively wrapped Xia Wan tightly in his arms.
Looking up, Xia Wan saw the man who had unhesitatingly held her was now gazing at her silently.
She involuntarily leaned closer to his firm chest and whispered apologetically, "Mr. Huo, I'm really sorry. I absolutely didn't do this on purpose. I stood there for too long just now, and my legs became numb and weak."
Upon hearing Xia Wan mention her weak legs, Huo Siyuan felt a surge of tenderness in his heart. Softening his tone, he asked, "May I carry you?"
Xia Wan, caught off guard, looked at him suspiciously. "What?"
Huo Siyuan took a deep breath and gently repeated, "Can I carry you?"
Xia Wan was utterly astonished. Although they had only met twice, they were already legally married.
After a brief moment of deliberation, she finally nodded slightly in agreement.
Once he received her consent, Huo Siyuan bent down gently.
With practiced ease, he carefully slipped his left hand under Xia Wan's delicate knees and placed his right hand lightly around her slender waist.
With a slight exertion of his arms, he lifted Xia Wan steadily and effortlessly without the slightest tremble.
Xia Wan rested her head lightly against Huo Siyuan's broad, solid chest. At this moment, she could clearly hear the strong and rhythmic beating of his heart within his chest.
The steady and powerful rhythm seemed to carry a certain magic, mesmerizing Xia Wan. Unconsciously, a faint blush crept up her fair, delicate cheeks.
At this moment, Xia Wan's hands, which should have been tightly wrapped around Huo Siyuan's neck, were instead hesitantly curled up in front of her chest like a frightened little rabbit.
For some reason, as she felt the gentle rise and fall of his chest, an inexplicable fear and unease welled up within her, making her feel as though she might fall at any moment.
Despite this, she tried her best to suppress the embarrassment and awkwardness in her heart, gritting her teeth and holding on tightly, fearing she might really fall if she let go.
Xia Wan nervously curled her fingers and, in a voice as soft as a mosquito's buzz, murmured, "Mr. Huo... Can I hold onto your neck?"
Before she even finished speaking, her head had already dropped so low that it almost buried into her chest.
Huo Siyuan looked down at the shy and adorable woman in his arms, his lips curling into a doting smile as he softly said, "Mm."
Hearing his response, Xia Wan, as if receiving great encouragement, immediately extended her arms and wrapped them tightly around Huo Siyuan's neck.
In that instant, a scorching warmth spread through her skin, making her heart tremble uncontrollably.
Apart from their accidental first encounter, this was the first time in her life that she had such an intimate interaction with a man while being fully conscious.
This unfamiliar yet wonderful sensation made Xia Wan both nervous and excited, her heart pounding like a startled deer.
For some reason, she felt as if her head was burning up, and even her hands seemed to heat up as if they were on fire.
Her heart pounded wildly, like an unbridled horse, and the rapid, intense rhythm echoed so loudly in her ears that she feared Huo Siyuan might hear it.
Panicked, she quickly withdrew her hands and pressed them tightly against her chest, hoping to calm the restless beating of her heart, lest it be discovered by Huo Siyuan and embarrass her further.
She silently pleaded in her mind, "Calm down, stop pounding like this, or you'll give me away."
Unaware of the turmoil in Xia Wan's heart, Huo Siyuan, however, was in a very good mood. A faint smile lingered on his lips as he carried her steadily forward.
Soon, they reached the staircase.
Looking down at the woman in his arms, he noticed her slender hands were still pressed tightly against herself, showing no intention of holding onto him.
Seeing this, Huo Siyuan softly reminded her, "We're going downstairs now. It might be a bit bumpy. Do you want to hold on tighter?"
Hearing his pleasant voice from above her head, Xia Wan obediently tightened her grip around his neck.
Feeling her soft hands clutching him, a deep sense of satisfaction filled Huo Siyuan's heart.
Intentionally, he walked a little unsteadily.
"Ah!"
Xia Wan let out a startled cry at the sudden feeling of weightlessness.
She clung even tighter and looked up at Huo Siyuan with pitiful eyes, "Mr. Huo, could you slow down a bit?"
Huo Siyuan's voice was gentle, as if coaxing an innocent child, "Mm, okay."
Hearing this, Xia Wan suddenly felt foolish!
The steps were already slow enough, yet she still made such a naive request—it was truly too reckless of her. "Oh…"
Feeling somewhat dejected, she lowered her head again, unconsciously tightening her arms around his neck a little more.
Although Huo Siyuan was teasing her playfully, his actions were full of tenderness.
His pace down the stairs slowed considerably, and he even held Xia Wan a little tighter, as if afraid she might get hurt.
After a while, they finally reached the first-floor hall.
Huo Siyuan softly ordered, "Prepare the meal immediately."
The housekeeper, standing nearby, dared not delay and quickly responded, "Second Master, rest assured, the meal is already prepared. You and the Young Madam can dine in the dining room now."
"Got it," Huo Siyuan nodded slightly in satisfaction.
Meanwhile, the surrounding servants were left utterly dumbfounded, staring in disbelief at their usually cold, ruthless Second Master.
At this moment, he was handling the delicate woman in his arms with such care and tenderness.
They couldn't help but sigh inwardly—this Young Madam was truly fortunate to have softened the icy heart of their Second Master.
It seemed that Xia Wan's position as the Young Madam was now firmly established.
