Chapter Twelve [The Barbarian]
The gorgeous couple is seen by the management carrying out their duties as members of the management. They are pleased to observe them working together in pairs to serve food to clients and satisfy their appetites.
Daniele like David to remain by her side at all times as she watches the ship's captain and chief engineer gaze enraptured at her body. Due to his hectic schedule while Daniele is without clients, David has not yet seen them.
"Honey, please never leave me here alone yourself.” Danielle begs with eyes that hint at humiliation. “Why? What's wrong with you, exactly?” David asks.
"Remember how I expressed my anxiety of being apart from you last night?” Daniele reminded him with further specifics.
“I've done this not only out of fear of losing you but also due to the fantasy I see in the ship's captain and chief engineer's eyes. They are looking at me with lust, Honey.”
In order to prevent her comments from being overheard, Daniele turns warily around and murmurs to David.
"I'm not actually trying to hurt them or be distrustful of them.” Daniele continues, as David gives her a tight hug and kisses her forehead, "I wanted to be secure and let them know that I'm married to you already and we love each other steadfastly.”
Because of the way they respect each other, the passersby and the young boy who was caught taking the passengers' purse also regard them as a nice couple.
"I admire you because I can trust you and you're really honest with me.” David remarks as others hear him discussing his impressions with Daniele.
"They will encounter a savage barbarian they have never seen before in their entire life if someone sexually harasses you here while you are working without me. “
David gives her the warnings, adding with a smile, "and when it comes, we plan to get out of here, but be sure that you got our money and they will get what they deserve.”
“Do you know how to swim and dive deep into the ocean, honey dear?” David gently pursues Daniele while asking her questions with his eyes fixed forward.
“I was a swimmer and a mountain climber, but how are we going to do it?” Daniele reminds him, "We need to pack our stuff and some tools for emergencies.”
“ You create a new, secure strategy so that no problems will develop prior to it. Being born-again Christians, we shouldn't set a poor example for others. We should use every measure necessary to persuade them to be good people. Let's just demonstrate to them that we are a legitimate Christian. When they tempted us, we should overcome them by refusing their temptation by the words of God. “
“Great suggestions, honey!” Daniele squeals with joy as she gives him a tender kiss on his beard.
After a while, they still don't have any customers, Daniele makes a quiet suggestion to him. While they are talking and debating the safety precautions, she clears the table of all objects and maps the floor.
Do you still recall the verse from the Bible that reads, "Do not be overtaken by evils, but conquer evil with good? It appears somewhere in Romans chapter 12 verse 21 of Paul's letter. But before that, we must demonstrate to everyone that our love is genuine and sincere by ceasing to follow the norms of this world and becoming transformed by the renewing of our minds,” Daniele says.
"When we are being harassed, we respect them, extend kindness to them, and speak to them respectfully. In order for them to recognize that we are not what they see as tempting and sources of temptation, we strive to coexist peacefully with them like our own brothers and sisters,” she suggests.
“Be patient, honey, since I only treat them as my brother when they joke about and taunt me, whereas you treat the women who will try to seduce you as your sister. Even when they are close to getting you, maintain your composure and resist the urge to give in.” Daniele clearly explains to David how to get beyond them: "Refuse them, Honey."
"Let's constantly pray, honey, and don't be so sure of yourself and reliant on them.” As David observes her preparing the remains from the guests' discarded plates, Daniele continues, "We can be trapped in a snares and wiles they will destroy us by our own flaws.”
"Honey, I can see what you're saying. Both of us have extensive training and have lived in a community of people of many ethnicities inside a convent. We will use all we learnt there to this situation. The humble will defeat the proud, but when everything goes wrong, we must leave right away,” David advises.
“We will politely advise them that we need to go right away and come up with good excuses to show them that we are the ones with the emergency call from our loved ones in the hospital, and that we need money for the bill. We must therefore receive our pay first. "David says as they begin to log off since the next person on duty will take their place for the night shift, he explains.
As the pair prepares to leave the counter, the head engineer suddenly charges at them. Daniele signals the engineer to stop and allows David to speak.
“Good night, Sir!” David gives him a fist bump and adds,
"What are we here for, Engineer?” David queries.
"Are you free for the gathering tonight?” The engineer says, "We have a meeting inside with the management, and we need your cooperation as we have the schedules to continue sailing to Europe this week”.
“That sounds fantastic! Okay, we'll walk up behind you.” As they part ways, David responds, "We'll simply take a quick nap and relax inside the cabin for a while.”
The pair walks cautiously to their private room, rehydrates with warm water inside the washroom, and then lies down on a small, soft cushion together to have a quick nap. While Daniele is leaning against David's chest, she initiated the conversation.
"What's your current plan? "Daniele whispers.
“What?” David adds, asking with his eyes cast away.
"I'm not sure yet. If the schedules are worthwhile and advantageous to us, we will ask them to clarify them first. We will undoubtedly collaborate and inform them that we are a married couple and that we have been traveling as a family for three months.” David clearly says while keeping his lips close to Daniele's face. “That’s the greatest thing to do to prevent future distractions.”
He feels tempted to kiss her and engage in brief sexual activity with her. In order to ensure that they can be on time for the meeting and gatherings, he checks the time and locks the door.
"Let's try making love, Honey. I want to keep it with me at all times so we can have the baby on the way home. “
David occasionally clarifies that his devoted wife gave him free permission.
The couple is already prepared to face the management after 15 minutes of passionate engagement. Daniele lacks makeup and dresses in boyish garb with rubber shoes, covering her long, curly hair with a brown cap.
“Do you think their gazes won't turn amorous when they see me?” Danielle requests her husband's opinion abruptly. David enjoys making fun of her because it appears that she is quite aware of how to let down the men who have active fantasies about her.
"Honey, I'd also like your feedback on how I look tonight. Observe me!” David makes himself appear somewhat homosexual in an effort to make fun of Daniele. He walks in an old-fashioned manner, gently swaying his hips and twirling his fingers.
“How about this, honey? If I'm seduced by the woman.” Daniele shouted so loudly that people outside could hear her. "I'll just be subtle and sway my body lightly so that they will all turn off of my gestures." She halts abruptly and immediately covers her mouth with her hands.
“Now let's leave.” He warns, “that we might be late for the meeting.”
The couple looks around for a moment before realizing there aren't many of them.
With his blue glittering eyes and blonde curly hair that can cover both of his ears and his forehead, David greets them tenderly and sweetly, saying, "Well then, we are pleased to see you for the first time, Sirs, Madam." He wears sports knee-length khaki slacks and a fitting light green t-shirt, which is extremely casual for office workers.
“David, would you mind sitting by my right side?” The ship's captain inquiries David.
“Finally, Captain, you can tell who I am to you and to others!” David continues monotonously,
“Can you sit at my side, honey?” As Daniele followed him and slipped her arms within his side arms, establishing a cozy environment between both of them, he said, "I wanted you to be always close to me, my wife.”
The woman who was the captain's company the previous evening is wearing a red backless miniskirt and 6 inch pointed high-heeled shoes, putting her virtually on the captain's shoulders in height. Despite being quite petite, she is really adorable, nice, and outgoing. Because the captain is wealthy, she doesn't appear to have the courage to woo David. Nobody has the guts to inquire as to why the captain requested David sit next to him during that meeting.
The captains chat in a foreign tongue as the meeting gets underway. He is about the same height as David, who is 6 feet and 2 inches tall, therefore it is obvious that he is not a native Filipino. The captain's black straight hair, light skin, and lack of facial hair give him the appearance of being of mixed European and Filipino ancestry.
The captain said as one man handed out a piece of paper and a ballpen while the other crew passed around the attendance forms, "Before we start with our meeting, I would like to ask somebody to record the attendance and the agenda along with the minutes of our meeting today." Unless someone reads the attendance sheets, nobody will know the names of each individual. David and Daniele are setting close to the ship's captain. She definitely understands everything the skipper will say.
“Why did you wait until now to arrive? I have been waiting for your help since I need to rest. "The captain speaks to David as his eyes move in his direction.
“It's not a problem, that. I've arrived already. I'll take care of the main seat while you relax as much as you want.” David answers in hushed tones.
The captains’ glance at the attendance papers and send it to David after confirming that everyone is there. "Come on, try to identify each name as I speak it and become familiar with their face. David, you need to start learning how to steer our ship. I shall turn over the role to you while I take a break with my wife due to my need for rest extensions. “
The captains provide more details. David holds Daniele's hand tightly while listening in silence. “Okay, let's first extend a warm welcome to today's newest management member. I am aware that you have already seen them here since last week as well as while we were sailing from the city till we arrived at this port. Mr. David and Daniele Richardson are scheduled to fly back to their native Europe.” The captain says
“But since they were in need of employment and met the requirements for our open position, I was happy to welcome them as a working couple. David has owned shares in our shipping company and is highly familiar with every aspect of it. I'll now turn to him and explain my situation until I've fully recovered from my tension and have regained my strength. I'm not sure how long my vacation will last, but I'll leave everything in David and Daniele's capable hands.”
The rest of the engineers greet the pair as part of the management as the captain gives David the keys.
"Honey, I never imagined that things would turn out this way.” Daniele comments.
"Honey, you don't yet know who your husband is.” David whispered eyes roamed around.
“I have high hopes for you, David. When something goes wrong or there is a problem, you know how to seek for help. Your wife should constantly be by your side. The engineers are present to ensure that everything is functioning properly."David responds as he extends a handshake to the captain who took his headgear and coat in order to gather the rest of his belongings for his vacation.
He moves away to find his personal cabin while the captains give instructions.
“In any case,” he added with a smile, "I am simply lounging around and I will also travel with you to Europe but I have to have my lengthy rest.” He furthermore,
“Mrs. Daniele, good luck and be careful.”
"Sir, you're extremely welcome. I never anticipate it. I was having difficulties thinking up until this point, but now I feel at rest. God bless you, Sir," Daniele said with a smile as she felt bad for her nefarious plans against the ship captains.
Following dinner, they all enter their own rooms to wait for the sailing schedules to Europe. During the ship's dockyard time. The couple makes every effort to gather everything they require, become familiar with every aspect of the ship, and learn how to put the skills David has acquired as captain of the ship to use.
"Just don't ever let yourself be even an inch apart from me, honey. You won't work at the food counter any longer and serve customers; instead, you'll take care of your spouse and become pregnant so that we can have a large family. "David commented as he gives Daniele a tender kisses on her forhead.
