The Entity of Contradictions

Chapter 6: Escape and Gratitude

"You showed me the joys of the city I took refuge in, the food that I thought was beneath me, and the sights that I ignored to flee. All those experiences were wonderful, they made me happy ecstatic even. I never knew the simple joys of the mortal realm where the main concerns were food, lodging, and a place to lie. We travelled far and wide seeing and experiencing sights that were awe-inspiring and harrowing. We played in festivals and saw meteor showers and the glory of nature. We also ran from war, plagues, and strife."

"We never stopped moving never stopped seeing the world, that bliss was short however" Hugging Marco tighter as if he would disappear at any moment she continued "My past caught up with me, Odin and Seth sent assassins after me. Those bastards wanted me under their thumb" Diya practically spat.

"All we could do was run, if a human was caught up in a battle of gods and monsters... I don't need to explain further I assume.

All Marco could do was nod in agreement, imagining the monsters that could wage war for aeons fighting. He shuddered to think of the consequences, considering that when he woke up in that crater both Ema and Diya were unharmed while everything else in the area was evaporated. The durability of these beings must be insane. His mind wandered thinking if a nuclear bomb could even scratch these beings.

Diya continued "I received a letter to either surrender or that you would die. At the time I honestly did not know what to do, you became my everything but I was given practically no choice." Separating Diya walked back to her seat, tears streaming down her face.

"I swore at that moment that I would not let anything happen to you. I would use the joys you gave me to fuel my counterattack. I told you my plans, I told you exactly what I was and what was coming to find us. Do you want to guess your response?" Diya's eyes swollen meekly asked Marco.

"Honestly, I think I would fight with you probably..." Marco answered half confused half certain that no matter the era he would not accept being tossed around like a puppet. "I think it's because I hate being used, some of my friends say that it's a good thing while others say I'm arrogant." Amused with his own answer he gestured towards Diya "Assuming with your look I think we are of the same bred wouldn't you say?"

Touched with Marco's words Diya simply nodded "We fought, to the best of our abilities. Planning hit-and-run tactics as you would not survive a direct confrontation we managed to deter their forces for a while. We knew it was a losing battle but we still tried everything we could think of... Ultimately, our efforts were pointless. We were severely outnumbered and facing enemies who would do anything to achieve their objective. Because of me, you didn't die, at the time it was the worst punishment a mortal could ever suffer.

"Ultimately, we were surrounded, the only thing that I could do to save you was to throw you into the void between the branches of Yggdrasil. Not wasting time, I tried to hurl you towards that space where you had a chance to survive." Diya looked down at her drink sadly.

"Till this day I do not know if that choice was right, you see when I threw you the assassin threw their attacks at you too. Their weapons glowed with runes of curses and amplification, and though they are only assassins they are still immeasurable by human standards. They attacked you with many curses, honestly, I wasn't sure how many kinds but I'm sure the pain was unbearable". She thought there must be at least the same number of curses torturing Marco since there were around fifty assassins.
