Chapter 11: Chapter 10.
I was excited about going out with Teddy, but now facing the huge gates of an amusement park made me rethink my decision. The gates were locked, and I know for sure that they were closed.
Why did Teddy bring me here?
I glanced at her beside me with a frown, "uh, what are we doing here?"
She didn't bother replying and just turned to her side. "Follow me," she started to walk away from the gate and towards the fenced area where a huge tree sat.
"We are going to get in, through the fence." She pointed to the tree, "we are going to climb up this tree, use that branch over there to get to the fence. Easy peasy."
My eyes widen in discomfort, "isn't that illegal? I mean, what if we get caught?"
"We won't, as long as you're careful. No one really comes around here at this time." She looked at me with worry, "but can you climb trees?"
I nodded without hesitation eager not to disappoint her. I get to spend time like this with her, I don't want to disappoint her.
I've climbed trees a few times back at the orphanage where I grew up. Whenever the nuns made me angry, it was my method of rebellion. I loved the attention when they scolded me to get down.
"Okay, I'll go first." Teddy walked towards the tree and held it by a small edge below. She used that to push herself up until her feet was standing on one side of the trunk.
Expertly, Teddy made her way higher until she got to the said branch and began carefully walking towards the fence.
I watched her in awe and fascination. There was no doubt that climbing trees is something she does often. She made it looks so easy, and it's so fucking sexy.
When she successfully climbed onto the fence, she looked down at me. "Your turn." She whispered.
I snapped out of my dazed thoughts about her being so cool and walked towards the tree to begin the same process she did. While she did hers cool and effortlessly, I did mine with a lot of struggles.
At some point, I even tripped and almost fell down because of my poor eyesight. "Careful!" Teddy whispered yelled looking concerned. I bit back a smile at her concerned tone.
After what seem like an eternity, I finally made it to the fence and we both stood on it.
"Now, we jump!"
"What?!" I almost screamed giving her an incredulous look. We weren't very far from the ground, but it's still scary.
"Don't worry, I'll go first, so I can catch you." She said the words so careless, oblivious to the fact that it was already turning my brain to mush. I lost myself staring at her for as long as five seconds, until she suddenly jumped down.
Teddy landed with a thud and rolled a bit before standing up. She looked up at me. "Jump Kiddo!"
I swallowed and looked around the ground where she stood. It was covered with carpet grass and wouldn't do much damage to my body, but I was still scared.
Teddy spread her arms out, "jump kid, I'll catch you. Trust me."
When I stared into her confident grey eyes, the fear in me disappeared. Of course I trusted Teddy. She's the only human being I can ever trust in this world.
There was nothing to fear when she's with me. I know for sure that she will protect me. I don't need to be afriad.
With a deep breath, I allowed myself to jump down the fence. Just as she promised, Teddy caught me, but that resulted in both of us falling unto the carpet grass with me on top of her.
Teddy groaned underneath me because she probably took most of the impact. I lifted myself up and looked down at her, she also recovered from her pain and stared back at me.
I found myself getting lost in her grey eyes. Up close, they even look a lot more beautiful than I thought. The shape of her face and that beautiful pink lips of hers.
Oh what I would do to kiss those lips!
"Aren't you gonna get off?" Her voice was calm and cool. I was glad she didn't sound annoyed at me for looking at her like a freak.
"Oh sorry!" I quickly scrambled off her and move to stand on the side. My head was lowered and I was blushing furiously.
Teddy stood up and cleared her throat. "Common, let's go. We don't have much time."
I followed her as we headed deeper into the park. It was completely dark and empty, there was not a single soul in sight. I followed Teddy closely because the darkness was preventing me from seeing properly.
She walked until we came to the spot where the merry-go-round was located. Teddy glanced over her shoulder with raised brows, "ready to have some fun kiddo?"
I looked at her confused, and then at the merry-go-round, then it dawn on me. A wide smile lit up my face as I looked at her, "yes!"
****
We rode the merry-go-round and I enjoyed every minute of it. The cool breeze blowing against my hair as we moved, the musical whisper of the wind. It almost felt like I was riding on a real horse.
Teddy was behind me on another horse as we silently moved round and round. Neither of us said a word, but I was no doubt enjoying myself.
I couldn't help but be grateful to Teddy. I've never ridden on a merry-go-round before. I couldn't be more grateful.
How did she know I needed this fun, even just for one day?
She doesn't want to get attached and she doesn't want me to get attached either. Well, she sure is doing a bad job about it.
After what felt like hours, we finally climbed back up the fence and left. As we walked side by side down the sidewalk, I couldn't help the big smile on my face. I felt comfortable even without any words being said between us. At least now I know she isn't mad at me.
"Hungry?" She asked out of the blue, and I looked at her startled. She tilted her head towards a small restaurant, "let's get some food."
She turned and walked towards the restaurant before I could reply, and I smiled and followed her there.
She ordered some cheap but delicious food with two glasses of orange juice to go with it. I didn't realize how hungry I was until I dug in. The stares I received all around me didn't faze me. I was used to being looked at with disgust wherever I go.
"This is so good," I moaned out with a full mouth.
Teddy rolled her eyes, "don't eat with your mouth full. You might chock," she pushed my glass of orange juice closer to me, and I couldn't help how my heart sang in delight.
Fuck, why is she always so thoughtful of me?! Does she even realize what that does to me, to my heart?!
After enjoying themselves, Teddy paid for the meal and we left.
As we walked on home, I decided it was time to thank Teddy. "Thanks for today Teddy. I_ it was a nice surprise. Considering your silent treatment for a while now, I wasn't expecting this."
She halted in her steps, and I did too. I looked at her wondering why she stopped.
She didn't say anything for a moment, then she spoke, "I have something for you."
I was confused, and I watched curiously as she dipped her hand into her pocket and brought out a...
My breath caught in my throat and my eyes well up in tears.
"It wasn't easy to get one, but I did my best. I even took it to the hospital to make sure it was okay." She popped open the glasses case, and I struggled so much to hold in my tears as she brought out a pair of huge nerd glasses.
She stepped forward, a lot closer to me and spread open the glasses, "here," she whispered as she helped me put it on.
My breath hitched when I felt her finger brush the side of my face. The gesture so sweet that it made my heart pound aggressively in my chest.
I could see clearly now. More clearly than ever, and my heart felt so light and heavy at the same time.
"It looks good on you." Teddy whispered as she stared down at me.
I chuckled and looked away from her. "I must have looked hideous without them." Maybe that's why she went out of her way to buy me one. It's not easy to get a medicated glasses. I was actually waiting for my allowance from the welfare before I could get one, but that's in a months time.
Teddy shook her head, "without your glasses, I think you look cuter."
I smiled sadly at her, "don't try to make me feel better Teddy. I know I'm ugly. You don't have to sweet talk me."
She scoffed, "you're not ugly Kid. Those bastard who hurt you and made you feel like shit, those idiot who judges your face not knowing the real reason behind it, those bastard teachers who watched you get hurt and do nothing about it! They are the ugly ones!" Her gaze soften, and for the first time ever, I could see a faint smile grazing her lips as she said, "you're beautiful kid. Never let anyone tell you otherwise!"
The tears escaped my eyes. I couldn't hold them back, not after hearing such a heartfelt words from Teddy.
All my life, no one has ever called me beautiful. Every where I go, I am met with people looking at me in disgust, but that is until Teddy came into my life. She reminded me that, I may have a scar on my face, but I'm still human like everyone else.
My eyes fell to her lips again. I could no longer resist. I stood on my tiptoes and kissed her.
I closed my eyes, marveling at how soft her lips felt.
The tears flowed freely.
Finally, I found a reason to be happy!
A reason to keep moving forward in life.
Even though Teddy doesn't like me that way, I will try my best to make her mine for good.
DEADLY REVENGE.
