The Dawn Unaware Of The Dusk

Chapter 7: The Child That Should Never Have to Feel Lonely

When Lucifer finally turned one year old, Lilith, Tenebris, and Domr went to a renowned astrologer—one who had prevented various disasters in the previous century.

As they arrived, the astrologer said, "I am Zaids, and today I will see the future of your child."

They all sat around the magic circle, and Zaids said, "Please allow me to hold the child for this to work."

Lilith said, "Here," and handed him over.

As Zaids looked the child in the eyes, a series of images flooded his mind, and he couldn't help but feel a sharp headache.

Lilith asked, "Mr. Zaids, is something wrong with Liebe's future?"

Zaids replied, "I just saw glimpses." He took a deep breath and said, "Now—Future Sight Magic: Darkest Lights."

A third eye opened on his forehead, and when Zaids stared deeply into Lucifer's eyes, all he could see was a black sun burning bright. Those who followed it lived in peace, while others were burned to ashes by its rays. Then came a scene of the House of Faust burning, all its members dead, while Liebe stood in the middle laughing with a wide grin.

Seeing the horrifying future, Lilith asked, "What's wrong, Zaids?"

Zaids said, "I saw it. The future of this child. This child is destiny itself. He was born for a reason."

Lilith asked, "And? Is it good or bad? What did you see?"

Zaids replied, "I saw a sun turning black. Under its rays, some people thrived and lived full lives. Yet others turned to ash. And then, the black sun became a baby. His life will emit the brightest rays of light, yet the shadows formed from those rays will be darker than anything before. In the end, I saw every member of the House of Faust dead, the house engulfed in black flames with no survivors. And he stood alone, grinning in the midst of death. Later, his darkness will lose control and engulf the nation. But then, a grey sword will emerge to pierce through the darkness and ensure dawn for all."

Hearing this, Tenebris was shocked, and Lilith's face turned pale with horror.

Zaids continued, "Finally, a black rose will be changed into a golden and blue shield."

Lilith asked, "What can we do?"

The astrologer said, "I don't know. It's a destiny set in stone."

Domr protested, "I refuse to believe it! How can my grandson be destined for destruction?"

Zaids said, "I don't know how to make you understand… it's set in stone. It's a future no one can change."

Hearing this, Lilith became horrified. With nothing more to say, they went home. It was getting late, so Lilith put baby Liebe to sleep in his crib, and both she and Tenebris went to sleep as well.

In the middle of the night, Tenebris woke up to the sound of crying. It was Lilith, sitting in a corner of the room in tears.

Tenebris asked, "What's wrong, dear?"

Lilith said, "It's Liebe… I can't live with myself knowing what will happen to him."

Tenebris said, "I know… it's hard for me to accept too. But you know what?"

Lilith asked, "What?"

Tenebris said, "Destiny isn't something written. It's something you form with your own strength. Liebe is a good baby. Even as an infant, everyone around him can't help but smile. Regardless of what anyone says, I won't believe such things about my son. And who the hell believes a circus freak like that anyway?"

Hearing that, Lilith couldn't help but smile.

Tenebris continued, "Even if it's true, there's only one way."

Lilith asked, "What's that?"

Tenebris replied, "We'll love Liebe so much that he won't even know what negative emotions are."

They went back to sleep. The next morning, as Lilith was feeding Liebe before going to work, the spoon suddenly fell from her hand.

Lilith said, "Sorry about that, dear."

Liebe said, "Mama! Mama! More food!"

Lilith smiled, "Wait a sec, dear."

Tenebris said, "He's still hungry for seconds? Good to know he still has his appetite."

Liebe said, "Papa! Papa! Play! Play!"

Tenebris said, "Again? Okay, sure."

Lilith added, "Want to practice walking again after breakfast?"

Liebe replied, "Walking! Walking!"

After breakfast, Liebe began walking. Lilith said, "Come here! Come to Mama!" And Liebe was able to walk all the way to her.

Lilith said, "Good job! It's getting late. I have to go to work."

Liebe held onto her uniform and said, "Mama, don't go!"

Lilith said, "Don't worry. Mama will be back soon."

Just as she started to fly away, with Gelda holding Liebe, Gelda screamed, "Lilith! Look behind you!"

Lilith turned—and it was Liebe, flying toward her!

Liebe said, "Mama! Pamper me!"

Lilith patted him on the head and said, "There, there."

Liebe smiled and gently floated down.

Lilith shouted, "When did he learn to fly?!"

Gelda said, "Don't know. Maybe watching you fly for a year made him want to fly too—and he just naturally developed the ability."

On her way to work, Lilith thought to herself:

No matter what others see or think… Liebe will always be my son. The son I love. The child I will never leave alone. He is my treasure.
