NOVEL WEB Chapter 13: The Competition for a Mother’s Time
A few days later, while Liebe was telling his mother and father about his day, Lilith suddenly said, "Oh! That reminds me — Liebe, look at this."
Liebe tilted his head. "Mommy, what is it?"
Lilith smiled and said, "Our knighthood, Black Rose, is organizing a Magic Battle Competition for schoolchildren aged 6 to 9. And since you're 7, you can join!"
Liebe's eyes lit up. "What's a Magic Battle Competition?"
"It's a competition where you get to unleash your full magical power and fight against other kids your age," Lilith explained. "If you're strong enough, you can win — and with your talent, you're sure to do well."
Liebe grinned. "Okay, Mommy! I want to win!"
Lilith nodded. "Then we'll get you registered tomorrow. It's next month, so be ready."
Liebe said excitedly, "Mommy, if we win, can all three of us go on a picnic?"
Tenebris chuckled and said, "Liebe, Mommy's really busy… maybe we should reconsider."
But Lilith smiled and said, "Sure! We're going on a picnic — to the beach! And we'll throw each other into the water!"
Liebe screamed, "Yeahhhhh!"
Tenebris leaned over to Lilith and whispered, "Can we really promise him that? The beach is pretty far away."
Lilith whispered back, "No problem. I can take a day off — we'll go on the weekend. I'll use Gelda's magic to get us there quickly, so no long travel time."
Hearing his mother's words, Liebe jumped up, laughing with joy. "Competition, here I come!"
🌟 The Day of the Competition
Before the actual matches, there was a qualifying round where each contestant had to shoot a magical spell at a target. Points were awarded based on destruction and precision.
To Liebe's surprise, both Licht and Elizabeth were participating too — though Elizabeth was in a different category since she was only 5.
Liebe stepped forward and declared:
"Dark Magic — Summon: Dark Orb!"
A small orb formed in front of him.
"Dark Magic — Endless Darkness!"
The orb fired a barrage of powerful shots, completely obliterating the target. Liebe earned the highest points in power and moderate points in precision.
Next was Licht.
"Light Magic — Piercing Light!"
A narrow beam of magic shot forward and created a perfect hole, exactly the size of the bullseye. It was so precise that it looked like the dot had simply vanished. Licht earned highest points in precision and moderate points in power.
The scoreboard showed:
Liebe and Licht were tied for 1st place in the qualifiers. The top 16 contestants advanced to the first round.
🔥 Liebe's First Battle
Liebe was matched against a Stone Magic user.
The opponent shouted, "Stone Magic — Shattering Stone!"
Sharp stones fired rapidly toward Liebe at high velocity.
Liebe countered:
"Dark Magic — Shield of Darkness!"
A dark barrier formed in front of him.
From the audience, Gelda gasped, "I taught him that!"
Liebe advanced slowly, shield up. As he got close, the Stone Magic user struck him with a Stone Gauntlet Punch, and part of Liebe's body vanished—
But suddenly, Liebe appeared behind him.
"Dark Magic — Harpoon of Shadow: Pierce!"
The harpoon struck the opponent's back, piercing through his stone armor.
From the stands, Tenebris stood up and shouted, "I taught him that!"
The harpoon hit the opponent's spinal cord, and he collapsed — Liebe won and advanced to the Quarter Finals.
⚡ Licht's Match
Licht faced a Steel Magic user.
"Steel Magic — Launch: Steel Beams!"
Massive steel beams shot toward him.
Licht calmly replied:
"Light Magic — Beams of Light!"
The light beams met the steel in midair — and melted them instantly.
"This is getting tiring," Licht muttered as he disappeared mid-spell.
The enemy looked around, confused. "Where did he—"
From behind, Licht appeared.
"No where."
He grabbed one of the opponent's steel beams and hit him with it, sending the boy flying two feet away.
Victory for Licht.
As the round ended, Lilith watched from the stands and said, "Licht has gotten so much stronger…"
Jewel, standing beside her, smiled and said, "I helped him train a bit. He's got a natural talent for it."
