Chapter 11: The Gates Opened by Innocence
In the near future, when Liebe, Licht, and Alysa are all seven years old and Elizabeth is five, they would play together every day in the Faust house.
"Liebe, what do we do today?" Elizabeth asked.
"Let's play tag," Liebe said.
"We've been doing that for the last few days," Licht replied. "And you always use magic to vanish — catching you is kinda hard."
Alysa said, "How about hide and seek?"
Licht said, "Liebe always cheats and blends into the dark rooms. It becomes impossible to find him."
Alysa suggested, "How about we play with the Ursarius? Didn't they have new cubs?"
Liebe said, "We could, but… well, if we go, they just hug us to death."
Licht added, "Or their fur becomes like quicksand and we start to sink."
Alysa said, "Didn't you say there used to be two of them? Now there are about eight."
Liebe replied, "From what Mom said, she got two of them on a mission and brought them as pets. Now they just sleep all day, play a bit, and eat grass and leaves."
"Wait, I have an idea where we could go," Licht said.
"Where?" Liebe asked.
"The cathedral — where the secret treasure of the House of Faust is located."
"I don't think we should go there," Elizabeth said. "Didn't Mother say never to go there alone?"
Liebe said, "I went there a few times… except only at night."
Alysa said, "I don't think we should go."
Licht said, "Now for some reason… I want to go."
Liebe said, "Well then, let's go."
As they reached the cathedral and stood before the entrance, they noticed the door was locked — and oddly, the lock had no keyholes. When Licht touched it, he felt the steel's coldness, and the part of his skin that touched it turned blue from the chill. But when Liebe touched it, nothing happened. When Alysa touched it, she felt it was cold as ice — though not as cold as Licht had felt it. When Elizabeth touched it, she felt it was simply as cold as steel.
Upon closer inspection, they noticed strange letters engraved on the lock.
Alysa said, "It seems various letters are engraved here."
Elizabeth added, "But these don't look like any letters we've learned in school."
Licht said, "Let's break it open. Light Magic: Piercing Light!"
Just as Licht attacked, a force was emitted from the lock that sent him flying.
Liebe shouted, "Licht, are you okay?"
"Yeah… I'm good," Licht replied.
Liebe approached the lock and examined the letters. "Oculus cordis obscuri," he read aloud.
Suddenly, the Cerberus statues on both sides of the door began to move. They raised their heads and howled, then came down from their podiums and bowed before Liebe. The doors opened by themselves.
As they entered, they heard a strange voice whisper, Cor oculi grisei.
Meanwhile, in the Black Rose mansion, Domr sensed the doors opening.
He rushed out and said, "Lilith, someone has opened the doors. There's a chance the mansion is under attack!"
Lilith responded, "Hold on, Father — we're about to go 50% the speed of light!"
Back in the cathedral, as everyone entered, they saw an abnormally shaped crystal and a floor made entirely of mirrors. Upon closer look, there was a strange sword embedded inside the crystal.
"Why is the room so hot?" Licht asked.
Elizabeth said, "It's perfectly chilly."
Alysa said, "I don't feel cold or hot."
Lucifer said, "I'm freezing here…"
Looking around the cathedral's interior, they saw that various crystals and mirrors had been positioned to ensure that 100% of the light coming from the glass ceiling would be reflected or refracted onto the central crystal.
Meanwhile, upon reaching the entrance of Black Rose, Lilith said, "Void Magic: Eternal Void!" and created a void portal, teleporting to the other side of the mansion.
"Gelda, where are the kids?" she asked urgently.
"I don't know… They were all playing here a while ago," Gelda replied.
Hearing Gelda's words, Lilith became horrified.
