Chapter 38 - AN ACCIDENT
What kind of hurdle was this? First, Andre suddenly died from being eaten by a werewolf. Second, he accidentally discovered the fact that it was his parents who created the werewolves from the start. Third, Blue suddenly disappeared.
After getting a call from Kris, Kevin rushed to a place where Kris was waiting for him. The taller man told him that he was currently at the café where Blue worked part-time.
Once again, Kevin drove his black sedan at high speed. His mind was still perplexed, but he wanted to quickly meet Kris so he could ask the young werewolf about the chronology of Blue's disappearance.
However, what was called desire did not always match expectations. Keen to get to the café to meet Kris, Kevin accelerated his car when he saw a yellow light flashing to replace the green light.
Unfortunately, the yellow light changed so quickly to red, but Kevin was too late to step on the brake pedal. From the left side of the intersection, a white car moved to cross the intersection. Kevin frantically tried to avoid his car from crashing into the white car. He turned the wheel as hard as he could as he continued to apply the brakes. Finally, he managed to avoid a collision with the car, but his car didn't stop in time and it hit an electric pole on the side of the road very hard.
The sound of the collision was so loud that it could be heard hundreds of meters from the scene. The sound of the loud crash also came over Kris, who was currently sitting nervously in the café. The café was probably only about four hundred meters away from the scene, so it was only natural that his sharp ears could immediately pick up on the sound waves.
The loud sound caught the werewolf's attention as he reflexively stood up. He didn't know why, but his heart suddenly started beating very fast after hearing the shockingly loud sound. Kris's head felt dizzy, and he had a bad feeling.
Kris quickly came out of the café, and once he was outside the café, he used his sharp senses to search for the source of the loud sound. It didn't take long until he found the source, and without thinking, he ran very fast towards the source of the sound.
From a distance, he saw a wrecked car surrounded by a crowd of people. It was at that moment that Kris's heart jumped from his chest as he recognized the black sedan that became the center of people's attention right now.
Putting his fear aside, Kris increased his running speed until he finally arrived at that location. He cut through the crowd, forcing them to let him get to the car that had just had an accident.
Kris felt like he lost his soul when he saw Kevin unconscious in the car. His head was bleeding, and his body was limply lying at the wheel of his car. With his trembling body, Kris struggled to open the car door, a little trouble because the car was completely wrecked, but his strength as a werewolf gave him quite an advantage.
And finally, he could force the car door open and he immediately pulled Kevin's helpless body out of the car. He laid the body on the hard cement surface while he rested the bleeding head on his lap.
"Kevin, wake up! Don't sleep, Kevin!" Kris tried to wake Kevin in a panic, but there was no movement from the human.
Until finally, Kris caught the sound of an ambulance siren that was getting closer to the place. Without further ado, he immediately picked Kevin up and ran to the ambulance, which had not even stopped moving. It was only when the ambulance stopped moving that he hurriedly put Kevin's body into the ambulance. He also got into the white car, sitting next to Kevin and held his cold hand.
"Please hold on, Kevin," the man whispered beside Kevin's ear. A tear fell from his usually sharp and cold eyes.
The ambulance was going fast as the sound of the siren forced the other vehicles to pull over and make way for the white vehicle. Minutes seemed like hours, it took so long for the vehicle to reach the hospital.
After twenty minutes that felt like twenty hours, the vehicle finally stopped in front of the emergency room of the hospital closest to the scene of Kevin's car accident. Kevin's body was quickly brought into the emergency room, while Kris waited anxiously outside the room.
He only prayed. He actually didn't know who prayed to because he had no faith, but he just hoped that nothing bad would happen to the scientist. If something bad happened, then Kris would blame himself for life.
After pacing back and forth in front of the emergency room, Kris finally decided to sit in one of the waiting chairs.
After a while, the young man seemed to remember something important, and he immediately dug his cellphone from his pants pocket. With trembling hands, he searched for a name within the thin rectangular object, and upon finding it, he immediately called the contact.
The thin object stuck to his left ear, and he patiently waited for the call to be answered by someone.
It didn't take long for the phone to connect, and Kris quickly spoke, "Kevin had an accident."
The person on the other end of the line seemed to be saying something, and Kris's face became more and more ruffled.
"I understand. If anything bad happened to Kevin, I will be responsible."
The phone call was cut off. Kris put his cellphone back into his pants pocket, and he rubbed his handsome face roughly.
He felt very sorry. He should have come to Kevin in his laboratory, he shouldn't have let Kevin drive when he was mentally unstable. He should have known that Kevin was not well and that it could be life threatening.
He should be, but everything had already happened. Kris did not have the ability to rewind time. The only thing he could do now was hoping that Kevin could still be saved.
An hour passed, and a doctor finally came out of the emergency room. Kris immediately got up from his seat and went straight to a doctor wearing a white coat.
"How is Kevin, Doctor?" Kris asked impatiently.
The doctor did not immediately answer Kris's question and instead asked in return, "Are you the patient's family?"
That question made Kris's cold sweat started to come out of his body. If doctors asked questions like that, it was usually a bad sign.
But, Kris brushed off his prejudice and quickly answered, "I'm his close friend."
After hearing Kris's answer, the middle-aged male doctor asked again, "Can you contact the patient's relatives and ask them to come? There are important things I have to tell the patient's relatives."
Kris was really nervous hearing what the doctor said. "Kevin's foster parents are currently abroad, so they can't possibly come here quickly. I'm the only person Kevin has a close relationship with, and you can talk to me," he explained the real condition.
The doctor seemed to consider Kris's request. There was a hint of doubt on his wrinkled face, but in the end, the middle-aged man relented and asked Kris to follow him to his office. Kris hurried behind the doctor heading to the doctor's office.
As soon as the two men of different ages arrived at the doctor's office, the two of them quickly sat across from one another, separated by a rectangular wooden table.
"So, how is Kevin's condition, Doctor?" Impatiently Kris asked again.
"The patient had a hard impact on his head, and the impact resulted in a fairly wide wound on his left temple. Because of the wound, the patient lost a lot of blood and was in a critical condition."
Kris's body went limp when he heard the doctor's explanation. His hunch was right. Something bad had happened to Kevin, and it made him feel tremendous fear in his heart.
"We immediately looked for a blood bag that matched the patient's blood type and intended to carry out a blood transfusion on the patient. We got the right blood bags and quickly carried out the transfusion process, but the patient's body was strangely rejecting the blood."
Kris seemed to widen his eyes at the doctor's explanation. "Then, what about Kevin's condition now? Wouldn't it be dangerous if he had lost a lot of blood?" He asked again.
The doctor looked at Kris with an unreadable gaze as he said, "That's what I want to ask the person closest to the patient. Did the patient have any abnormalities in his body before? The patient's body refused the blood to be transfused to him, but strangely, the patient's condition gradually improved even without getting a blood transfusion. Has that happened before?"
The doctor's question shocked Kris so hard, and his heart was racing again. His face conveyed a sense of extreme confusion, and it seemed like his brain was working out what scenario he would run next. The conditions were like this, and that meant Kevin's time would arrive soon.
After he considered everything carefully, Kris finally said, "I want to take Kevin home, Doctor."
