Chapter 414 Wizard and Divine_2
Swish!
With Nois's movement, Colin suddenly noticed a faint, dark outline appearing around the sphere in front of him.
"This is the Sub-star Realm," Nois accepted, then lightly tapped his finger again.
Swish!
Outside the faint black outline, a complex region suddenly appeared, parts as dark as the Sub-star Realm, others flickering with colorful flowing light, but mostly, it was shrouded in a misty gray.
"This is the Star Realm, the blank space between the worlds."
"If each world is compared to a glass bead submerged in water, then the Star Realm is like the water that envelops each glass bead.
The Star Realm is vast and mysterious, and our current knowledge of it is still very limited."
Nois felt somewhat emotional, then continued,
"But one thing is known—the Star Realm is not safe."
"These gods invaded from the Star Realm one day, a thousand years ago, with the aim of seeking faith and ruling this world.
As for the specific reason for the invasion, it is now unknown, some say we were simply unlucky to be targeted, others say it was because some Wizards ventured into the Star Realm and accidentally lured them here.
Regardless, this group of bizarre beings call themselves Divine and possess god-like power."
At this point, Nois suddenly smiled, "Perhaps if they had come a thousand years earlier, they could have taken over this world effortlessly."
"But we have just overthrown them, so how can we allow the light of humanity and knowledge to be extinguished and let the ignorant darkness descend once more?"
"From the moment of their birth, Wizards are destined to stand opposite the Divine," Nois remarked, gazing at Colin.
Colin nodded, deeply agreeing.
If he had to give up independent thought, immerse himself in ignorance, engage only in devout prayers daily, act according to rigid doctrines, and kneel fervently before the Divine... he certainly would not want that.
If he became such a puppet, manipulated by others, devoid of anything of his own, he would rather die.
After thinking for a moment, Colin spoke again, "What about that war? Lord Nois, could you tell me about the war a thousand years ago, where the Wizards were victorious?"
"I was just thinking about telling you about that war, the dreadful one where the Wizards nearly faced extinction."
Nois smiled, but his eyes gradually turned serious and sharp as he spoke.
"That war, strictly speaking, we didn't really win; if we had to describe it, it was a pyrrhic victory."
"A pyrrhic victory on the brink of extinction?" Colin was stunned; the version he had heard from the common folk was not like this.
In his inherent impressions, he had always believed that the Wizards had achieved a great victory back then…
"Yes, a pyrrhic victory," Nois sighed. "Where should I start?"
He stroked his chin's beard, "Hmm, a thousand years ago, this world had no Tainted babbling. Those Tainted babblings, which are left from the last great war, are the biggest scars on this world."
"The so-called Tainted babbling is also known by another name among the Divine Believers—'Divine Power.'"
"In fact, this term is not incorrect; those Tainted babblings are indeed products of the Divine. In the eyes of the ignorant Divine Believers, whenever they engage in what the Divine most detest—studying knowledge, which is to usurp the authority of the Divine—they will be punished and transformed into monstrous beings, neither human nor ghost."
"That indeed sounds quite ignorant," Colin shook his head.
Nois chuckled, "Yes, we know this is purely the negative impact brought by Tainted babbling; studying knowledge has nothing to do with the authority of the Divine.
But there will always be ordinary people who believe such rhetoric, and as long as their hearts waver slightly, the Divine can further manipulate their hearts through omnipresent Tainted babbling."
"The Divine can manipulate hearts through Tainted babbling?"
"Yes, not only ordinary people but Wizards can also be affected," Nois replied. "We still don't know exactly how it is done; sometimes even I hear strange but untraceable babblings."
"That sounds just like the legendary Divine," Colin was somewhat astonished.
"Yes," Nois rubbed the sphere beside him, his expression slightly stern.
"However, I believe they are not some omnipotent Divine; there must be reasons behind this that we have yet to understand," Colin said, his brows furrowed in thought.
In his previous life, he was a materialist, and even after coming to this world and witnessing these supernatural powers, he still held onto this view.
Whether it is practicing witchcraft or becoming a Knight, there is a consistent and reasonable logic behind it, not something achieved by a mere whim or by simply uttering a Spell.
He did not believe in any true idealist existence; if there were such things, they were surely misconceptions due to a lack of sufficient knowledge.
"That's right, they are not some omnipotent Divine," Nois looked at him, a trace of admiration flickering in his eyes.
"But they are indeed a formidable enemy," Nois continued,
"The war a thousand years ago cost the Wizards and all races a great price, and the blood even turned the seas red at one point.
But even so, the real battlefield of that war was outside this world, in the Sub-star Realm and the Star Realm."
