Chapter 414: Wizard and Divine
The truth of the world?
Colin almost subconsciously recalled the unprovoked words of Xize.
Had the Supreme Council truly been hiding something from ordinary Wizards?
Nois continued leading Colin deeper into the hall, next to the tall staircase where the Supreme Councilmen resided, there was an inconspicuous little door, which they opened with casting, revealing a narrow stone staircase.
However, this staircase did not lead downwards, but upwards.
Following the ancient staircase upwards, Nois finally brought Colin to the highest point of the building.
Colin surveyed his surroundings; this was a square platform, likely above the roof of the Council chamber below.
There were no walls, with a semi-transparent protective shield faintly enveloping the surroundings. In the center of the platform, there was a golden circular base, above which hovered a semi-transparent sphere, overall resembling the globes of Earth from his former life.
"Colin, when was the first time you heard the word 'Divine'?" Nois walked slowly toward the base in the middle of the platform.
"I can't quite remember, probably when I was very young," Colin answered.
The concept of the Divine, he had certainly heard of it in his former life, and the original owner of this world seemed to have known about it before being taken to Blackstone Island.
"Have you ever wondered where They all came from?" Nois reached out his hand toward the golden base and suddenly asked again.
"The Divine... where did they come from?" Colin was slightly stunned, searching his memory, but could not find any answer.
Click, click—
Gears within the golden circular base meshed together and suddenly began to move,
"The concept of the Divine has always existed, but 'Divine' beings only appeared a thousand years ago," Nois continued to say.
"Of course, the Divine that we spoke of earlier and these creatures that now call themselves Divine are not the same."
"In the ignorant ages, people feared the natural world's power, so they conjured up nonexistent Divine as a spiritual crutch.
But these were mere mental crutches for ordinary people, insubstantial and not truly existing. Even if they did exist, they were probably just Demon Beasts or Spirit Monsters."
"However, during humanity's feeble and ignorant period, Wizards had not appeared yet, and everyone firmly believed in the existence of the Divine; Knights formed the Church and governed in the name of the divine.
This went on for nearly ten thousand years until the Wizards from Yanan appeared over three thousand years ago."
"Through researching the Church's Clergy, he understood that the mighty power bestowed by the Divine was just like fire, a natural product, and that anyone with a certain Talent could wield this so-called divine power."
"Thus, the Magic Power Revolution began, Wizards appeared, and overturned the rule of the Church Court."
"The brilliance of human nature and knowledge began to shine, and the people gradually realized that there were no Divine in the world, and that all the fearful unknown phenomena could ultimately be explained with logic and knowledge."
"Then came a period of glory, the fall of the Church, the uprising of the Magic Power Revolution... which led to an explosion of all sorts of knowledge, the power of Wizards grew ever stronger, soon surpassing the Elves, surpassing the Giant Dragons to become the true masters of this world."
Nois spoke in a gentle voice, his magnetic tone as if bringing Colin back to those glorious years, stirring his heart.
So this was the history of this world.
It used to be a world ruled by the Church, and Wizards had only appeared over three thousand years ago?
The Magic Power Revolution, how similar it was to the Industrial Revolution of his former world, only that the difference in worlds resulted in different manifestations.
Hmm... If one were to think about it that way, considering the timing of the first Industrial Revolution on Earth, over three thousand years was actually not a short period, amounting to around the 50th century of his former life.
Knowledge indeed was the primary productive force, in any world... Colin felt a touch of sentiment.
Had it not been for the Magic Power Revolution, this world might still be ruled by the Church, filled with ignorance and naiveté.
But if the Divine of the past were all false, then where did these current Divine come from?
Hum—
At that moment, the golden device in front of them fully activated, and the originally semi-transparent sphere suddenly became solid.
'Is this really a globe?' Colin was slightly taken aback.
After the semi-transparent sphere became solid, it revealed the very image of the planet below them.
Facing them was a huge brown area; Colin could spot some familiar mountains and plains, clearly the Siya Continent.
"This is the full view of our Yanan world; it's spherical, somewhat unbelievable, isn't it?" Nois said with a smile.
"Indeed, somewhat unbelievable..." Colin looked up at the pitch-black sky and replied softly.
From any angle, it appeared to be a planet, but at such great heights, no other celestial bodies could be seen... Was the Yanan world truly situated in the universe?
Colin felt somewhat adrift in his heart; he had indeed come to a parallel world utterly different from his former life.
Not only was there the existence of Wizards, but even the universe seemed completely different from his former life.
No wonder he had been unable to figure out stable electricity like in his former life.
"Lord Nois, you haven't told me where these current Divine actually come from," Colin continued to ask.
Nois did not play coy and touched the model of the Yanan world in front of him, saying, "They come from the Star Realm."
