The Bizarre Wizarding World

Chapter 410: The Highest One_3

Wizards possessed remarkable agility, requiring fewer than a hundred First Rank Wizards to oversee the extensive walls of Golden Barley City.

Perhaps it was because lower-ranked cave creatures were easier to drive, so when the monster wave arrived, the vanguard mostly consisted of apprentice-stage monsters, with only a few First Rank monsters interspersed among them.

But based on centuries-old experience, the intensity of the monster wave would escalate within just an hour to a level that even a Fourth Rank Wizard would have to carefully contend with.

By then, First Rank cave creatures would become the main force, and the appearance of Second Rank and Third Rank cave creatures would no longer be rare.

Fortunately, in history, despite numerous monster waves originating from the cave, creatures of the Fourth Rank had never appeared; otherwise, it would surely be a monumental disaster for the wizards.

"I must reduce the damage to the farmlands as much as possible while there's still time," Shelley suddenly said as she turned to look at Colin, "Golden Barley City is in your hands."

"Do you plan to attempt destroying those contaminated mushrooms?"

"Mhm," Shelley nodded lightly, "Saving some farmland counts for something."

Colin furrowed his brow, pondering for a moment before saying, "I'll go with you."

The safety of Roon Kingdom's farmlands was a concern not just for the people living there, but for every wizard, including himself.

More so, he was troubled by some of the things Xize had said in battle before.

"You have no idea what the Supreme Council has hidden from you… This world is on the brink of destruction, and only the wise will continue to live…"

Divine beings were the greatest enemies of wizards, and he was determined to thwart the divine schemes for his own benefit if nothing else!

Moreover, in the current Roon Kingdom, he was the highest authority; if he didn't stand firm now, there would be no one else to hold up the collapsing sky.

If he did nothing now and, as a result, a few people were crushed to death, bolstering the adversary's morale, and its power increased under the force of gravity… it would probably be much harder to withstand later!

And… Colin glanced over the bustling city, and as someone who had traveled from a former life, he still couldn't see these ordinary people beneath his feet as disposable dust and straw.

Saving some fields now could mean saving more people during the likely upcoming famine.

Shelley was slightly taken aback upon hearing Colin's words, but she quickly showed a smile.

"Alright," she nodded and flew out of the city alongside Colin.

It was unreasonable to force one's own views on others, so Shelley did not presume that Colin would join her in this dangerous and mostly thankless task.

But Colin volunteered to come along, which made Shelley realize once again that he was fundamentally different from those wizards who considered themselves noble but were actually arrogant and foolish.

'…It's hard to imagine how he grew to be this way.'

Ash-like spores drifted down slowly like a black snowfall. Shelley raised a Protective Shield and weaved through them, casting an involuntary glance at Colin.

Boom!

Colin summoned the Fire Element with a wave of his hand.

With their flying speed, it only took a blink of an eye to reach the nearest contaminated mushroom.

Bang!

The Second Rank Fire Element's body suddenly swelled and transformed into a towering Fire Shield that rapidly enveloped the nearest mushroom, scorching it.

Shelley, unwilling to be outdone, flashed a hint of blue, and another nearby mushroom instantly turned into an ice sculpture, its spores also trapped within the ice crystals.

However, the life force of the contaminated mushrooms was incredibly robust; mere freezing could only temporarily restrict its spread and was insufficient for immediate extermination.

"You focus on freezing the spores in the air to suppress their dispersal, and I'll handle killing the larger mushrooms," Colin suggested gravely.

"Okay!" Shelley nodded decisively.

Then, she closed her eyes slightly, her snow-colored hair moving without any wind, and a cold blue aura rapidly spread outward from her forehead.

Shelley turned into a semi-translucent icy figure in an instant!

Hum—

A spherical burst of White Light suddenly erupted from Shelley's forehead. Colin felt a chill as it swept past him, but the drifting gray-black spores each became coated with a layer of white frost, turning the black snow white once again.

Then, gusts of cold wind, from an unknown origin, swept up the frosted spores, gathering them into large balls and solidifying them in place.

"No! How is it possible, how can you be a Second Rank Wizard too!" Xize, in Colin's palm, finally reacted with repeated exclamations of shock.

"Well done," Colin was also pleased to see this.

It was not easy for an ordinary wizard to perform operations of such a large scope and with such precision… Shelley truly lived up to being an Ice Elf.

In this way, the two cooperated to save the farmland before them.

Shelley's Frost Power greatly hindered the spread of the contaminated mushrooms, while Colin summoned another Ice Element to assist Shelley, and simultaneously burned the mushrooms and spores collected by Shelley, lightening her burden and freeing her up to continue freezing the mushroom spores.

Thanks to this efficient collaboration, they surprisingly found that their efforts were not as futile as Xize had claimed. They had significantly contained the pollution from the mushrooms!

During this time, a few Second Rank cave creatures also emerged from the cave, which Colin disposed of one by one with his fists, to Shelley's astonishment.

After a short while, an extremely formidable figure arrived first to provide support.

Without a doubt, it was Shelley's mentor—Silvester.
