Chapter 408: Begin Early (6k Big Chapter!) _3
The Third Rank Wizard arched his eyebrows, about to speak, when he heard Colin's stern reminder from the side:
"They are traitors who have pledged allegiance to the Divine!"
Erwin, who was kneeling, froze in place, lifting his head.
"That waste exposed us, did he?" The murky figure's tone became more serious, "It seems we must dispose of you quickly."
Erwin looked astonished; was this Third Rank Wizard truly an enemy of the Divine?
"Run! Scatter and run!" He made a decision in his heart, shouting to those behind him, then turning to lock eyes with Colin for a moment before charging at the murky figure without hesitation!
Colin also timely summoned the six blazing figures, and at the same time, six Frost figures emerged, surrounding the murky figure from all sides!
The bright white and deep blue lights dazzled against each other, their presence undeniably staggering.
'Twelve Second Rank Advanced Elemental Summonings?!' Erwin's jaw almost dropped in shock.
Colin had indeed given him another scare!
At the same time, it seemed to offer a glimpse of hope for victory.
He had originally intended to face the enemy with Colin, to create time for his family's escape... but now, was the final outcome still undetermined?
Seeing such a magnificent scene, the murky figure also paused,
"Did I underestimate you? Are you really just Second Rank?"
Colin remained silent, cautiously approaching with the Elemental Shadows, while he and Erwin skirted around, looking for an opportunity.
"You don't really think that a dozen Second Rank Elemental Creatures can take on a Third Rank Wizard, do you?" The murky figure smiled faintly, "Today, let me show you the gap between a High Rank Wizard and yourself!"
The distinction between a Wizard's Second Rank and Third Rank separates the Low Ranks from the High Ranks.
Those of Third Rank and above are High Rank Wizards, while those below are Low Rank Wizards. There is no such thing as a Middle Rank, just as there is no transitional stage between a Wizard Apprentice and an Official Wizard.
This is a chasm-like disparity.
Colin was aware but not fully understanding, however, now, he finally comprehended.
"Elemental Life is the product of Spirit and Magic Power combining, the structure woven of spiritual power is its core, and the Elemental Energy transformed from Magic Power is flesh that clings to the core."
The murky figure strolled, speaking softly, "If those you controlled were mindless flesh monsters, I might fear them indeed, as I am not here in true form...
But these Elementals, crafted of spirit, to a High Rank Wizard, are but bubbles easily burst."
As his words fell, the surrounding Elemental Shadows suddenly began to shake violently, first losing their humanoid form, then collapsing altogether.
Colin could feel that the Third Rank Wizard before him had used some method to bypass the Elemental Shadows' outer defenses and directly destroy their spirit cores.
"Attack!" There was no time for hesitation; with a low shout, he and Erwin charged at the murky figure.
The latter was not as relaxed as he appeared, with Elemental Shadows dissolving around him at a rate of one every few seconds, his own murky glow rapidly fading.
Seeing Colin and Erwin approach, he chose to temporarily retreat, quickly moving backward.
"A Third Rank Wizard with so little strength, only knows how to flee?!" Erwin shouted.
But the murky figure seemed indifferent, retreating incessantly, completely ignoring the grace he'd displayed earlier.
Erwin, frustrated, sped up even more.
He knew that now was their only hope for victory; otherwise, once the murky figure dealt with the surrounding Elemental Shadows and was free to act, there would be no more hopes of winning.
Fortunately, as he had said, the murky figure was not present in true form; his flight was not quick, even slower than theirs due to his distraction with the Elemental Shadows.
However, just as Erwin thought this and felt he was about to catch up to the murky figure, the latter abruptly stopped.
"The true difference between Third Rank and Second Rank lies in the soul. Take a basic spiritual attack from me and let's see if you can endure longer than the Elemental Lives."
Erwin finally understood what method the Third Rank Wizard used to deal with the Elemental Shadows—because he had received the same attack.
The sensation was hard to describe; it was as if a red-hot steel spike suddenly plunged into his brain, bringing not heat but bone-chilling cold, along with a sourness, no, a burning pain, and even sweetness, like the taste of sugar...
In the dizzying, complex sensations, Erwin suddenly heard the sound of something breaking.
What followed was an excruciating pain radiating from his forehead to his whole body, as if being roasted over a fire.
Erwin suddenly realized—it was his own Spirit Sea, shattering along with his soul.
Thump.
His swiftly flying body suddenly lost its power, plummeting towards the ground like a falling rock, creating a crater on impact, then rolling far forward.
Dust billowed, silencing the animals in the forest.
The murky figure let out a soft chuckle.
Boom!
But in the next second, a fist suddenly appeared before his eyes!
"What?!"
In the nick of time, he tried to dodge, but was still struck on his right shoulder, his entire shoulder along with his arm instantly reduced to dust!
But this body, constructed of the soul, should not be harmed by ordinary physical attacks!
And there was also...
"Why are you unharmed?!"
