The Backbender (Avatar: The Last Airbender)

The air around the temple started spinning like a tornado was passing through. Fei was on her knees with her eyes white and tears on her cheeks as she was in front of a skeleton.

The skeleton was Monk Gyatso, who died a century ago due to the Fire Nation attack on the temple.

"Fei! Please, stop this. If you don't, the entire temple will be ripped apart from the wind!" Kanuk grabbed Sokka by his arm and held him back from being blown away. Katara clung to his chest as Kanuk embraced her from the waist.

Fei looked up when she heard a murmur behind her. Kanuk smiled as he felt the wind start to get lesser and lesser by the second. He put Sokka and Katara down gently.

Before he walked towards Fei. Kanuk smiled as he felt the wind surround him. He entered the wind ball that Fei was inside and noticed that it was difficult to see, even with his eyesight.

"Fei, listen to me, okay? I know how you feel, trust me. My tribe was slaughtered for a century by the Fire Nation." Kanuk shielded his eyes as the fierce wind crashed into his face.

Fei's attention was caught, and she looked back. Kanuk smiled as he saw that he caught her attention.

"You have a choice now. Either you give up and run away from your responsibility. Or, I can help you in your responsibilities by being by your side through it." Kanuk smiled as Fei started walking towards him. She stopped a few inches from his face and looked up.

"So, what do you think- Uhhh!" Kanuk smiled as he looked down at her, waiting for her answer. What he got from her, instead, was a kiss on the lips. Kanuk immediately retreated with shock.

"Fei?... What was that?" Kanuk looked at Fei with a questioning look as he touched his lips. He does not know why she just did that... He did not really hate it either...

The wind around Fei started calming down, but the windball kept them encased inside, shielding the outside view from reaching inside the windball.

Fei's eyes returned to normal, and she looked down at the ground with red eyes from crying and red cheeks as she knew what she had done with Kanuk.

"Kanuk... I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. An urge to do that welled up inside my chest. Please. I don't know what it means, but I don't hate the feeling." Fei looked at Kanuk with confused eyes. She does not know anything about love or what it means.

She has been isolated and barely allowed to talk with children or the opposite sex since she was found out to be the avatar. The only one she communicated to was the Monks.

Now that she is free from the iceberg, she is instantly met with Kanuk. The opposite race, he is charming and knows how to have fun. He is also a good person.

He helped her with her water bending, and now he said he would help her with the responsibilities as the avatar. She doesn't know what happened, but her chest feels full when she is near him.

She... wants to be like Katara is to him. She wants to be, but something is stopping her from that, and that is Kanuk. She does not know if he feels like that.

Kanuk looked at Fei, and he rubbed the back of his head. He averted her eyes as he thought about what happened here. He can't lie and say he did not feel anything from that.

At the end of the day, Kanuk is a man and a human. He can commit mistakes like everybody else, and the mistake he committed here is that he Did not oppose Fei.

"Fei. I don't know what this means, but I did not hate it either. Let's be friends and act like it has never happened. We will see in the future where this takes us." Fei looked down in sadness as she nodded. Kanuk sighed before the wind ball around him vanished.

"Fei!" Katara ran at Fei with worry in her eyes, and she jumped onto her to embrace her. Her feelings for the girl in front of her are complicated. On one hand, she is jealous of how close she is to Kanuk.

But on the other hand, she is also not as mad as she should be. She still doesn't like how close she acts with Kanuk, but she also won't go out of her way to stop it.

Plus, she saw how Kanuk never rejected Fei outright when she was too close to him. She did not bring it up since it might sour their relationship. It may even make him look like a paranoic woman obsessed with him.

"Yo! That was totally not cool. But I get the crash out." Sokka wiped the sweat on his brows as he stared at the skeletons around him. He felt disgusted the more he looked.

"Fei, Katara, and Sokka. We should get going since there is nothing here." Kanuk said as he watched Fei hang her arm around Katara's shoulder. She was weakened temporarily due to the avatar state.

"Shouldn't we rest? I mean, Fei is not in the right mind." Katara looked up at Kanuk with concern as she asked the question. Fei looked at Katara with a smile before reassuring her.

"No, I am fine. We should get going." Kanuk smiled as the four turned around and went back to Appa. Upon getting onto his back, the 5 flew back into the air.

The ride was silent. Fei was taken care of by Katara. Sokka was snoring as he leaned back, and Kanuk decided it was time to step up his training on other things, not just his bending.

Kanuk felt shame fill his eyes as he saw the level of his chi skills. He can not believe he did not even try to raise them to level 10. Kanuk closed his eyes as he sat in a meditation pose.

'Okay. I should be able to train Chi like Chakra is trained in Naruto. It should work since they are almost the same.' Kanuk thought as he pulled a leaf out of his hair.

Pressing the leaf against his forehead, Kanuk pulled Chi towards it, but it was not stable. A few seconds later, Chi finally arrived, and Kanuk stuck it to the leaf.

"Hmmm... It works." Kanuk opened his eyes as the leaf fell into his lap. The leaf stuck to his head for a second before it dropped. The experience of his Chi sense and Control went up.

It was faster than when he moved the Chi inside his body. Plus, he gains Chi-related exp 2 times faster due to his attributes. Making his experience gain in these 2 skills faster.

"In 5 days, I should be able to get them both to level 8 to level 10. We might arrive at Kiyoshi Island by that time as well. Kanuk muttered under his breath as he felt his energy.

Kanuk subconsciously looked at Katara and Fei, and he smiled as he noticed how close they were. Kanuki turned serious before committing to his training.

Guys, did I portray the feelings of Kanuk and Fei as realistic? I want to make an MC who makes mistakes in his life, not a perfect MC who gets a harem out of nowhere.
