The Apocalyptic Command: A Military Isekai LitRPG

Chapter 39: Construction

The sound of machinery permeates the surroundings, the rolling and twisting of joints, to which would then one would expect a dirty and disgusting scene, but is actually quite clean and immensely efficient. The rotten carcasses of the ghouls were disposed of and burned off in a far distance.

Meanwhile, the construction droids flattened the land, and the excess soil was transported to another site to be stockpiled later. After which, they idled around, moving back and forth as if guarding the perimeter and occasionally stopping once in a while to check the foundation of the soil and research it for further studies at a later date.

The harvester droid that was sent to clear the bodies of the ghouls had finished its work and has now since joined the ranks of the other two harvester droids. With the arrival of the third droid, the other two harvesters focused on harvesting wood, whilst the other droid focused on gathering useful plant matter that could be turned into fiber and gathering food that could be eaten.

In the meantime, as there are no proper resources to construct everything immediately, the construction droids opted to establish a temporary encampment where the bare minimum could be produced for the meantime, as the foundation of the base starts to take online and functions, with of course the approval from the Emperor himself, Quagmire.

Meanwhile, the last three harvester droids, with the help of the logistics droids, have started a mine, first, by digging and then creating support beams and foundational elements to support mining. It did not go into large-scale mining, as the numbers of droids and resources are too few and could take up a lot of much-needed energy and resources. Being efficient in the meantime is the most important thing.

The humming of machinery and the sound of metals being smashed, twisting, and rubbing together, sparks a contrast to its calm surroundings dominated by nature itself. It sweet, woody smell creates a barrier, not letting the cold, bland smell of metals overpower its scent and instead restricting it in a single space.

It was a war in itself, the war of colors and diversity of nature, against the cold, bland, and invasive parasite of a growing factory, seeking to grow and plunder the resources around it as it continues to expand, creating more and more of itself, until it conquers the entire world with its cheap and efficient products.

The trees sway with cheer and the cold breeze of the wind resists with fury. The battle seemingly took itself to new heights.

Meanwhile, on a far side corner, Quagmire was sitting down, browsing through the Adjutant system, making plans for the future of his nascent empire.

'First of all, I need to secure the foundation, which means setting up the most basic basics comes first. I must have a source of water and a source of food. Though I could do that in the meantime, I need to have the construction droids secure, which are the most important things. That is resources! Lots and lots of resources! I might not have a variety of resources, but there's nothing wrong with hoarding resources that I could use for the future, is it not? Very well!' Quagmire, having come to a conclusion, heaved a sigh of relief and looked over into the surroundings.

The construction droids have now started pilling up woods and plant matter in a part of the area; by this time, the entire area is made up of one big flattened box, with the Central Power Beacon being at the center of the place. The mine was at the back of the base, and concurrently, he was facing the front of the flattened land.

With that thought in mind, he chose to have storage areas be at the front, and the other critical infrastructure be built at the back and in the middle of the surroundings. Now that he had the basic blueprint built in his mind, he decided to pull up the blueprint shop and look for the blueprints of the things that he would require.

For starters, he bought three blueprints: the Storage Facility, The Maintenance Facility, and the Comfort Facility. Yes, a comfort facility should be established first so that proper sewage and waste disposal can be established immediately; as for the maintenance facility, it was pretty self-explanatory, as it was the facility dedicated to maintaining the facilities and everything in the base.

Lastly, before the proper storage facility is established, they would have to establish a temporary storage facility first, as he does not have the proper resources to properly establish that sort. With the temporary storage facility, he could let go of all his droids to continue mining and gathering resources so that there would not be any idling, and so the situation and time would be maximized to its finest.

With efficient and continuous gathering, he would be able to maximize his economy, and there would be fewer bumps on the road, as whenever he needs something, the resources would already be available immediately.

With those things in mind, he had already spent twelve thousand gold coins, as each of those blueprints cost four thousand gold coins to unlock. Thankfully, those blueprints would now be accessible to the command center, and he would no longer have to buy it again, except for buying the next tier it, which requires a lot of gold coins.

He does not need to spend more gold coins on the things that have already been researched unless it's for the next tier. He just needs the right resources for it, and those right resources are not gold coins, but instead, the raw materials that he would require are the most important things.

Hence, he needs to be always gathering resources so that he can continue building and not hit a cap that would severely underestimate his capabilities, which would then lead to economic stagnation or, even worse, deflation, and every economist's worst nightmare.

Pushing those thoughts at the very back of his mind, with a firm grasp on his goals and mind, he stood up and started ordering the droids on its emplacements and where to establish the temporary facilities and the future completion of the facilities. Moreover, he placed the temporary ones in a single corner, somewhere where there was nothing that could impede it or anyone from moving or any construction plans.

After commanding the droids, Quagmire once again moved out and sat down beside a tree, looking over into the surroundings. This time, once again formulating plans in his head

'Now that those things are done, I wonder how long would it take for those temporary facilities to be finished? I am particularly quite excited about the prospect of a superior latrine or comfort room, as it was called by Adjutant System.

Anyway, I am dozing off far too much these times; it seems that my lack of sleep and the fatigue I am experiencing after arriving in this world are getting the better of me; it was finally taking a heavy toll on me. I now only have five thousand four hundred fifty gold coins, each blueprint costing me four thousand gold coins each.

Not only that, I have to stockpile a lot of ammunition into my spatial storage so that whenever things get a little bit spicy, I would, at the very least, have the capacity to sustain a prolonged fight.

Unfortunately, looking over into my current ambitions and the surrounding things, I still have a long way to go, but then again, the devil waits for no angel. Which means I have to double my efforts and improve myself. As I would soon have to go out and kill more of those disgusting ghouls, a poor sorry of an excuse to be called something as part of my humanity.' With those things in mind, Quagmire heaved once again a mouthful of air.

Quagmire glanced from left to right, and up to down. The droids were working as perfectly as they could; after knowing that, he looked over at himself, and a downward smile began to form on his expression.

Traces of the battle from earlier could still be seen in his battered uniform; his Mark 1 Pistol and Mark 1 Bolt-Action Rifle were both still dirty and still needed to be cleaned, and with that, he stood up. With a firm grasp on his mind, he brought another set of uniforms, as he decided against making a new type of uniform, as the current one he uses still perfectly suits what he needs.

With one last look at the working droids, he walked over the bush and moved towards the direction where the river was; thankfully, the river was a lot nearer than the last one earlier, where he was simultaneously attacked by ghouls and sea creatures where he was also forced to defend himself buck naked. Such a thing must never be repeated if he is to take these jobs seriously.
