The Accidental Savior

Chapter 7: Welcome to Magnolia (Kind of)

The first thing Nick Romero noticed as he stepped through the glowing portal into the Fairy Tail world was the smell. It was crisp, clean, and tinged with the faint aroma of bread baking somewhere nearby. He blinked a few times, letting his eyes adjust to the sunlight streaming down on a dirt road lined with fields of wildflowers and a distant town in view.

"Alright," he muttered, looking around, "this doesn't look like immediate death. That's a nice change."

The Good God's voice echoed faintly in his mind before fading entirely: May your journey be fruitful.

"Yeah, thanks for the pep talk," Nick said sarcastically to no one in particular. He adjusted the small satchel slung over his shoulder—a courtesy from Harmony Haven containing a few basic supplies—and started walking toward the town.

he landscape was stunning. Rolling hills stretched out in every direction, dotted with clusters of trees and the occasional farmhouse. A river snaked its way through the fields, its waters glittering in the sunlight.

"This is... kinda nice," Nick admitted. "No killer monsters. No death flags. Just fields and sunshine. I can get used to this."

As he walked, he noticed a few locals tending to their farms. A cheerful man in a straw hat waved as Nick passed, prompting him to wave back awkwardly.

"Excuse me," Nick called out, stopping near the fence of a small farm. "Can you tell me where I am?"

The farmer leaned on his pitchfork, eyeing Nick curiously. "You're on the road to Magnolia. Just keep heading straight."

"Magnolia," Nick repeated, feeling a jolt of recognition. "That's where the Fairy Tail guild is, right?"

The farmer chuckled. "Aye. You can't miss it. Just follow the noise."

Nick frowned. "Noise?"

"You'll see," the farmer said with a knowing grin.

As Nick began walking, his thoughts wandered. It wasn't the beauty of the world that occupied his mind, but the one he'd left behind—the one that still haunted him.

Sophia.

The name hit him like a sucker punch every time he thought of her. His ex-girlfriend. The woman he'd loved and let slip away because he couldn't get his act together. He could still picture her, the way her eyes crinkled when she smiled, the way she'd tilt her head when she was annoyed.

"She deserved better," Nick mumbled, his hands tightening around the strap of his satchel.

He'd tried not to think about her since arriving in this insane multiverse situation. But the Wives System's constant chatter about forming bonds and potential partners wasn't helping.

"Seriously," he muttered. "How the hell am I supposed to move on, let alone start a harem?"

As if on cue, the Wives System AI buzzed to life.

"Reminder: Building meaningful connections is key to strengthening your role in the multiverse!"

Nick groaned. "Oh, great. Here we go again."

The glowing screen appeared beside him, projecting itself from his satchel. He frowned, realizing he hadn't actually examined the "cellphone" properly yet.

"Wait a minute," he said, picking up the device. It was sleek and modern, with a polished metal edge and a glowing symbol on the back. "This thing looks like... a freaking iPhone. What is this, the iPhone 16 Pro Multiverse Edition?"

"Your device is optimized for multiversal navigation," the AI chirped. "In addition to managing your bonds, it functions as a standard communication device."

Nick raised an eyebrow. "Standard communication? What am I supposed to do, text Natsu? Send Lucy a meme?"

The AI ignored his sarcasm. "You may also use it to store information, track missions, and access the Nexus Chamber remotely."

Nick turned the device over in his hands, then unlocked it out of habit. Sure enough, the home screen looked eerily familiar—complete with apps. There was even a camera.

He tapped it out of curiosity, raising the phone to snap a photo of the landscape. The screen flashed, and a perfect image appeared.

"Yup," he muttered. "It's an iPhone. This just keeps getting weirder."

Nick stuffed the phone back into his satchel and continued walking, muttering under his breath.

"Look, I get that this whole system is supposed to help me or whatever. But have you considered how absurd it is to build a harem? I can barely handle one relationship, let alone a dozen!"

The AI responded cheerfully, "The Wives System is not about quantity but quality. Each bond contributes to your growth and the stability of the worlds you visit."

Nick rolled his eyes. "Yeah, well, try explaining that to Sophia. Pretty sure she'd laugh me out of the room if I told her I was stuck in a cosmic matchmaking app."

He paused, frowning. "Actually, she'd probably just shake her head and call me an idiot. Again."

The AI's voice softened slightly. "Emotional conflict is natural. Your journey is designed to challenge and strengthen your character."

Nick scowled. "Yeah, well, this 'journey' feels more like cosmic bullying."

The AI interrupted again. "Analyzing nearby plotlines and compatible individuals... Scanning... Scanning..."

Nick groaned. "Do I want to know?"

The AI ignored his reluctance. "High compatibility detected with individuals Erza Scarlet, Lucy Heartfilia, and Mirajane Strauss!"

Nick stopped dead in his tracks, staring at the glowing screen. "Nope. No. Not happening."

"Forming bonds with key characters strengthens your role in the multiverse," the AI explained.

Nick shook his head, continuing down the path. "Yeah, and what happens to the story if I mess with their relationships? What about Jellal? Isn't he supposed to end up with Erza? Or Natsu and Lucy? Pretty sure they're the fandom's OTP."

"Jellal's arc does not require romantic involvement with Erza for resolution," the AI replied calmly. "Their connection is meaningful but not integral to the plot's stability."

Nick raised an eyebrow. "So you're saying it's fine to swoop in and rewrite their love lives as long as the story doesn't break?"

"Correct!"

Nick let out a long sigh. "You're lucky I'm seven and don't have to deal with this nonsense yet."

The AI continued, oblivious to his frustration. "Additionally, Lucy's primary role as the guild's heart and Natsu's anchor is unaffected by romantic developments."

Nick groaned again. "I swear, you've got an answer for everything, don't you?

As Nick crested a hill, Magnolia came into view, its bustling streets and towering buildings a welcome sight after the long walk. In the distance, the Fairy Tail guild hall stood proudly, its emblem shining in the sunlight.

"Well," Nick said, adjusting his satchel. "That's not subtle at all."

The closer he got to the town, the louder it became. Shouts, laughter, and the occasional explosion echoed from the direction of the guild hall.

"So that's what the farmer meant by noise," Nick muttered.

The AI chimed in. "Fairy Tail is known for its energetic and lively atmosphere. Prepare for unique interpersonal dynamics."

Nick scowled. "Yeah, thanks for the pep talk, Siri. Real helpful."

As he entered the town, a group of kids ran past him, laughing and chasing each other. Shopkeepers called out to customers, and the smell of fresh bread wafted through the air. It felt... alive.

For a moment, Nick let himself smile. This world, chaotic as it might be, didn't seem so bad.

Nick stopped outside the towering doors of the Fairy Tail guild hall, taking a deep breath. He could hear laughter, shouting, and the occasional crash from inside.

"Alright," he said, steeling himself. "Time to see what Fairy Tail is really like."
