Chapter 5: Let Me Read Your Soul Before You Die
'Release it and get over here.'
Within less than a second two things happened: Rebecca materialized next to Struns and the building shook violently before dangerously swaying.
Cramnal wanted to comment on Rebecca spirit walking but he knew now was not the time so he simply pursed his lips in frustration.
Suddenly the hall before them extended as the blue flames continued to dissipate and fall back. Another frustrated roar came from the far end of the corridor. Its power washed over them harmlessly like a gentle breeze on a warm spring day. Rachel casually sneered.
She walked slowly at first, her pace gradually quickening. The others followed suit until they all seemed to glide in a rush to their target.
Marce felt their approach. His eyes wide in confusion and a bit of terror as he frantically attempted to think of possible countermeasures.
In the end he was simply too slow.
Marce was one of the Trannisa Conglomerate's vice presidents. He handled all of the government's mystical related issues, concerns, and violations. There were two other vice presidents and two presidents over the government's mysticism department.
One president handled mystical items, potions and materials as well as how they were distributed to individuals within the government. The other two vice presidents were under him.
The other president, whom Marce reported to, Andalin-Black, was over personnel who could utilized mystical items and materials and who had abilities beyond those of normal humans – within the government.
Andalin-Black and spoken with the other president Ashan-White about holding a ritual to change the Milana and got her approval. He could not have moved forward without the approval of the White President because he would need materials and mystical items to properly conduct the ritual.
Marce knew all of this so he naturally thought that there was no possibility for failure.
If he had believed he could have failed he would never have chosen this ritual site.
Because the realm thrived due to mysticism there were ritual sites all over Trannisa. But this site was exceptionally powerful because it sealed an abomination within its depths that immense power could be siphoned from.
And Rachel had Rebecca unleash this havoc seemingly without a care.
Pain welled up from minute recesses within Marce. It seemed like his marrow, his minute nerve endings, and the very atoms comprising his form cried out in pain.
His mouth opened wide in a soundless cry of agony as his face lifted upwards.
A form with shimmering rainbow skin appeared behind him. His face calm and no malice in his heart.
Marce had rushed and forced Anis into a ritual, after attempting to subjugate her soul and thus her will, and it all backfired.
Now his life was forfeit due to his arrogance.
The backlash was like a white hot whip that cut into his very existence. He felt as if he was being torn from the fabric of fate; as if his existence was slowly eroding from the realm.
He knew the being below had been unleashed and he knew it knew the initiator of the ritual.
A fear like no other thundered through his psyche. His body trembled as his mind went blank. And so he never felt the spirit blade smoothly enter his well of consciousness and stall his thoughts and disconnect him from the information well of the realm.
Suddenly Rachel's voice was in his ear. It was soft and sultry and he smelled hints of Muir and amber. "You are making it too easy." He heard the smile on her lips.
Just as Marce's mind cleared and his body was beginning to instinctively move Rachel exploded into action.
She stomped her foot and the floor, rippling with rainbow colors, warmed, and stilled, and her right fist connected with Marce's jaw.
Marce flew backward at an incredible speed only for him to arrive just before a wall with Rachel waiting. Her leg coming down on his chest before he could hit the wall, reverse his momentum, or hit the floor. He felt his chest cave but he also felt an icy calm.
Time seemed to pause and his consciousness seemed to be surrounded by a formless bubble, its wound numbed within barrier.
Rachel's voice seemed to echo from several distant voids within his soul realm. "Why does the Conglomerate want to change the Milana and why choose Anis and not Trinn."
Marce sneered inwardly determined to never respond when he was startled by his own voice, sounding ethereal and distant. Was Rachel reading his soul and he was not even dead?! He was not even given a chance to resist.
Rachel listened quietly. Cramnal, Rebecca, and Struns patiently waiting.
