Chapter 2: Breached
The alarm continued to blare, but Alan did not show any signs of waking up, sleeping peacefully. Even Ezekiel's repeated banging of the door did not manage to wake him up.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Ezekiel continued hitting the door while yelling for Alan to open up.
Alan finally woke up after a minute or so, asking with a sleepy voice, "Wha… what's going on?"
His eyes widened when he heard the alarm, jumping up at the realization of what was happening, "We're being attacked."
Ezekiel continued banging on the door, "Alan!"
Alan turned to the door, before hurriedly picking up his bag, "Coming."
Just as he opened the door, Ezekiel's enraged face came into view, "What the hell is wrong with you? How can you sleep through this?"
"I was exhausted." Alan tried to explain.
Ezekiel ran towards the exit of the hallway while informing Alan of their current situation, "Siliks have breached through the first three doors, the old man is trying his best to stop them."
In their entire settlement, the one armed man is the only one who could harness chaos energy, a Supreme, making him their only defense. Siliks have special armor-like scales that makes it impossible for normal human weapons to cause them any harm. Of course, it was not totally impossible to harm them with human weapons, it is just that one would need something as powerful as a missile, and it is not guaranteed to work as a Silik not only have extraordinary defenses, they also have amazing reflexes.
….
Alan and Ezekiel soon got to the control room of the bunker, there, all the occupants of the bunker stared at the screen monitor, staring at the single man standing between the monsters that were double his size, and them. If the one armed man could not stop the Siliks, they were as good as dead.
Taking a look at the Silik, Alan shivered in freight. Siliks stood on their two feet like humans, having a masculine build covered in scale-like skin armor. Their heads were almost like that of an Ant, with two sharp pincers in front of them. They also possess sharp powerful claws that could rip a human apart.
The one armed man stood outside the last door, staring at the creatures in front of him. He knew he could not allow them pass, taking a deep breath, he took a step forward and his image blurred, before those in front of the monitor could keep track of his movement, he was already in front of the first Silik. He punched out, sending the Silik crashing into the ones behind it. The Siliks reacted in time, dodging the Silik the one armed man sent flying.
The one armed man knew that this was not enough to stop them, so after the first attack, he moved again while the Siliks were trying to dodge their companion. Targeting one of them, he unleashed an even stronger attack, sending a wave of lights at the Silik at the moment it was mid-aird dodging its companion. The Silik could not react and was chopped into pieces.
While the one armed man was fighting with the Siliks, Alan and the others found it almost impossible to keep up with their movements. Supremes were faster and stronger than humans, this was the only reason they could keep up with the fast and strong Siliks.
The battle quickly intensified and other than bright lights and sparks, those behind the monitor could not see anything else. The fight lasted for about three to four minutes before the bright lights finally died down.
The sight in front of them sent a chill down their spines. The one armed man was grabbed by one of the Siliks, using its pincers, it cut off the head of the one armed man, before ripping his body apart.
Mary, the middle-aged woman that welcomed them screamed in horror at the sight of the one armed man's body being decapitated. The young ladies covered their mouths as their eyes turned teary while the young men were gripped by fear. Their only protector was dead.
Before going down, the one armed man managed to take down three out of the five Siliks that attacked them. However, the chances of survival for the group without him is almost zero as there was no way for them to fight back, nor were they faster than the Siliks. Siliks are also known expert trackers, so even if they escape, the Siliks could still track them down as there were no settlements close to this area.
"We must leave now! Head to the second exit." The driver of the truck immediately issued out orders as he exited the control room.
His words brought everyone back from their state of shock. The one armed man was dead, staying here was no different than a death wish.
Alan tried to get a grip of himself, but his hands shook repeatedly as the scene of the one armed man being killed played in his head over and over again. He had occasionally envisioned himself facing off against a Silik, but now, just the sight of one from the monitor terrified him. He was just a regular human, unlike the one armed man who was one of the few people regarded as Supremes. He was no match for these things.
Ezekiel noticed Alan's absentmindedness and grabbed his hand, dragging him along as they all hurried towards the second exit. Even though they knew the chances of escaping were small, there was still hope if they managed to get out of the bunker.
As they escaped in the direction of the second exit, they could hear the explosions from the attacks of the Siliks that were trying to get to them.
Other than their shockingly strong defense, a Silik can also shoot out a powerful and destructive light beam from their mouths. Their frightening speed allowed them to close the gap in a matter of seconds. Seeing the people in front of them scrambling to escape, the Siliks attacked, shooting out a stream of light beams. Screams rang out as the group dared not stop.
Of the twenty plus people in the settlement, only about fifteen managed to come out from the exit. With some being injured from the attacks of the Siliks.
The driver was the first to exit and he ran straight for the tree. There was just one truck, and it could carry at most eight people. Everyone knew this, but they all ran after the driver, no one wanted to be left behind, and knowing they are not as fast as Siliks, their only chance of even possibly outrunning it was this truck.
Boom!
Just as they were around a hundred meters away from the truck, an explosion came from where they hid thentruck, and the holographic tree hiding the truck vanished.
"Oh no."
Despair washed over everyone present.
