Chapter 159: Wanna Make Out?
Hugo sat cross-legged on the floor of Loli's dorm room, absently watching her as she droned on about the solution to the second assignment
She was talking—no, lecturing—about how to infer some clues from the question. Her voice was firm, focused, and completely uninterested in any distractions.
But Hugo? Hugo was only half listening, and that was being generous. His thoughts kept drifting back to the shocking incident an hour ago.
They had both silently agreed, without a single word, to never mention what had happened. Yet the memory still lingered like a bad pop song stuck in his head.
He leaned back against her couch, the soft and fluffy seat pressing against his back.
'Why did she freak out so much?' he wondered, staring at her as she gestured animatedly. 'Sure, I was being a little... intense. But come on, it wasn't 'that' bad.'
Hugo still couldn't quite figure it out. What could've possibly made her react like that?
He rubbed his chin, trying to piece together the mystery. 'Was it the eye contact? The smirk? Did I stand too close? Was I too charming for my own good?'
A slow grin spread across his face as he leaned against her desk. 'Yeah, that's probably it. Too much sexual aura. It's a curse.'
But then another idea crept in, one that made his smirk fade. 'Wait. Could it be... her "little secret"?'
He thought back to their very first meeting. He'd been desperate for answers during that impromptu test and had bluffed his way into getting them by leaning in close, narrowing his eyes, and saying, "I know your little secret."
The sheer panic on her face had been priceless. He'd never even bothered to figure out if she actually had a secret.
Now, though, he was starting to wonder.
"What's her deal?" he muttered under his breath, his gaze drifting to her blushing cheeks as she explained something about deadlines.
"What?" Loli stopped mid sentence, turning to him with a frown.

"Oh, nothing," he said, shrugging casually. Then, with the smoothest nonchalance he could muster, he added, "Hey, do you like women?"
Loli froze. For a split second, she looked like a deer caught in headlights. Then her face turned bright red.
"W-WHAT?!" she stammered, nearly dropping her notes. "Why would you even ask that?! Of course I l-like men!"
Hugo raised an eyebrow, fighting back a grin. "You're blushing."
"No, I'm not!" she snapped, her voice cracking. She quickly turned her back to him, furiously reorganising her papers to avoid looking at him.
Hugo leaned forward, resting his chin in his hand as he studied her reaction. 'Huh. Interesting.'
Based on her reaction, he was sure she didn't actually like women. Or maybe she was still unsure, he couldn't quite tell.
Either way, did he care?
No!
Loli cleared her throat, her voice shaky as she tried to continue where she left off. "A-As I was saying, we've already finished one of the three assignments, so if we just focus on—stop SMIRKING—focus, we can finish the other two without any—ugh, can you not look at me like that?!"
Hugo's grin widened. He couldn't help himself. Her flustered state was too amusing. "Sorry, Professor," he teased. "You're just so serious when you explain things. It's kinda scary."
"I'm not a professor!" she snapped, glaring at him over her shoulder.
"Sure, sure," he said, waving her off. His eyes wandered to the pile of papers she'd placed on her desk.
One of them was smaller, thicker, and looked... out of place. Curious, he reached over and snatched it up before she could stop him.
"Hugo!" Loli shrieked, lunging for him. "Give that back!"
Hugo held the small book—her diary, as it turned out—above his head, laughing as she tried to grab it. "What's this, huh? Your little diary? Got some juicy secrets in here?"
"Put that down right now!" she demanded, her face an alarming shade of red.
"Or what?" he teased, leaning back to keep it out of her reach.
She lunged again, but Hugo twisted his body at the last second, pulling her over him in the process.
In one swift motion, Loli ended up straddling his lap, her hands planted on his shoulders for balance.
Both of them froze.
Her eyes were wide, her breathing shallow as she realised the position she was in. Hugo, on the other hand, was having an internal victory parade.
'Oh my god. Oh my god. I'm a genius. She doesn't even know what hit her. I'm unstoppable. Smooth as silk. Hugo, you're a legend.'
Loli's voice was barely a whisper. "G-Give me the diary."
He grinned up at her, his hands still holding the book just out of her reach. "Make me."
Her blush deepened, and for a moment, it looked like she might actually faint. Hugo tilted his head, enjoying every second of her flustered state.
Then, with a casual shrug, he asked, "Wanna make out?"
The words hung in the air like a firecracker waiting to explode.
Loli's eyes widened to saucers, and before Hugo could blink, she shoved him backward with surprising strength, sending him sprawling onto the floor.
The diary tumbled out of his hands as his laughter echoed through the room.
"You're INSANE!" she yelled, her voice cracking as she scrambled to grab the diary.
"Hey, I was just asking," Hugo said, still laughing as he propped himself up on his elbows. "You didn't have to take it so personally."
He was making progress!
Loli turned her back to him, clutching the diary to her chest like it was her lifeline. "You're impossible," she muttered, her voice shaky but firm.
Hugo leaned back against the desk, his grin as wide as ever. 'Smooth as butter,' he thought, basking in his own brilliance.
