Chapter 711: Attacking the Capital [1]

"An Envoy of the Lich Court?" Nox mumbled to himself, unsure whether to call this a coincidence or something else.

Just minutes ago, they had been discussing the Lich Court, and suddenly, an envoy from that same organization appeared.

It simply didn't make sense, and he couldn't help but wonder if there was a mole in their midst.

'It can't be.' Nox shook his head. After a moment of thought, he realized this was indeed a coincidence. He shifted his gaze to the envoy, Xel'vorr, and said, "Yes, I am Nox Cromwell. Is there a problem?"

The air was tense. The elites of the Cromwell Barony stood on one side, while the strange figure—neither human nor beast—stood opposite them.

Some had already summoned their weapons, while a few kept their skills active, ready to attack.

The envoy clearly saw through this and let out a soft chuckle. "I'm not here to fight. I'm only the envoy of the Queen herself. Fighting is not my forte, so you can be at ease."

Of course, none of those present listened. If anything, their grips on their weapons only tightened.

Beside Nox, Eve remained silent, her eyes never leaving the envoy.

Xel'vorr was the personal messenger of the Queen herself. He was rarely sent out unless it was something very important. The other watchers were the ones who went out to deliver trivial messages.

Seeing that the Cromwells weren't convinced, Xel'vorr could only sigh in defeat and begin explaining.

"I'll cut to the chase and go straight to the point," he said. "The Queen wants to form an alliance with the Cromwells to reclaim the Vermilion Kingdom from the demons."

Nox narrowed his eyes. "Did you offer this deal to Imperia as well?"

"News does travel fast, huh?" the envoy mumbled, then nodded. "Yes, we did… and with our help, the people of Imperia were able to drive the demons out."

"I see," Nox muttered. "I assume you didn't help them for free, did you?"

"Hahaha, you're right… nothing comes for free," Xel'vorr replied with a light chuckle.

"Good. That's all I wanted to hear." Nox turned his back on the envoy. As he walked away, his voice echoed, "Tell your Queen that we don't need her help."

Xel'vorr's eyes flashed sharply with a trace of anger, and it seemed as if he was about to act. However, when his gaze met Eve's cold stare, he lowered his head. "Very well then, I'll report back to the Queen."

Under the watchful eyes of everyone present, he stepped inside the coffin-like construct behind him, and it disappeared.

"You made the right decision there," Nathan said.

Aina nodded. "Yes, Father-in-law is right. We can't afford to trust them… they definitely have an ulterior motive."

Nox remained quiet for a moment, then looked toward the direction of the capital. His eyes flashed with conviction as he declared, "Prepare everyone. It's time to reclaim our Kingdom."

A small smile appeared on Adrian's face. "I thought you'd never say it!"

Sometime later, everyone gathered once more in the large tent and began making plans to reclaim the eastern region, where the Vermilion Royal Capital was located.

While all this was going on, in the demonic realm, Emerald—the beautiful succubus—stood on the roof of her castle with a small smirk on her face.

Behind her was the demon lord Nox had tamed and later swapped places with in order to infiltrate the demon realm. Emerald had now made him her personal servant.

"Mistress, all the portals are now closed," the demon lord reported.

"Good." She smiled faintly. "I've done my part; now it's up to him."

Her gaze shifted toward the swirling red sky, eyes gleaming with a strange mix of amusement and anticipation.

The demon lord lowered his head respectfully. "Do you truly believe he can pull it off?"

"There's no harm in trying," Emerald chuckled softly.

The demon lord stayed silent, knowing better than to question her again.

Meanwhile, in the capital, Number Two paced back and forth, still trying to process what he had heard.

Hendrix sat across from him, watching silently from beneath his mask.

Number Two glared at the messenger who had delivered the news. "Can you repeat what you said? I might have heard wrong."

The Flaming Rose member swallowed hard. "She's allied herself with the Cromwell Barony. Reports say she even helped them evacuate the southern region to their territory."

The room went dead silent.

Number Two's fists clenched so tightly that faint cracks formed in the marble table beside him. "That traitor—"

"Careful," Hendrix interrupted, his calm voice slicing through the tension. He tilted his head, the faint smirk under his mask making it hard to tell if he was amused or warning him. "She's still stronger than you. Much stronger."

"Tch." Number Two turned away, pacing again. His thoughts were a storm. If Emerald had truly switched sides, the balance in the capital would shift—dangerously.

He stopped pacing, his eyes narrowing beneath his hood. "If she's helping them, then it means they're planning something big. We can't just sit here and wait."

He glanced at the messenger and ordered, "Send word to all units—secure and defend the four corners of the capital immediately. I want barriers set, patrols doubled, and every entrance under watch. No one gets in or out without my say."

"Yes, sir!" The Flaming Rose member replied and rushed off.

Back in the barony, it was decided that the ants, along with Nox's mountain fortress and a few dragons, would remain behind in case of emergency, while the rest of the soldiers and demonic undead would head to the capital.

Right outside the barony, the massive Sovereign Gate shimmered into existence. Nox stood to the side, watching as his forces stepped through one after another.

The demons thought they had fortified the capital, but little did they know, Nox possessed a special skill that could transport his entire army straight into the heart of it.
